Agenesis of the right lobe of the liver: case report

Agenesis of the right liver lobe is extremely rare, and only 30 cases of agenesis or hypogenesis of the right hepatic lobe have been reported in the literature. Another case of agenesis of the right lobe of liver is presented herein. Diagnosis was established by computed tomography (CT), liver scintigraphy, and angiography. The radiological findings and differential diagnosis are reviewed.     

Malignant Caroli's disease. Etiopathogenic hypotheses, apropos a case]

We present a case report of Caroli's disease with related cholangiocarcinoma in a 30 years old white woman. The risk of Caroli's disease malignization is estimated about 7-12% being cholangiocarcinoma the histopathologic pattern most frequently found. This frequency, which is over 100 times higher than that expected in the general population, make us think over the possibility of being some premalignant agent, if not a really carcinogenic one in Caroli's disease. The risk of degeneration is proportional to time of evolution of the disease so, when it is possible, the resective surgery should be elected.     

Caroli's disease of the left hepatic lobe associated with hepatic fibrosis

We report a case of segmental Caroli's disease limited to the left hepatic lobe in a 32-year-old woman who presented with cholangitis. Histologic examination showed hepatic fibrosis also limited to the left lobe.     

Congenital multiple cystic dilatation of the intrahepatic biliary ducts (two cases with simple type of Caroli's disease).

Two cases of Caroli's diseases (simple type) precisely diagnosed prior to the operation by the direct cholangiography, endoscopic retrograde cholangiography, and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography, were reported. They both had a long cystic duct, and association of cystic lesions of bilateral kidneys was revealed in one of them. Excessive biliary output had been observed postoperatively in both of them. A cholecystectomy and choledochodrainage successfully gave rise to favourable results in both cases reported.     

Anomalous right lobe of the liver: CT appearance

We report five cases of anomalous right lobe of the liver diagnosed by computed tomography (CT). There were three men and two women, with an average age of 67 years. The right lobe was deformed and decreased in size in all patients. Hypertrophy of the left lobe was present in all patients.     

A rare case of anomalous venous drainage of the right upper lobe

We present an unusual case of partial anomalous venous drainage in which the vein of the right upper lobe drains into the superior vena cava, together with the azygos vein. This was discovered during surgery for a lung tumor of the right upper lobe. We present the embryological background, functional consequences and literature on this rare anatomical anomaly.
