The atomic structure of antiphase boundaries in Sr-doped lanthanum scandate (La1−xSrxScO3−δ) perovskite, promising as the proton conductor, was modelled by means of DFT method. Two structural types of interfaces formed by structural octahedral coupling were constructed: edge- and face-shared. The energetic stability of these two interfaces was investigated. The mechanisms of oxygen vacancy formation and migration in both types of interfaces were modelled. It was shown that both interfaces are structurally stable and facilitate oxygen ionic migration. Oxygen vacancy formation energy in interfaces is lower than that in the regular structure, which favours the oxygen vacancy segregation within such interfaces. The calculated energy profile suggests that both types of interfaces are advantageous for oxygen ion migration in the material.  相似文献

This paper discusses several works on supramolecular systems such as monolayer and multilayer, polymer films of various crown-containing dyes, surface-active monomers and polymers. Design, production and investigation of the membrane nanostructures based on crown ethers is a rapidly developing field at the “junction” of materials sciences and nanotechnology. These nanostructures can serve as convenient models for studying the self-organization and molecular recognition processes at interfaces that are typical for biomembranes. Based on the results obtained for such structures by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, atomic force and Brewster-angle microscopy, surface pressure and surface potential isotherm measurements, the possibility of developing micro- and nanomaterials possessing a set of specified properties (including chemosensor, photochromic and photorefractive materials) is demonstrated.  相似文献

Understanding the mechanisms of deformation and fracture of metastable β titanium alloys is of great significance for improving formability and service life. By combining the in-situ tensile test, TEM characterization and EBSD analysis, the tensile deformation behavior, activation of slip systems, crack initiation, and propagation of a high strength metastable β titanium alloy (Ti-5Cr-4Al-4Zr-3Mo-2W-0.8Fe) with equiaxed microstructure are investigated. The equiaxed microstructure is composed of primary α (αp) phase, transformed β (βt) matrix phase, and secondary α (αs) phase. In contrast to the hexagonal αp grain with limited slip systems, the body-centered βt matrix has more slip systems, however the hindering effect of αs phases on dislocation slip leads to the different deformability of the αp phase and βt matrix. The equiaxed αp grains are more prone to deformation and rotation to coordinate the overall deformation. The shear band leads to the formation of sub-grain boundary and even the fragmentation of αp grains. As a result, the microvoids tend to nucleate at the grain boundary, phase interface, slip band, and shear band. The inhomogeneous deformation in the plastic deformation zone around the crack tip is the primary cause of damage. The crack propagation caused by microvoids coalescence advances along the grain boundaries and phase interfaces in the form of intergranular, and along the activated slip systems and shear bands in the form of transgranular. Pinpointing the situation in the equiaxed microstructure and combining that in other typical microstructures will help to summarize the universal deformation and fracture mechanisms of metastable β titanium alloy, and provide a basis for alloy design and microstructure tailoring.  相似文献

Molybdenum (Mo), which is one among the refractory metals, is a promising material with a wide variety of technological applications in microelectronics, optoelectronics, and energy conversion and storage. However, understanding the structure–property correlation and optimization at the nanoscale dimension is quite important to meet the requirements of the emerging nanoelectronics and nanophotonics. In this context, we focused our efforts to derive a comprehensive understanding of the nanoscale structure, phase, and electronic properties of nanocrystalline Mo films with variable microstructure and grain size. Molybdenum films were deposited under varying temperature (25–500 °C), which resulted in Mo films with variable grain size of 9–22 nm. The grazing incidence X-ray diffraction analyses indicate the (110) preferred growth behavior the Mo films, though there is a marked decrease in hardness and elastic modulus values. In particular, there is a sizable difference in maximum and minimum elastic modulus values; the elastic modulus decreased from ~460 to 260–280 GPa with increasing substrate temperature from 25–500 °C. The plasticity index and wear resistance index values show a dramatic change with substrate temperature and grain size. Additionally, the optical properties of the nanocrystalline Mo films evaluated by spectroscopic ellipsometry indicate a marked dependence on the growth temperature and grain size. This dependence on grain size variation was particularly notable for the refractive index where Mo films with lower grain size fell in a range between ~2.75–3.75 across the measured wavelength as opposed to the range of 1.5–2.5 for samples deposited at temperatures of 400–500 °C, where the grain size is relatively higher. The conductive atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies indicate a direct correlation with grain size variation and grain versus grain boundary conduction; the trend noted was improved electrical conductivity of the Mo films in correlation with increasing grain size. The combined ellipsometry and conductive AFM studies allowed us to optimize the structure–property correlation in nanocrystalline Mo films for application in electronics and optoelectronics.  相似文献

Macroporous and hierarchically macro/mesoporous materials (mostly monoliths and microspheres) have attracted much attention for a variety of applications, such as supporting or enabling materials in chromatography, energy storage and conversion, catalysis, biomedical devices, drug delivery systems, and environmental remediation. A well-succeeded method to obtain these tailored porous materials relies on the sol-gel technique, combined with phase separation by spinodal decomposition, and involves as well emulsification as a soft template, in the case of the synthesis of porous microspheres. Significant advancements have been witnessed, in terms of synthesis methodologies optimized either for the use of alkoxides or metal–salts and material design, including the grafting or immobilization of a specific species (or nanoparticles) to enable the most recent trends in technological applications, such as photocatalysis. In this context, the evolution, in terms of material composition and synthesis strategies, is discussed in a concerted fashion in this review, with the goal of inspiring new improvements and breakthroughs in the framework of porous materials.  相似文献

The choice of suitable inoculants in the grain refinement process and subsequent enhancement of the characteristics of the composites developed is an important materials research topic, having wide scope. In this regard, the present work is aimed at finding the appropriate composition and size of fly ash as inoculants for grain refinement of the aluminum AA 5083 composites. Fly ash particles, which are by products of the combustion process in thermal power plants, contributing to the large-scale pollution and landfills can be effectively utilized as inoculants and interatomic lubricants in the composite matrix–reinforcement subspaces synthesized in the inert atmosphere using ultrasonic assisted stir casting setup. Thus, the work involves the study of the influence of percentage and size of the fly ash dispersions on the tensile and impact strength characteristics of the aluminum AA 5083/7.5SiC composites. The C type of fly ash with the particle size in the series of 40–75 µm, 76–100 µm, and 101–125 µm and weight % in the series of 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 are selected for the work. The influence of fly ash as distinct material inoculants for the grain refinement has worked out well with the increase in the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and impact strength of the composites, with the fly ash as material inoculants up to 2 wt. % beyond which the tensile and impact characteristics decrease due to the micro coring and segregation. This is evident from the microstructural observations for the composite specimens. Moreover, the role of fly ash as material inoculants is distinctly identified with the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) for the phase and grain growth epitaxy and the Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) for analyzing the characteristic X-Rays of the fly ash particles as inoculant agents in the energy spectrum.  相似文献

The partitioning and diffusion of solute elements in hot rolling and the effect of the partitioning and diffusion on the ferrite-bainite banding formation after hot rolling in the 20CrMnTi steel were experimentally examined by EPMA (electron probe microanalysis) technology and simulated by DICTRTA and MATLAB software. The austenite grain size related to the hot rolling process and the effect of austenite grain size on the ferrite-bainite banding formation were studied. The results show that experimental steel without banding has the most uniform hardness distribution, which is taken from the edge of the cast slab and 1/4 diameter position of the cast slab, heating at 1100 °C for 2 h and above 1200 °C for 2–4 h during the hot rolling, respectively. Cr, Mn, and Si diffuse and inhomogeneously concentrate in austenite during hot rolling, while C homogeneously concentrates in austenite. After the same hot rolling process, ΔAe3 increases and ferrite-bainite banding intensifies with increasing initial segregation width and segregation coefficient K of solute elements. Under the same initial segregation of solute elements, ΔAe3 drops and ferrite-bainite banding reduces with increasing heating temperature and extension heating time. When ΔAe3 drops below 14 °C, ferrite-bainite banding even disappears. What is more, the austenite grain size increases with increasing heating temperature and extension heating time. When the austenite grain size is above 21 μm, the experimental steel will not appear to have a banded structure after hot rolling.  相似文献

Accurate measurement of interfacial properties is critical any time two materials are bonded—in composites, tooth crowns, or when biomaterials are attached to the human body. Yet, in spite of this importance, reliable methods to measure interfacial properties between dissimilar materials remain elusive. Here we present an experimental approach to quantify the interfacial fracture energy Γi that also provides unique mechanistic insight into the interfacial debonding mechanism at the nanoscale. This approach involves deposition of an additional chromium layer (superlayer) onto a bonded system, where interface debonding is initiated by the residual tensile stress in the superlayer, and where the interface can be separated in a controlled manner and captured in situ. Contrary to earlier methods, our approach allows the entire bonded system to remain in an elastic range during the debonding process, such that Γi can be measured accurately. We validate the method by showing that moisture has a degrading effect on the bonding between epoxy and silica, a technologically important interface. Combining in situ through scanning electron microscope images with molecular simulation, we find that the interfacial debonding mechanism is hierarchical in nature, which is initiated by the detachment of polymer chains, and that the three-dimensional covalent network of the epoxy-based polymer may directly influence water accumulation, leading to the reduction of Γi under presence of moisture. The results may enable us to design more durable concrete composites that could be used to innovate transportation systems, create more durable buildings and bridges, and build resilient infrastructure.Interfaces exist whenever materials are bonded together and can be found frequently in both natural and synthetic bonded systems, for instance, the mineral–protein interfaces in animals, interfaces between different phases in composite materials, the enamel–polymer interfaces involved in dental treatment, or the cell–substrate interfaces in biomedical applications (17). The integrity of the interface under various environmental conditions—including different temperature and moisture levels—is critical to many applications (810). Meanwhile, because of the advancement and development in technology, a large number of bonded systems in various engineering applications are needed, possessing increasingly higher accuracy in design and manufacturing process in a very small length scale. However, currently, a robust and generally applicable methodology to quantify the fracture energy at these interfaces from a microscopic perspective is lacking.Several straightforward measurement methods for quantifying the interfacial fracture energy on large specimens, such as direct peel/shear specimen (11, 12), Brazilian disk specimen (13), and sandwiched beam specimen (14, 15), have been reported. However, it has been difficult to directly measure this parameter for microscale specimens, such as thin film systems. This is because significant errors in measurement may result from using the above methods due to the complex elastic/plastic stress fields involved. In particular, the applied force on the thin layer during experimentation creates significant plasticity in the vicinity of the crack tip. Here, we introduce an approach called superlayer test in which direct debonding due to the externally applied driving force (in the form of residual tensile effect) with high fidelity can be achieved. This approach involves the use of high residual stress generated during the deposition of metallic materials, which leads to a steady-state loading on a thin film system at the mode mixities relevant to thin film and substrate. For typical thin films (h < 1 μm) and representative residual stresses (σR ∼ 100 MPa), the induced energy release rate is generally below the interface fracture energy of bonded systems with dimensions of practical interest. Thus, a procedure that substantially increases the steady-state energy release rate, Gss, is required. Such a procedure involves the deposition of a metallic layer, called the superlayer, that increases the effective film thickness and also elevates the residual stress. The superlayer should be selected in accordance with the following four characteristics: (i) the deposition can be conducted at ambient temperature, (ii) the superlayer should not react with the existing film, (iii) it should have good adhesion, and (iv) the superlayers can be subjected to a large residual tension upon deposition. Chromium (Cr) film, deposited by electron beam evaporation, meets all four criteria (16). The superlayer test should ultimately allow a robust characterization of interface fracture energy and monitoring scheme of the debonding process while the thickness of the superlayer is increasing. This technique was originated by Bagchi et al. (17), and here we successfully extend its applicability to construction-related material systems. This paper addresses interface applications found primarily in construction materials, including advanced composite materials consisting of organic (e.g., epoxy, fibers, matrix) and inorganic (e.g., brick, concrete, masonry) components with interfacial fracture energy below 50 J/m2 as encountered in such material systems.  相似文献

The conventional method of preparing metal–ceramic composite structures causes delamination and cracking defects due to differences in the composite structures’ properties, such as the coefficient of thermal expansion between metal and ceramic materials. Laser-directed energy deposition (LDED) technology has a unique advantage in that the composition of the materials can be changed during the forming process. This technique can overcome existing problems by forming composite structures. In this study, a multilayer composite structure was prepared using LDED technology, and different materials were deposited with their own appropriate process parameters. A layer of Al2O3 ceramic was deposited first, and then three layers of a NbMoTa multi-principal element alloy (MPEA) were deposited as a single composite structural unit. A specimen of the NbMoTa–Al2O3 multilayer composite structure, composed of multiple composite structural units, was formed on the upper surface of a φ20 mm × 60 mm cylinder. The wear resistance was improved by 55% compared to the NbMoTa. The resistivity was 1.55 × 10−5 Ω × m in the parallel forming direction and 1.29 × 10−7 Ω × m in the vertical forming direction. A new, electrically anisotropic material was successfully obtained, and this study provides experimental methods and data for the preparation of smart materials and new sensors.  相似文献

The high strain rate deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of in situ TiB2 particle reinforced Al-Zn-Mg-Cu composite were investigated by means of Taylor impact. The dynamic tests were performed at three different impact velocities. Under three different velocities, no obvious shear failure occurred in the composite, indicating a good impact resistance. Compared to the quasi-static compression test, the dynamic yield strength increased obviously with the rise of velocity, even more than 1 GPa. The dislocation multiplication, phonon drag effect and ceramic reinforcement increased the flow stress of composite. Fine, equiaxed grain structure developed after impact, resulting from grain fragmentation or dynamic recrystallization. Finite element simulation of Taylor impact was qualitatively in agreement with the experiments, which was useful to elucidate the formation of equiaxed grain structure.  相似文献

With the multiplication of electronic devices in our daily life, there is a need for tailored wideband electromagnetic (EM) absorbers that could be conformed on any type of surface-like antennas for interference attenuation or military vehicles for stealth applications. In this study, a wideband flexible flat electromagnetic absorber compatible with additive manufacturing has been studied in the X-Ku frequency bands. A multilayer structure has been optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA), adapting the restrictions of additive manufacturing and exploiting the EM properties of loaded and non-loaded filaments, of which the elaboration is described. After optimization, a bi-material multilayer absorber with a thickness of 4.1 mm has been designed to provide a reflectivity below −12 dB between 8 and 18 GHz. Finally, the designed multilayer structure was 3D-printed and measured in an anechoic chamber, achieving −11.8 dB between 7 and 18 GHz. Thus, the development of dedicated materials has demonstrated the strong potential of additive technologies for the manufacturing of thin wideband flexible EM absorbers.  相似文献

This study investigates the very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) behavior at elevated temperature (650 °C) of the Inconel 718 alloy fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM). The results are compared with those of the wrought alloy. Large columnar grain with a cellular structure in the grain interior and Laves/δ phases precipitated along the grain boundaries were exhibited in the SLM alloy, while fine equiaxed grains were present in the wrought alloy. The elevated temperature had a minor effect on the fatigue resistance in the regime below 108 cycles for the SLM alloy but significantly reduced the fatigue strength in the VHCF regime above 108 cycles. Both the SLM and wrought specimens exhibited similar fatigue resistance in the fatigue life regime of fewer than 107–108 cycles at elevated temperature, and the surface initiation mechanism was dominant in both alloys. In a VHCF regime above 107–108 cycles at elevated temperature, the wrought material exhibited slightly better fatigue resistance than the SLM alloy. All fatigue cracks are initiated from the internal defects or the microstructure discontinuities. The precipitation of Laves and δ phases is examined after fatigue tests at high temperatures, and the effect of microstructure on the formation and the propagation of the microstructural small cracks is also discussed.  相似文献

The global demand for fiber-based products is continuously increasing. The increased consumption and fast fashion current in the global clothing market generate a significant quantity of pre-and post-production waste that ends up in landfills and incinerators. The present study aims to obtain a new waste-based composite material panel for construction applications with improved mechanical properties that can replace traditional wood-based oriented strand boards (OSB). The new composite material is formed by using textile wastes as a reinforcement structure and a combination of bi-oriented polypropylene films (BOPP) waste, polypropylene non-woven materials (TNT) waste and virgin polypropylene fibers (PP) as a matrix. The mechanical properties of waste-based composite materials are modeled using the Taguchi method based on orthogonal arrays to maximize the composite characteristics’ mechanical properties. Experimental data validated the theoretical results obtained.  相似文献

Polymers have an excellent effect in terms of moderating fast neutrons with rich hydrogen and carbon, which plays an indispensable role in shielding devices. As the shielding of neutrons is typically accompanied by the generation of γ-rays, shielding materials are developed from monomers to multi-component composites, multi-layer structures, and even complex structures. In this paper, based on the typical multilayer structure, the integrated design of the shield component structure and the preparation and performance evaluation of the materials is carried out based on the design sample of the heat-resistant lightweight polymer-based interlayer. Through calculation, the component structure of the polymer-based materials and the three-layer thickness of the shield are obtained. The mass fraction of boron carbide accounts for 11% of the polymer-based material. Since the polymer-based material is the weak link of heat resistance of the multilayer shield, in terms of material selection and modification, the B4C/TiO2/polyimide molded plate was prepared by the hot-pressing method, and characterization analysis was conducted for its structure and properties. The results show that the ball milling method can mix the materials well and realize the uniform dispersion of B4C and TiO2 in the polyimide matrices. Boron carbide particles are evenly distributed in the material. Except for Ti, the other elemental content of the selected areas for mapping is in good agreement with the theoretical values of the elemental content of the system. The prepared B4C/TiO2/polyimide molded plate presents excellent thermal properties, and its glass transition temperature and initial thermal decomposition temperature are as high as 363.6 °C and 572.8 °C, respectively. In addition, the molded plate has good toughness performs well in compression resistance, shock resistance, and thermal aging resistance, which allows it to be used for a long time under 300 °C. Finally, the prepared materials are tested experimentally on an americium beryllium neutron source. The experimental results match the simulation results well.  相似文献

Studying the interactions between biomolecules and material interfaces play a crucial role in the designing and synthesizing of functional bionanomaterials with tailored structure and function. Previously, a lot of studies were performed on the self-assembly of peptides in solution through internal and external stimulations, which mediated the creation of peptide nanostructures from zero-dimension to three-dimension. In this study, we demonstrate the self-assembly behavior of the GNNQQNY peptide on the surface of mica and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite through tailoring the self-assembly conditions. Various factors, such as the type of dissolvent, peptide concentration, pH value, and evaporation period on the formation of peptide nanofibers and nanoribbons with single- and bi-directional arrays are investigated. It is found that the creation of peptide nanoribbons on both mica and HOPG can be achieved effectively through adjusting and optimizing the experimental parameters. Based on the obtained results, the self-assembly and formation mechanisms of peptide nanoribbons on both material interfaces are discussed. It is expected that the findings obtained in this study will inspire the design of motif-specific peptides with high binding affinity towards materials and mediate the green synthesis of peptide-based bionanomaterials with unique function and application potential.  相似文献

Large-river delta-front estuaries (LDE) are important interfaces between continents and the oceans for material fluxes that have a global impact on marine biogeochemistry. In this article, we propose that more emphasis should be placed on LDE in future global climate change research. We will use some of the most anthropogenically altered LDE systems in the world, the Mississippi/Atchafalaya River and the Chinese rivers that enter the Yellow Sea (e.g., Huanghe and Changjiang) as case-studies, to posit that these systems are both “drivers” and “recorders” of natural and anthropogenic environmental change. Specifically, the processes in the LDE can influence (“drive”) the flux of particulate and dissolved materials from the continents to the global ocean that can have profound impact on issues such as coastal eutrophication and the development of hypoxic zones. LDE also record in their rapidly accumulating subaerial and subaqueous deltaic sediment deposits environmental changes such as continental-scale trends in climate and land-use in watersheds, frequency and magnitude of cyclonic storms, and sea-level change. The processes that control the transport and transformation of carbon in the active LDE and in the deltaic sediment deposit are also essential to our understanding of carbon sequestration and exchange with the world ocean—an important objective in global change research. U.S. efforts in global change science including the vital role of deltaic systems are emphasized in the North American Carbon Plan (www.carboncyclescience.gov).  相似文献

An austenite-ferrite duplex low-density steel (Fe–12Mn–7Al–0.2C–0.6Si, wt%) was designed and fabricated by cold rolling and annealing at different temperatures. The tensile properties, microstructure evolution, deformation mechanism and stacking fault energy (SFE) of the steel were systemically investigated at ambient temperature. Results show two phases of fine equiaxed austenite and coarse band-like δ-ferrite in the microstructure of the steel. With increasing annealing temperature, the yield and tensile strengths decrease while the total elongation increases. At initial strains, the deformation is mainly concentrated in the fine austenite and grain boundaries of the coarse δ-ferrite, and the interior of the coarse δ-ferrite gradually deforms with further increase in the strain to 0.3. No twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) or transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) occurred during the tensile deformation. Considering element segregation and two-phase proportion, the chemical composition of austenite was measured more precisely. The SFE of the austenite is 39.7 mJ/m2, and the critical stress required to produce deformation twins is significantly higher than the maximum flow stress of the steel.  相似文献

Marine noise pollution generated by propellers is of wide concern. Traditional propeller materials (nickel–aluminum bronze (NAB) alloys) can no longer meet the requirements for reducing shaft vibration. However, the Mn–Cu alloy developed to solve the problem of propeller vibration is affected by seawater corrosion, which greatly limits the application of the alloy in the field of marine materials. In this study, the M2052–NAB gradient alloy was developed for the first time using LENS technology to improve the corrosion resistance while retaining the damping properties of the M2052 alloy. We hope this alloy can provide a material research basis for the development of low-noise propellers. This study shows that, after solution-aging of M2052 alloy as the matrix, the martensitic transformation temperature increased to approach the antiferromagnetic transformation temperature, which promoted twinning and martensitic transformation. The aging process also eliminated dendrite segregation, promoted the equiaxed γ-MnCu phase, and increased the crystal size to reduce the number of dislocations, resulting in obvious modulus softening of the alloy. NAB after deposition had higher hardness and good corrosion resistance than the as-cast alloy, which offers good corrosion protection for the M2052 alloy. This research provides new material options for the field of shipbuilding.  相似文献

In this paper, a lead–bronze/steel bimetal composite was produced by vacuum diffusion welding technology. The microstructure, hardness and tribological properties under the dry sliding condition of the bimetal structured material were investigated and compared with two reference samples, i.e., lead–bronze and Mn/Si–brass. The wear mechanism of the three materials was also analyzed in detail. It was found that the bimetallic structure possessed the best wear resistance among the three samples. When paired with the ball bearing steel, the wear rates of the lead–bronze and Mn/Si–brass were 13 and 54 times higher than that of the bimetal composite. When paired with bearing steel, the wear rates of the two materials were 13 and 54 times higher than the bimetallic composite, respectively. This is because the steel layer served as a bearing layer to decrease the plastic deformation of the bronze layer. Furthermore, the lead can accelerate the formation of a dense hardened layer at the sliding interfaces to avoid subsequent wear of the bronze surface. Nevertheless, this hardened layer caused severe scuffing on the steel balls. Therefore, lead–bronze/steel structured material is recommended to match with hard counterface material, such as cemented carbide.  相似文献

Ultrasonic fatigue tests of TC4 titanium alloy equiaxed I, II and bimodal I, II obtained by different forging processes were carried out in the range from 105 to 109 cycles using 20 kHz three-point bending. The results showed that the S-N curves had different shapes, there was no traditional fatigue limit, and the bimodal I had the best comprehensive fatigue performance. The fracture morphology was analyzed by SEM, and it was found that the fatigue cracks originated from the surface or subsurface facets, showing a transgranular quasi-cleavage fracture mechanism. EDS analysis showed that the facets were formed by the cleavage of primary α grains, and the fatigue cracks originated from the primary α grain preferred textures, rather than the primary α grain clusters. From the microstructure perspective, the reasons for better equiaxed high-cycle-fatigue properties and better bimodal ultra-high-cycle-fatigue properties were analyzed. The bimodal I fatigue life prediction based on energy was also completed, and the prediction curve was basically consistent with the experimental data.  相似文献
