This article describes the evaluation of the Neuroscience Nurse Internship Program (NNIP). The NNIP was initiated in 1988 by the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center to meet the demand for highly skilled nurses to care for persons with nervous system disorders. To determine whether the program was meeting its goals, an evaluation component was incorporated into the program. The evaluation process was based on the RSA Model of Continuing Education for nursing. The RSA model consists of four basic components, three of which were included in the assessment of the NNIP--process, content, and outcome. The evaluation revealed that the nurse-interns were satisfied with the lectures and clinical content of the program. Moreover, the nurse-interns improved their knowledge of neuroscience nursing and their confidence in performing neuroscience nursing skills. Information from the evaluation was used to modify the structure of the program and to refine lecture content and clinical requirements.  相似文献

A case of Turcot's syndrome is described in an 8-year-old girl. Turcot's syndrome is a rare hereditary disease in which malignant glioma of the central nervous system is associated with colonic polyposis. The patient initially presented with a left parietal glioblastoma diagnosed by computed tomography (CT), and was subsequently found to have nonfamilial colonic polyposis.  相似文献

The first decade of the millennium has seen a fundamental shift in global sufficiency. In many developing countries the major challenge remains the need to collect sufficient, safe blood from volunteer non-remunerated blood donors to support developing health care needs. However, in the developed world the current challenges faced by blood services are more complex and constantly changing. This article will explore the impact of these challenges and consider the implications for blood services in the next decade in donor management and recruitment.The authors discuss the major strategic challenges of:
  • •
    maintaining an adequate donor base with the correct blood group mix;
  • •
    intelligent inventory control;
  • •
    improving efficiency in the face of the current global economic climate;
  • •
    redesigning the donor experience;The paper discusses donor recruitment and retention strategies and provides case studies from the SNBTS marketing strategy. The paper discusses options to rethink the traditional supply and demand models.In conclusion, consider the potential challenges and opportunities of the next decade, considering:
  • •
    demographic changes and influences;
  • •
    impact of new technologies;
  • •
    demand trends;
  • •
    donor expectation;
