For the investigation of fatigue damage behavior of textile reinforced concrete (TRC)-strengthened RC beams, in this study, eight RC beams were fabricated, and five of them were strengthened with TRC and tested under fatigue loading until failure, using a four-point bending setup. Research parameters included reinforcement ratio, textile ratio, and strengthening methods (single-side and U-wrapped). The failure mode, fatigue life, fatigue deformation, and other properties of TRC-strengthened beams were analyzed. Experimental results revealed that there were two fatigue failure modes for TRC-strengthened RC beams. In the first mode, the textile was snapped, but the steel bars did not rupture. In the second mode, both the textile and steel bars broke. Fatigue failure modes depended on the textile ratio. The TRC-strengthened beam’s fatigue life was significantly higher than the non-strengthened RC beam. At the same textile ratio, the TRC-strengthened beam’s fatigue life using the single-side method was longer than that using the U-wrapped method. With the increase in fatigue loading time, the midspan deflection of the TRC-strengthened beam was developed in three stages, namely rapid development stage, stable development stage, and destabilized development stage. The residual deflection and strain damage accumulation of tensile steel bars of TRC-strengthened beams were significantly reduced with the increase in textile or reinforcement ratios; thus, the beam’s fatigue life was prolonged. 相似文献

The hybrid retrofit system using FRP and concrete overlay applied on the top of slabs has proven effective in strengthening and overcoming logistical constraints, compared with conventional strengthening techniques using externally bonded composite materials to the underside of the slabs. Nevertheless, the performance of retrofitted slabs is governed by debonding failure due to the low bond strength between CFRP and concrete overlay. Thus, this study investigates the behavior of flexural strengthened slabs with FRP retrofit systems and the effect of bond–slip laws on debonding failure. Firstly, two full-scale RC slabs with and without a retrofit system were tested in a four-point bending setup as the control specimens. Then, the same retrofitted slab was simulated by utilizing the commercial program ABAQUS. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to consider the influence of bond–slip laws to predict the failure mechanism of the retrofitted slabs based on load–deflection relationships. The results showed that the strengthened slab enhanced the load-carrying capacity by 59%, stiffness by 111%, and toughness by 29%. The initial stiffness of 0.1K0 and maximum shear stress of 0.13τmax, compared with the corresponding values of Neubauer’s and Rostasy’s bond–slip law, can be used to simulate the global response of the retrofitted slab validated by experiment results. 相似文献

From the perspective of damage mechanics, the damage parameters were introduced as the characterizing quantity of the decrease in the mechanical properties of powder superalloy material FGH96 under fatigue loading. By deriving a damage evolution equation, a fatigue life prediction model of powder superalloy containing inclusions was constructed based on damage mechanics. The specimens containing elliptical subsurface inclusions and semielliptical surface inclusions were considered. The CONTA172 and TARGE169 elements of finite element software (ANSYS) were used to simulate the interfacial debonding between the inclusions and matrix, and the interface crack initiation life was calculated. Through finite element modeling, the stress field evolution during the interface debonding was traced by simulation. Finally, the effect of the position and shape size of inclusions on interface debonding was explored. 相似文献

The development of fatigue damage in reinforced concrete (RC) beams is affected by various factors such as repetitive loads and material properties, and there exists a complex nonlinear mapping relationship between their fatigue performance and each factor. To this end, a fatigue performance prediction model for RC beams was proposed based on the deep belief network (DBN) optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO). The original database of fatigue loading tests was established by conducting fatigue loading tests on RC beams. The mid-span deflection, reinforcement strain, and concrete strain during fatigue loading of RC beams were predicted and evaluated. The fatigue performance prediction results of the RC beam based on the PSO-DBN model were compared with those of the single DBN model and the BP model. The models were evaluated using the R2 coefficient, mean absolute percentage error, mean absolute error, and root mean square error. The results showed that the fatigue performance prediction model of RC beams based on PSO-DBN is more accurate and efficient. 相似文献

It is essential to make openings in structural concrete elements to accommodate mechanical and electrical needs. To study the effect of these openings on the performance of reinforced concrete (RC) elements, a numerical investigation was performed and validated using previous experimental work. The effect of the position and dimension of the opening and the beam length on the response of the beams, loads capacities, and failure modes was studied. The simulated RC beams showed different responses, loads capacities, and failure modes depending on the position and dimension of the opening. The transversal near support opening (TNSH) and longitudinal holes (LH) showed lower effects on the load capacities of the beams than the transversal near center opening (TNCH). The supreme reduction percentages of the load capacity (µu%) for beams with TNCH and TNSH were 37.21% and 30.34%, respectively (opening size = 150 × 150 mm2). In addition, the maximum µu% for beam with LH was 17.82% (opening size = 25% of the beam size). The TNSH with a width of less than 18.18% of the beam shear span (550 mm) had trivial effects on the beam’s load capacities (the maximum µu% = 1.26%). Although the beams with combined LH and TNCH or LH and TNSH showed different failure modes, they experienced nearly the same load reductions. Moreover, the length of the beam (solid or hollow) had a great effect on its failure mode and load capacity. Finally, equations were proposed and validated to calculate the yield load and post-cracking deflection for the concrete beams with a longitudinal opening. 相似文献

The present study explored the degradation law and service life prediction of tunnel lining concrete with different mineral admixtures under coupled actions of sulfate attack (SA) and drying–wetting (DW) cycles. The deterioration resistance coefficient (DRC) of compressive strength and influence coefficients of sulfate concentration, mineral admixture content, water/binder (w/b) ratio, and curing regime on DRC were studied. After that, a new service life prediction model based on damage mechanics was developed and analyzed. Results show that, by increasing the DW cycles, the DRC first increases and then decreases. DRCs of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), fly ash (FA), and ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) concrete linearly decrease with the increase of sulfate concentration, while the silica fume (SF) concrete displays a two-stage process; by increasing the admixture content, the DRCs of FA and GGBS concrete exhibit two distinct stages, while the SF concrete depicts a three-stage process; increasing the w/b ratio linearly decreases the DRC; the DRC of curing regime was sequenced as standard curing (SC) > fog curing (FC) > water curing (WC) > same condition curing (SCC). Based on the experimental results, the service life prediction model is applied and validated. The validation results show that the proposed model can accurately predict the lifetime of concrete with different mix proportions. Furthermore, it is found that the mineral admixture can effectively improve the lifetime of concrete, and the composite mineral admixture is more effective than a single mineral admixture in improving the lifetime of concrete. 相似文献

Structural systems developed from novel materials that are more durable and less prone to maintenance during the service lifetime are in great demand. Due to many advantages such as being lightweight as well as having high strength, corrosion resistance, and durability, the sandwich composites structures, in particular, have attracted attention as favorable materials for speedy and durable structural constructions. In the present research, an experimental investigation is carried out to investigate the flexural response of sandwich beams with a pre-cracked core-upper facesheet interface located at one end of the beam. During the development of the sandwich beams, an initial pre-cracked debond was created between the core and facesheet by placing a Teflon sheet at the interface. Both three-point and four-point flexural tests were conducted to characterize the flexural behavior of the sandwich beams. The effects of the loading rate, core thickness, and placement of the initial interfacial crack under a compressive or tensile stress state on the response and failure mechanism of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP)/Polyurethane (PU) foam sandwich beams were investigated. It was found that the crack tip of the initial debonding between the upper facesheet and the core served as a damage initiation trigger followed by the fracture failure of the core due to the growth of the initial crack into the core in an out-of-plane mode. Finally, this leads to facesheet damage and rupture under flexural loadings. An increase in the core thickness resulted in a higher peak load, but the failure of the sandwich beam was observed to occur at significantly lower displacement values. It was found that the behavior of sandwich beams with higher core thickness was loading rate-sensitive, resulting in stiffer response as the loading rate was increased from 0.05 to 1.5 mm/s. This change in stiffness (10–15%) could be related to the squeezing of all pore space, resulting in the collapse of cell walls and thereby making the cell behave as a solid material. As a result, the occurrence of the densification phase in thick core beams occurs at a faster rate, which in turn makes the thick cored sandwich beams exhibit loading rate-sensitive behavior. 相似文献

This paper presents numerical failure analysis on cracking of shield machine cutterhead structure during a metro-tunnel construction. The stress intensity factors (SIFs) of surface cracks with different shapes and location angles were analyzed by a finite element simulation method based on linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) theory. The ratios of variation in stress intensity factors of cracks with different shapes were analyzed. The maximum allowable crack depth of the cutterhead panel is 50.23 mm by dynamic stress calculation, and the damage tolerance criterion of the cutterhead panel was proposed. The influence of the Paris model parameter values was analyzed based on mathematical methods. It is proven that the location of the cutterhead cracking angle is mainly determined by the mixed-mode SIF. In practice, the crack section basically expanded into the semi-elliptical shape. The cutterhead structure may directly enter the stage of crack propagation due to welding defects during tunneling. The research results provide a theoretical basis and important reference for crack detection in the key parts of the cutterhead, as well as maintenance cycle determination and life prediction of the cutterhead mileage, both of which have important engineering value. 相似文献

This paper presents results of numerical analysis and experimental research on strengthening of steel–concrete composite beams. Studied members consisted of IPE200 I-beam and 90 × 700 mm reinforced concrete slab. The steel part of the section was strengthened by welding additional steel plates at the bottom. The study was performed for plate thickness ranging between 6 to 22 mm. Spatial FEM models were developed to account for material and geometric nonlinearities and for stress and post-welding strain. Proposed numerical models were experimentally validated. One aim was to find an optimum solution which would minimize cost and maximize bending capacity. To achieve this, energy parameters available in numerical simulations were reviewed and analyzed. Recoverable strain energy value determined in Abaqus was used to find the optimum solution. 相似文献

Ultrasonic fatigue tests were performed on Ti60 titanium alloy up to a very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime at various stress ratios to investigate the characteristics. The S-N curves showed continuous declining trends with fatigue limits of 400, 144 and 130 MPa at 109 cycles corresponding to stress ratios of R = −1, 0.1 and 0.3, respectively. Fatigue cracks found to be initiated from the subsurface of the specimens in the VHCF regime, especially at high stress ratios. Two modified fatigue life prediction models based on fatigue crack initiation mechanisms for Ti60 titanium alloy in the VHCF regime were developed which showed good agreement with the experimental data. 相似文献

The unexpected failures of structural materials in very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime have been a critical issue in modern engineering design. In this study, the VHCF property of a Cr-Ni-W gear steel was experimentally investigated under axial loading with the stress ratio of R = −1, and a life prediction model associated with crack initiation and growth behaviors was proposed. Results show that the Cr-Ni-W gear steel exhibits the constantly decreasing S-N property without traditional fatigue limit, and the fatigue strength corresponding to 109 cycles is around 485 MPa. The inclusion-fine granular area (FGA)-fisheye induced failure becomes the main failure mechanism in the VHCF regime, and the local stress around the inclusion play a key role. By using the finite element analysis of representative volume element, the local stress tends to increase with the increase of elastic modulus difference between inclusion and matrix. The predicted crack initiation life occupies the majority of total fatigue life, while the predicted crack growth life is only accounts for a tiny fraction. In view of the good agreement between the predicted and experimental results, the proposed VHCF life prediction model involving crack initiation and growth can be acceptable for inclusion-FGA-fisheye induced failure. 相似文献

Composite materials are increasingly used to strengthen existing structures or new load-bearing elements, also made of timber. In this paper, the effect of the number of layers of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) on the load-bearing capacity and stiffness of Glued Laminated Timber beams was determined. Experimental research was performed on 32 elements—a series of eight unreinforced beams, and three series of eight reinforced beams: with one, three and five layers of laminate each. The beams with a cross-section of 38 mm × 80 mm and a length of 750 mm were subjected to the four-point bending test according to standard procedure. For each series, destructive force, deflection, mode of failure, and equivalent stiffness were determined. In addition, for the selected samples, X-ray computed tomography was performed before and after their destruction to define the quality of the interface between wood and composite. The results of the conducted tests and analyses showed that there was no clear relationship between the number of reinforcement layers and the load-bearing capacity of the beams and their stiffness. Unreinforced beams failed due to tension, while reinforced CFRP beams failed due to shear. Despite this, a higher energy of failure of composite-reinforced elements was demonstrated in relation to the reference beams. 相似文献

In this study, an investigation of the shear behavior of full-scale reinforced concrete (RC) beams affected from alkali–silica reactivity damage is presented. A detailed finite element model (FEM) was developed and validated with data obtained from the experiments using several metrics, including a force–deformation curve, rebar strains, and crack maps and width. The validated FEM was used in a parametric study to investigate the potential impact of alkali–silica reactivity (ASR) degradation on the shear capacity of the beam. Degradations of concrete mechanical properties were correlated with ASR expansion using material test data and implemented in the FEM for different expansions. The finite element (FE) analysis provided a better understanding of the failure mechanism of ASR-affected RC beam and degradation in the capacity as a function of the ASR expansion. The parametric study using the FEM showed 6%, 19%, and 25% reduction in the shear capacity of the beam, respectively, affected from 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.6% of ASR-induced expansion. 相似文献

Reinforced concrete (RC) structures necessitate strengthening for various reasons. These include ageing, deterioration of materials due to environmental effects, trivial initial design and construction, deficiency of maintenance, the advancement of design loads, and functional changes. RC structures strengthening with the carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) has been used extensively during the last few decades due to their advantages over steel reinforcement. This paper introduces an experimental approach for flexural strengthening of RC beams with Externally-Side Bonded Reinforcement (E-SBR) using CFRP fabrics. The experimental program comprises eight full-scale RC beams tested under a four-point flexural test up to failure. The parameters investigated include the main tensile steel reinforcing ratio and the width of CFRP fabrics. The experimental outcomes show that an increase in the tensile reinforcement ratio and width of the CFRP laminates enhanced the first cracking and ultimate load-bearing capacities of the strengthened beams up to 141 and 174%, respectively, compared to the control beam. The strengthened RC beams exhibited superior energy absorption capacity, stiffness, and ductile response. The comparison of the experimental and predicted values shows that these two are in good agreement. 相似文献

In this paper, a new method for fatigue life prediction under multiaxial stress-strain conditions is developed. The method applies machine learning with the Gaussian process for regression to build a fatigue model. The fatigue failure mechanisms are reflected in the model by the application of the physics-based stress and strain invariants as input quantities. The application of the machine learning algorithm solved the problem of assigning an adequate parametric fatigue model to given material and loading conditions. The model was verified using the experimental data on the CuZn37 brass subjected to various cyclic loadings, including non-proportional multiaxial strain paths. The performance of the machine learning-based fatigue life prediction model is higher than the performance of the well-known parametric models. 相似文献

One of the biggest challenges in facilitating the installation of concrete is the development of fibre-reinforced concrete. Although nowadays fibre reinforced concrete is relatively common, it is still necessary to deepen in the study on its behaviour, especially regarding its fatigue behaviour. This paper proposes a new methodology to analyse the bending fatigue behaviour of notched test specimens. From these tests, it was possible to verify that, despite carrying out the tests with load control, the presence of fibres extends the fatigue life of the concrete after cracking. This effect is of great importance since during the extra lifetime with the cracked concrete, the damage to the concrete will be evident and the corresponding maintenance measures can be carried out. Regarding the analysis of the results, in addition to obtaining a traditional S-N curve, two new criteria have been applied, namely energy and notch growth. From these two new approaches, it was possible to determine critical energy values that can be used as predictive indicators of the collapse of the element. Moreover, from the notch growth analysis, it was possible to determine crack growth rate as a function of the stress conditions for the concrete and the specific geometry. From the comparison among the results obtained from the different tests, a limit cracking index of 0.05 mm can be defined. 相似文献

The fatigue strength and fatigue life of high-strength steels are greatly affected by their surface roughness. This study investigates the underlying mechanisms responsible for fatigue failure of the high-strength steel 42CrMo. Bending fatigue tests of stepped shafts with different levels of surface roughness were conducted to observe the fatigue live reduction affected by surface topography. Besides, the mechanical properties of 42CrMo and its strain–life relationship were established. Moreover, the analytical formulas to describe the stress concentration factor (SCF) and fatigue notch factor (FNF) induced by surface topography were introduced. To estimate the fatigue life of machined specimens with the consideration of surface roughness, the elastic portion of the total strain–life curve of the material was revised with the proposed analytical FNF imposed by surface topography. Comparisons between the estimated fatigue lives and experimentally obtained fatigue lives show that the effect of surface roughness on fatigue lives could be estimated effectively and conveniently by the proposed procedure. 相似文献

In order to improve the reliability and service life of vehicle and diesel engine, the fatigue life prediction of the piston in a heavy diesel engine was studied by finite element analysis of piston, experiment data of aluminum alloy, fatigue life model based on energy dissipation criteria, and machine learning algorithm. First, the finite element method was used to calculate and analyze the temperature field, thermal stress field, and thermal–mechanical coupling stress field of the piston, and determine the area of heavy thermal and mechanical load that will affect the fatigue life of the piston. Second, based on the results of finite element calculation, the creep–fatigue experiment of 2A80 aluminum alloy was carried out, and the cyclic response characteristics of the material under different loading conditions were obtained. Third, the fatigue life prediction models based on energy dissipation criterion and twin support vector regression are proposed. Then, the accuracy of the two models was verified using experiment data. The results show that the model based on the twin support vector regression is more accurate for predicting the material properties of aluminum alloy. Based on the established life prediction model, the fatigue life of pistons under actual service conditions is predicted. The calculation results show that the minimum fatigue life of the piston under plain condition is 2113.60 h, and the fatigue life under 5000 m altitude condition is 1425.70 h. 相似文献

To meet the requirements of durability design for concrete suffering frost damage, several test standards have been launched. Among the various damage indexes such as deteriorated compressive strength, relative dynamic elastic modulus (RDEM), residual deformation, etc., the concept of a “Durability Factor” (DF) is proposed by many standards to define the frost resistivity of concrete against frost action based on the experimental results from standard tests. Through a review of the literature, a clear tendency of strength/RDEM decay and residual deformation increase is captured with increasing cycles of freezing and thawing. However, tests following different standards finally derive huge scattering quantitative responses of frost resistance. Based on the large database of available laboratory experiments, this study presents a statistical analysis to propose a predictable model to calculate the DF with respect to other material factors. The statistical model is believed to be more convenient for engineering applications since the time-consuming experiment is no longer needed, and it is more precise compared with that developed according to only single experimental results to cover the uncertainties and unavoidable errors in specific tests. Moreover, the formula to calculate the DF is revised into a more general form so as to be applicable for all the laboratory experiments even for those cases without fully following the standards to derive a DF value. 相似文献
