THE EFFECT OF EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF CONGENITAL DISLOCATION OF THE HIP

Abstract. The effects of early diagnostic measures of congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH) in Malmo during the years 1956-1972 were investigated. Of 58759 newborns 548 were diagnosed as having CDH. Only 4 cases were missed at the initial examination. Thus, all, or almost all, children with CDH can be diagnosed at birth provided that the initial examination is undertaken within 24 or 48 hours.     

THE EFFECT OF ANTEPARTUM HAEMORRHAGE ON THE HEALTH OF THE CHILD*

In this prospective study the infants born to mothers who suffered an antepartum haemorrhage after the 28th week of pregnancy were matched with a control series. The neonatal mortality and morbidity and later assessment at 6 weeks and 2 years of age regarding their general maturity were compared.     

POST-NATAL INFARCTION OF THE RIGHT LOBE OF THE LIVER

Postnatal infarction of the right lobe of the liver. Acta Paediatr Scand 63: 453, 1974.–A case of hypoplasia of the hepatic artery with infarction of the right lobe of the liver is reported. The part played by the arterial as well as the venous blood supply to the liver cells in the immediate post-natal period is discussed. It is stressed that infarcts of the Liver may occur in the presence of arterial insufficiency whether venous occlusion is present or not.
