Pustulo-vesicular skin eruption in a child with probable Kawasaki disease

We report the association of painful pustulo-vesicular skin rash with Kawasaki disease. The initial clinical presentation of our patient mimicked chickenpox infection, and the diagnosis was based on the characteristic clinicopathological features and the exclusion of other causes of pustulo-vesicular eruption.     

Early congenital syphilis presenting with skin eruption alone: a case report

Congenital syphilis is one of the most well-known congenital infections, yet it remains a worldwide public health problem. Congenital syphilis can involve any organ system and present with various symptoms. However, early diagnosis of congenital syphilis is difficult because more than half of the affected infants are asymptomatic, and the signs in symptomatic infants may be subtle and nonspecific. Here, we report a case of congenital syphilis with only a skin rash, which led to a delay in diagnosis. This case indicates that congenital syphilis should be considered throughout early childhood.     

Changes in skin blood flow over the foot with warming of the contralateral heel

Vasospasm in one leg is a common complication of umbilical artery catheterization in preterm infants. It is a common practice to wrap the contralateral leg in a warm washcloth. The rationale for this intervention is to induce reflex vasodilatation of the affected extremity, thereby avoiding the necessity to remove or replace the catheter. This study tested the hypothesis that heating the contralateral extremity in preterm infants would increase peripheral blood flow to the contralateral foot. Ten stable preterm infants who had had no umbilical catheter inserted for at least 2 weeks were studied. Skin perfusion was measured using the laser Doppler method in the distal leg after heating of the opposite foot to 40.5°C. Blood flow to the skin of the contralateral foot was measured before and after warming the ipsilateral one. The skin blood flow measured with and without heat application to the contralateral foot was not significantly different. Direct heat does not induce contralateral reflex vasodilatation in the foot of preterm infants.     

Update on club foot

This review outlines the present classification, aetiology, diagnosis and assessment of Club foot (CTEV foot). It also updates the changes that have occurred with regard the management emphasizing the shift away from routine surgical treatment to the serial casting techniques popularized by Ponseti and reasons for this change.     

Polymorphic light eruption in childhood

The purpose of this article is to acquaint the pediatrician with polymorphic light eruption (PMLE) a light-induced, eczematous, cutaneous reaction that frequently begins in childhood. This sun-induced eruption is frequently misdiagnosed because of its similarity to atopic dermatitis.     

Psoriatic eruption in Kawasaki disease

We describe 10 patients who developed a psoriatic skin eruption during either the acute or convalescent phase of Kawasaki disease. The skin eruption was pustular in 3 patients, but more typical psoriasiform skin lesions were seen in the remaining 7 patients. No patient has yet developed chronic psoriasis.
