Thrombolytic activity of the low-molecular-weight heparin-serotonin complex is tested in rats. Thrombi are formed in the left jugular vein. The complex, its components, or normal saline is injected in the right jugular vein 5 min after thrombosis. The complex exhibits high thrombolytic activity in comparison with the control (normal saline) and similar to that of heparin. Antithrombotic activity of the complex is higher than that of heparin, normal saline, and serotonin. Thrombolytic and antithrombotic activities of the complex may be associated with its non-enzyme fibrinolytic activity. Vagal influences on the heart were studied in narcotized cats, in which the cardiotripic effects of sympathetic nerves, heart rate, and pre- and afterload were excluded. The effect of cyclic GABA derivative TZ-146 on the content of catecholamines, serotonin, their metabolites, and neurotransmitter amino acids in rat hypothalamus and brain stem was studied by high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection. Opposite changes in the content of homovanillic acid, aspartate, glutamate, and glycine in the examined structures were accompanied by inhibition of dopamine metabolism. Possible participation of cerebral glutamatergic system in the effect of TZ-146 is discussed. Exogenous ceruloplasmin is shown to increase the resistance of mice to influenza virus, reduce the immunodepressive effect of the virus, and improve the biochemical parameters in the acute period of experimental infection. A possible positive effect of ceruloplasmin on delayed complications of influenza is discussed. The antihypoxic activity of the heparin-serotonin complex was studied under conditions of acute hypobaric hypoxia. Rats were given an intraperitoneal injection of the complex in a dose of 300 μg/kg and “lifted” on a height of 12,000 m. In these rats, the intervals before the posture loss and the second agonal inhalation were 9.6- and 8.8-fold as long as those in control rats. The survival of the complex-treated rats was 90%, 70% in rats injected with heparin or serotonin, and 50% in the control group. Administration of neurotensin against the background of sinus arrhythmia caused by burst stimulation of the vagus nerve in cats restores synchronization of the cardiac and vagal rhythms or modulates the proportion between them. Antifibrillatory effect of methacizin under conditions of neurogenic atrial fibrillation in cats was due to its vagolytic rather than cardiotropic activity. The immediate antifibrillatory effect of methacizin surpassed that of its components (ethacizin and ethmozin). Effects of selective transection of the gastric, celiac, and hepatic branches of the vagus nerve on expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone mRNA in small cell neurons of the hypothalamic paraventricular nuclei in rats administered with bacterial lipopolysaccharide were studied usingin situ hybridization technique. Low doses of lipopolysaccharide stimulated expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone mRNA in rats subjected to axotomy of the gastric or celiac branches of the vagus nerve, but did not change the intensity of autoradiographic labeling in animals with transected hepatic branches. High doses of lipopolysaccharide enhanced expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone mRNA in vagotomized rats of all groups, which indicated the existence of a vagus-independent mechanism responsible for activation of paraventricular neurons mediating the effect of this hormone. The data suggest that the inflammation-dependent activation of stress-regulating neurons in the hypothalamus is controlled by several mechanisms, whose activation depends on the severity of inflammatory processes. The alternative and graduated methods for estimation of fast-reversible effects of ethanol are compared. Estimation of the myorelaxing and anticonvulsive effects of ethanol by the alternative method can be used with some limitations for the effector analysis of ethanol pharmacokinetics. It is shown that the effector expectation of pharmacokinetic profile for ethanol based on the minimal effective doses of bicuculline inducing clonic convulsions and tonic extension is comparable to experimentally determined brain contents of14C-ethanol. Rosette formation is shown to be stimulated by administration of the same antigen dose in several injections at short intervals. The effect of fractionated administration of the antigen is mainly due to T lymphocytes, is selectively directed to antigen-binding structures containing disulfide groups, and is realized via the vagus nerve.
