The plastic deformation processes and fracture behavior of a Ti–5Al–5Mo–5V–1Cr–1Fe alloy with bimodal and lamellar microstructures were studied by room-temperature tensile tests with in situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations. The results indicate that a bimodal microstructure has a lower strength but higher ductility than a lamellar microstructure. For the bimodal microstructure, parallel, deep slip bands (SBs) are first noticed in the primary α (αp) phase lying at an angle of about 45° to the direction of the applied tension, while they are first observed in the coarse lath α (αL) phase or its interface at grain boundaries (GBs) for the lamellar microstructure. The β matrix undergoes larger plastic deformation than the αL phase in the bimodal microstructure before fracture. Microcracks are prone to nucleate at the αp/β interface and interconnect, finally causing the fracture of the bimodal microstructure. The plastic deformation is mainly restricted to within the coarse αL phase at GBs, which promotes the formation of microcracks and the intergranular fracture of the lamellar microstructure.  相似文献

In the present study, two different cermet coatings, WC–CrC–Ni and Cr3C2–NiCr, manufactured by the high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) method were studied. They are labeled as follows: WC–CrC–Ni coating—WC and Cr3C2–NiCr coating—CrC. These coatings were deposited onto a magnesium alloy (AZ31) substrate. The goal of the study was to compare these two types of cermet coating, which were investigated in terms of microstructure features and selected mechanical properties, such as hardness, instrumented indentation, fracture toughness, and wear resistance. The results reveal that the WC content influenced the hardness and Young’s modulus. The most noticeable effect of WC addition was observed for the wear resistance. WC coatings had a wear intensity value that was almost two times lower, equal to 6.5·10−6 mm3/N·m, whereas for CrC ones it was equal to 12.6·10−6 mm3/N·m. On the other hand, the WC coating exhibited a lower value of fracture toughness.  相似文献

Al–5Ti–C master alloy was prepared and used to modify hypereutectic Al–20%Si alloy. The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of hypereutectic Al–20%Si alloy with Al–5Ti–C master alloy additions (0, 0.4, 0.6, 1.0, 1.6 and 2.0 wt%) were investigated. The results show that, Al–5Ti–C master alloy (0.6 wt%, 10 min) can significantly refine both eutectic and primary Si of hypereutectic Al–20%Si alloy. The morphology of the primary Si crystals was significantly refined from a coarse polygonal and star-like shape to a fine polyhedral shape and the grain size of the primary Si was refined from roughly 90–120 μm to 20–50 μm. The eutectic Si phases were modified from a coarse platelet-like/needle-like structure to a fine fibrous structure with discrete particles. The Al–5Ti–C master alloy (0.6 wt%, 30 min) still has a good refinement effect. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS), elongation (El) and Brinell hardness (HB) of Al–20%Si alloy modified by the Al–5Ti–C master alloy (0.6 wt%, 10 min) increased by roughly 65%, 70% and 51%, respectively, due to decreasing the size and changing the morphology on the primary and eutectic Si crystals. The change in mechanical properties corresponds to evolution of the microstructure.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze the crystallization of the Mg72Zn24Ca4 metallic glass alloy. The crystallization process of metallic glass Mg72Zn24Ca4 was investigated by means of the differential scanning calorimetry. The glass-forming ability and crystallization are both strongly dependent on the heating rate. The crystallization kinetics, during the isothermal annealing, were modelled by the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami equation. Avrami exponents were from 2.7 to 3.51, which indicates diffusion-controlled grain growth. Local exponents of the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami equation were also calculated. In addition, the Mg phase—being the isothermal crystallization product—was found, and the diagram of the time–temperature phase transformation was developed. This diagram enables the reading of the start and end times of the crystallization process, occurring in amorphous ribbons of the Mg72Zn24Ca4 alloy on the isothermal annealing temperature. The research showed high stability of the amorphous structure of Mg72Zn24Ca4 alloy at human body temperature.  相似文献

The microstructure and precipitate evolution of as-cast Mg–Nd alloys with different contents of Nd was investigated via experimental and simulation methods. The research showed that the as-cast microstructure of Mg–Nd alloy consisted of α-Mg dendrites and the intermetallic phases. A metastable β phase precipitated, followed by α-Mg dendrites that could be confirmed as Mg12Nd by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The amount of β-Mg12Nd presented a rising trend with increasing Nd additions. In addition, the tertiary phase was also observed in as-cast Mg–Nd alloy when Nd content was greater than 3 wt.%, which precipitated from the oversaturated α-Mg matrix. The tertiary phase should be β1-Mg3Nd, which is also a metastable phase with a face-centered cubic lattice. However, it is a pity that the tertiary phase was not detected by the XRD technique. Moreover, an effective cellular automaton (CA) model was explored and applied to simulate the time-dependent α-Mg/β1-Mg3Nd eutectic growth. The simulated results of α-Mg/β1-Mg3Nd eutectic growth in Mg-3Nd presented that the growth of α-Mg dendrites was accompanied by the nucleation and growth of β1-Mg3Nd precipitates and eventually formed a eutectic structure. The eutectic morphologies for Mg–Nd system alloys with different Nd contents were also simulated using the proposed model, and the results revealed that α-Mg dendrite was a refinement, and the amount of α-Mg/β1-Mg3Nd eutectic was promoted, with increasing Nd content.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to investigate the features of microstructure, phase composition, mechanical properties, and thermal stability of the two-component melt-spun Ni55Fe20Cu5P10B10 alloy. The development of the microstructure after heating to elevated temperatures was studied using scanning electron microscope and in situ high temperature X-ray diffraction. The high-temperature behavior of the two-component melt-spun Ni55Fe20Cu5P10B10 alloy and Ni40Fe40B20, Ni70Cu10P20, and Ni55Fe20Cu5P10B10 alloys melt-spun from single-chamber crucible was investigated using differential scanning calorymetry at different heating rates and by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. The results show that band-like microstructure of the composite alloy is stable even at 800 K, although coarsening of bands forming the microstructure of the ribbons is observed above 550 K. Plastic deformation is observed in the composite previously heated to temperatures of 600–650 K. The properties of the composite alloy are generally different than the properties obtained for the melt-spun alloy of the same average nominal composition produced traditionally. Additionally, the mechanical and the thermal properties in this composite are inherited from the amorphous state of alloys that are precursors for two-component melt spinning (TCMS) processing.  相似文献

The effects of boron doping on the microstructural evolution and mechanical and electrical properties of age-hardenable Cu–4Ti (at.%) alloys are investigated. In the quenched Cu–4Ti–0.03B (at.%) alloy, elemental B (boron) is preferentially segregated at the grain boundaries of the supersaturated solid-solution phase. The aging behavior of the B-doped alloy is mostly similar to that of conventional age-hardenable Cu–Ti alloys. In the early stage of aging at 450 °C, metastable β′-Cu4Ti with fine needle-shaped precipitates continuously form in the matrix phase. Cellular discontinuous precipitates composed of the stable β-Cu4Ti and solid-solution laminates are then formed and grown at the grain boundaries. However, the volume fraction of the discontinuous precipitates is lower in the Cu–4Ti–0.03B alloy than the Cu–4Ti alloy, particularly in the over-aging period of 72–120 h. The suppression of the formation of discontinuous precipitates eventually results in improvement of the hardness and tensile strength. It should be noted that minor B doping of Cu–Ti alloys also effectively enhances the elongation to fracture, which should be attributed to segregation of B at the grain boundaries.  相似文献

We performed biological safety evaluation tests of three Ti–Zr alloys under accelerated extraction condition. We also conducted histopathological analysis of long-term implantation of pure V, Al, Ni, Zr, Nb, and Ta metals as well as Ni–Ti and high-V-containing Ti–15V–3Al–3Sn alloys in rats. The effect of the dental implant (screw) shape on morphometrical parameters was investigated using rabbits. Moreover, we examined the maximum pullout properties of grit-blasted Ti–Zr alloys after their implantation in rabbits. The biological safety evaluation tests of three Ti–Zr alloys (Ti–15Zr–4Nb, Ti–15Zr–4Nb–1Ta, and Ti–15Zr–4Nb–4Ta) showed no adverse (negative) effects of either normal or accelerated extraction. No bone was formed around the pure V and Ni implants. The Al, Zr, Nb, and Ni–Ti implants were surrounded by new bone. The new bone formed around Ti–Ni and high-V-containing Ti alloys tended to be thinner than that formed around Ti–Zr and Ti–6Al–4V alloys. The rate of bone formation on the threaded portion in the Ti–15Zr–4Nb–4Ta dental implant was the same as that on a smooth surface. The maximum pullout loads of the grit- and shot-blasted Ti–Zr alloys increased linearly with implantation period in rabbits. The pullout load of grit-blasted Ti–Zr alloy rods was higher than that of shot-blasted ones. The surface roughness (Ra) and area ratio of residual Al2O3 particles of the Ti–15Zr–4Nb alloy surface grit-blasted with Al2O3 particles were the same as those of the grit-blasted Alloclassic stem surface. It was clarified that the grit-blasted Ti–15Zr–4Nb alloy could be used for artificial hip joint stems.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to develop a new coating material based on Ni20Cr alloy modified with up to 50%wt. rhenium. The modification was carried out by the mechanical mixing of the base powder and ammonium perrhenate with the subsequent thermoreduction in an H2 atmosphere. The obtained powder consists of a nickel–chromium core surrounded by a rhenium shell. The characterization of the powders—including their microstructure, phase and chemical composition, density, flowability, particle size distribution, and specific surface area—was performed. The influence of plasma current intensity and hydrogen gas flow on in-flight particle temperature and velocity were investigated. The results indicate that there is interdiffusion between the base Ni20Cr and the rhenium shell, resulting in intermediary solid solution(s). The modified powders have a higher specific surface area and a lower flowability, but this does not prevent them from being used as feedstock in plasma spraying. In-flight measurements reveal that increasing the content of rhenium allows for the higher temperature of particles, though it also reduces their speed.  相似文献

CoCrFeMoNi high entropy alloys (HEAs) exhibit several promising characteristics for potential applications of high temperature coating. In this study, metastable intermetallic phases and their thermal stability of high-entropy alloy CoCrFeMo0.85Ni were investigated via thermal and microstructural analyses. Solidus and liquidus temperatures of CoCrFeMo0.85Ni were determined by differential thermal analysis as 1323 °C and 1331 °C, respectively. Phase transitions also occur at 800 °C and 1212 °C during heating. Microstructure of alloy exhibits a single-phase face-centred cubic (FCC) matrix embedded with the mixture of (Co, Cr, Fe)-rich tetragonal phase and Mo-rich rhombohedron-like phase. The morphologies of two intermetallics show matrix-based tetragonal phases bordered by Mo-rich rhombohedral precipitates around their perimeter. The experimental results presented in our paper provide key information on the microstructure and thermal stability of our alloy, which will assist in the development of similar thermal spray HEA coatings.  相似文献

The current study investigated the microstructure modification in Al–6Mg–5Si–0.15Ti alloy (in mass %) through the minor addition of Ca using Mg + Al2Ca master alloy and heat treatment to see their impact on mechanical properties. The microstructure of unmodified alloy (without Ca) consisted of primary Al, primary Mg2Si, binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si, ternary eutectic Al–Mg2Si–Si, and iron-bearing phases. The addition of 0.05 wt% Ca resulted in significant microstructure refinement. In addition to refinement, lamellar to fibrous-type modification of binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si phases was also achieved in Ca-added (modified) alloy. This modification was related to increasing Ca-based intermetallics/compounds in the modified alloy that acted as nucleation sites for binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si phases. The dendritic refinement with Ca addition was related to the fact that it improves the efficacy of Ti-based particles (TiAl3 and TiB2) in the melt to act as nucleation sites. In contrast, the occupation of oxide bifilms by Ca-based phases is expected to force the iron-bearing phases (as iron-bearing phases nucleate at oxide films) to solidify at lower temperatures, thus reducing their size. The as-cast microstructure of these alloys was further modified by subjecting them to solution treatment at 540 °C for 6 h, which broke the eutectic structure and redistributed Mg2Si and Si phases in Al-matrix. Subsequent aging treatment caused a dramatic increase in the tensile strength of these alloys, and tensile strength of 291 MPa (with El% of 0.45%) and 327 MPa (with El% of 0.76%) was achieved for the unmodified alloy and modified alloy, respectively. Higher tensile strength and elongation of the modified alloy than unmodified alloy was attributed to refined dendritic structure and modified second phases.  相似文献

Understanding the mechanisms of deformation and fracture of metastable β titanium alloys is of great significance for improving formability and service life. By combining the in-situ tensile test, TEM characterization and EBSD analysis, the tensile deformation behavior, activation of slip systems, crack initiation, and propagation of a high strength metastable β titanium alloy (Ti-5Cr-4Al-4Zr-3Mo-2W-0.8Fe) with equiaxed microstructure are investigated. The equiaxed microstructure is composed of primary α (αp) phase, transformed β (βt) matrix phase, and secondary α (αs) phase. In contrast to the hexagonal αp grain with limited slip systems, the body-centered βt matrix has more slip systems, however the hindering effect of αs phases on dislocation slip leads to the different deformability of the αp phase and βt matrix. The equiaxed αp grains are more prone to deformation and rotation to coordinate the overall deformation. The shear band leads to the formation of sub-grain boundary and even the fragmentation of αp grains. As a result, the microvoids tend to nucleate at the grain boundary, phase interface, slip band, and shear band. The inhomogeneous deformation in the plastic deformation zone around the crack tip is the primary cause of damage. The crack propagation caused by microvoids coalescence advances along the grain boundaries and phase interfaces in the form of intergranular, and along the activated slip systems and shear bands in the form of transgranular. Pinpointing the situation in the equiaxed microstructure and combining that in other typical microstructures will help to summarize the universal deformation and fracture mechanisms of metastable β titanium alloy, and provide a basis for alloy design and microstructure tailoring.  相似文献

The microstructural and wear properties of laser-cladding WC/Ni-based layer on Al–Si alloy were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and wear-testing. The results show that, compared with the original specimen, the microhardness and wear resistance of the cladding layer on an Al–Si alloy were remarkably improved, wherein the microhardness of the layer achieved 1100 HV and the average friction coefficient of the layer was barely 0.14. The mainly contributor to such significant improvement was the generation of a WC/Ni-composite layer of Al–Si alloy during laser cladding. Two types of carbides, identified as M7C3 and M23C6, were found in the layer. The wear rate of the layer first increased and then decreased with the increase in load; when the load was 20 N, 60 N and 80 N, the wear rate of layer was1.89 × 10−3 mm3·m−1, 3.73 × 10−3 mm3·m−1 and 2.63 × 10−3 mm3·m−1, respectively, and the average friction coefficient (0.14) was the smallest when the load was 60 N.  相似文献

The precipitation of intermetallic phases and the associated hardening by artificial aging treatments at elevated temperatures above 400 °C were systematically investigated in the commercially available AC2B alloy with a nominal composition of Al–6Si–3Cu (mass%). The natural age hardening of the artificially aged samples at various temperatures was also examined. A slight increase in hardness (approximately 5 HV) of the AC2B alloy was observed at an elevated temperature of 480 °C. The hardness change is attributed to the precipitation of metastable phases associated with the α-Al15(Fe, Mn)3Si2 phase containing a large amount of impurity elements (Fe and Mn). At a lower temperature of 400 °C, a slight artificial-age hardening appeared. Subsequently, the hardness decreased moderately. This phenomenon was attributed to the precipitation of stable θ-Al2Cu and Q-Al4Cu2Mg8Si6 phases and their coarsening after a long duration. The precipitation sequence was rationalized by thermodynamic calculations for the Al–Si–Cu–Fe–Mn–Mg system. The natural age-hardening behavior significantly varied depending on the prior artificial aging temperatures ranging from 400 °C to 500 °C. The natural age-hardening was found to strongly depend on the solute contents of Cu and Si in the Al matrix. This study provides fundamental insights into controlling the strength level of commercial Al–Si–Cu cast alloys with impurity elements using the cooling process after solution treatment at elevated temperatures above 400 °C.  相似文献

In this study, laser-directed energy deposition was applied to build a Ti-rich ternary Ti–Ni–Cu shape-memory alloy onto a TiNi shape-memory alloy substrate to realize the joining of the multifunctional bi-metallic shape-memory alloy structure. The cost-effective Ti, Ni, and Cu elemental powder blend was used for raw materials. Various material characterization approaches were applied to reveal different material properties in two sections. The as-fabricated Ti–Ni–Cu alloy microstructure has the TiNi phase as the matrix with Ti2Ni secondary precipitates. The hardness shows no high values indicating that the major phase is not hard intermetallics. A bonding strength of 569.1 MPa was obtained by tensile testing, and digital image correlation reveals the different tensile responses of the two sections. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to measure the phase-transformation temperatures. The austenite finishing temperature of higher than 80 °C was measured for the Ti–Ni–Cu alloy section. For the TiNi substrate, the austenite finishing temperature was tested to be near 47 °C at the bottom and around 22 °C at the upper substrate region, which is due to the repeated laser scanning that acts as annealing on the substrate. Finally, the multiple shape-memory effect of two shape-memory alloy sides was tested and identified.  相似文献

Structural and phase transformations in the microstructure and new metastable baro- and deformation-induced phases of the Ni50Mn28.5Ga21.5 alloy, typical of the unique class of ferromagnetic shape memory Heusler alloys, have been systematically studied for the first time. Phase X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, and temperature measurements of electrical resistivity and magnetic characteristics in strong magnetic fields were used. It was found that in the course of increasing the pressure from 3 to 12 GPa, the metastable long-period structure of martensite modulated according to the 10M-type experienced transformation into a final non-modulated 2M structure. It is proved that severe shear deformation by high pressure torsion (HPT) entails grainsize refinement to a nanocrystalline and partially amorphized state in the polycrystalline structure of the martensitic alloy. In this case, an HPT shear of five revolutions under pressure of 3 GPa provided total atomic disordering and a stepwise structural-phase transformation (SPT) according to the scheme 10M → 2MB2 + A2, whereas under pressure of 5 GPa the SPT took place according to the scheme 10M → 2MB2 → A1. It is shown that low-temperature annealing at a temperature of 573 K caused the amorphous phase to undergo devitrification, and annealing at 623–773 K entailed recrystallization with the restoration of the L21 superstructure in the final ultrafine-grained state. The size effect of suppression of the martensitic transformation in an austenitic alloy with a critical grain size of less than 100 nm at cooling to 120 K was determined. It was established that after annealing at 773 K, a narrow-hysteresis thermoelastic martensitic transformation was restored in a plastic ultrafine-grained alloy with the formation of 10M and 14M martensite at temperatures close to those characteristic of the cast prototype of the alloy.  相似文献

For the first time, uniaxial megaplastic compression was successfully applied to a polycrystalline shape-memory Cu-Al-Ni-based alloy. The samples before and after uniaxial megaplastic compression were examined by methods of X-ray diffraction, optical, electron transmission, and scanning microscopy. The temperature dependences of electrical resistance and the mechanical properties of the alloys under uniaxial tension were also measured. The mechanical behavior under uniaxial megaplastic compression in isothermal conditions in the range of 300–1073 K was studied using the Instron 8862 electric testing machine. The microstructure, phase composition, and martensitic transformations in the eutectoid alloy (Cu-14wt.%Al–4 wt.%Ni) were studied. The radical refinement of the grain structure of the initial hardened D03 austenite was found under controlled isothermal compression, due to dynamic recrystallization in the temperature range 673–1073 K and velocities of 0.5–5 mm/min. Compression at 873–1073 K was accompanied by simultaneous partial pro-eutectoid decomposition with the precipitation of the γ2 phase. Compression at temperatures of 673 and 773 K—that is, below the eutectoid decomposition temperature (840 K)—was accompanied by the precipitation of disperse γ2 and α phases, and ultradisperse B2’ particles. Cooling of the deformed alloy to room temperature after performing each regime of compression led to thermoelastic martensitic transformation, together with the precipitation of the β′ and γ′ phases. The formation of a fine-grained structure produced an unusual combination of strength and plasticity of the initially brittle alloy both under controlled uniaxial compression, and during subsequent tensile tests at room temperature.  相似文献

The Ti–Ag alloy system is an important constituent of dental casting materials and metallic biomaterials with antibacterial functions. The binary Ti–Ag alloy system is characterized by flat liquidus lines with metastable liquid miscibility gaps in the phase diagram. The ternary Ti–Ag-based alloys with liquid phase separation (LPS) were designed based on the mixing enthalpy parameters, thermodynamic calculations using FactSage and Scientific Group Thermodata Europe (SGTE) database, and the predicted ground state diagrams constructed by the Materials Project. The LPS behavior in the ternary Ti–Ag–Nb alloy was investigated using the solidification microstructure analysis in arc-melted ingots and rapidly solidified melt-spun ribbons via trans-scale observations, combined with optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) including electron probe micro analysis (EPMA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). The solidification microstructures depended on the solidification processing in ternary Ti–Ag–Nb alloys; macroscopic phase-separated structures were observed in the arc-melted ingots, whereas fine Ag globules embedded in the Ti-based matrix were observed in the melt-spun ribbons.  相似文献

The aim of the work was to characterize the structure of Al65Cu20Fe15 alloy obtained with the use of conventional casting and rapid solidification-melt-spinning technology. Based on the literature data, the possibility of an icosahedral quasicrystalline phase forming in the Al-Cu-Fe was verified. Structure analysis was performed based on the results of X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, 57Fe Mössbauer and transmission electron microscopy. Studies using differential scanning calorimetry were carried out to describe the crystallization mechanism. Additionally, electrochemical tests were performed in order to characterize the influence of the structure and cooling rate on the corrosion resistance. On the basis of the structural studies, the formation of a metastable icosahedral phase and partial amorphous state of ribbon structure were demonstrated. The possibility of the formation of icosahedral quasicrystalline phase I-AlCuFe together with the crystalline phases was indicated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), neutron diffraction (ND) patterns, Mössbauer spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) observations and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves. The beneficial effect of the application of rapid solidification on the corrosive properties was also confirmed.  相似文献

In this work, electrically active defects of pristine and 5.5 MeV electron irradiated p-type silicon–germanium (Si1−xGex)-based diodes were examined by combining regular capacitance deep-level transient spectroscopy (C-DLTS) and Laplace DLTS (L-DLTS) techniques. The p-type SiGe alloys with slightly different Ge contents were examined. It was deduced from C-DLTS and L-DLTS spectra that the carbon/oxygen-associated complexes prevailed in the pristine Si0.949Ge0.051 alloys. Irradiation with 5.5 MeV electrons led to a considerable change in the DLT spectrum containing up to seven spectral peaks due to the introduction of radiation defects. These defects were identified using activation energy values reported in the literature. The double interstitial and oxygen complexes and the vacancy, di-vacancy and tri-vacancy ascribed traps were revealed in the irradiated samples. The interstitial carbon and the metastable as well as stable forms of carbon–oxygen (CiOi* and CiOi) complexes were also identified for the electron-irradiated SiGe alloys. It was found that the unstable form of the carbon–oxygen complex became a stable complex in the irradiated and the subsequently annealed (at 125 °C) SiGe samples. The activation energy shifts in the radiation-induced deep traps to lower values were defined when increasing Ge content in the SiGe alloy.  相似文献
