Fibrous dysplasia is a rare disease of unknown cause that affects one or multiple bones. In its monostotic form, only one bone is involved. The maxilla is the most commonly affected facial bone. Facial deformity with or without pain is the most common presentation of fibrous dysplasia affecting the craniofacial bones. In certain cases the disorder can present clinically as chronic maxillary sinusitis. The clinical, radiologic, and histologic findings, as well as the differential diagnosis and treatment of this condition are reviewed. 相似文献

Fibrous dysplasia is a rare and indolent benign tumor of bone. Although it is a benign tumor, it has malignant transformation potential. Fibrous dysplasia can involve a single or multiple bones. The maxilla and mandible are the most common sites in the head and neck region. Paranasal sinus involvement is rare. Surgical excision is the preferred treatment of patients with symptomatic fibrous dysplasia. In this article, a 54-year-old male patient diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia of the frontal bone is presented. 相似文献

More fibro-osseous lesions originate in the bones of the extremities than in the craniomaxillofacial bones, scapula, and ribs, which are rarely involved. Fibro-osseous lesions that decrease the quality of life should be treated surgically. We report the case of a fibro-osseous lesion that caused globus pharyngeus and dysphagia. We discuss the clinical, radiologic, and histopathologic features of this case as well as the removal of this unusual lesion by Doppler ultrasound-guided surgery. To the best of our knowledge, no other case of a fibro-osseous lesion in the retropharyngeal area has been reported in the literature. 相似文献

Fibrous dysplasia is an uncommon benign bone disorder of unknown origin. It rarely affects the temporal bone. We report a case of fibrous dysplasia of the temporal bone with cholesteatoma in the external auditory canal, the first complaint of which was left otorrhea. Fibrous dysplasia invaded the external ear canal, stenosis of which causes a cholesteatoma. Mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, and meatoplasty were performed. We discuss the characteristics of this condition, its differential diagnosis and its treatment. 相似文献

Fibrous dysplasia represents a disturbance of normal bone development specifically a defect in osteoblastic differentiation
and maturation that originates in the mesenchymal precursor of the bone. In fibrous dysplasia, the lesion expands, which leads
to a distortion and weakening of bone. Although the lesion is not encapsulated, it tends to remain enclosed within a shell
of cortical bone. This shell can be thinned as a result of the pressure exerted on it. As it slowly progresses, fibrous dysplasia
can cause skeletal destruction and deformity. 相似文献

Symptoms at first onset and on initial examination were analyzed in 845 patients with maxillary sinus carcinoma. About 20-30 per cent of the patients became aware of swelling of cheek, nasal obstruction, nasal discharge and epistaxis as first symptoms. About 50-80 per cent of the patients complained of such symptoms on initial examination. Symptoms of maxillary sinus carcinoma are similar to those of chronic sinusitis which results in a delay in diagnosis. Such symptoms should be recognized to improve survival rate. CT and MRI scans are useful for early diagnosis and determination of tumour extension. Sinoscopy with biopsy is most important to detect the earliest tumour stage. 相似文献
