The talon cusp is a relatively rare dental developmental anomaly characterised by cusp-like projections, usually observed on the lingual surface of the affected tooth. Normal enamel covers the cusp and fuses with the lingual aspect of the tooth. The cusp may or may not contain an extension of the pulp. This occurs in either maxillary or mandibular anterior teeth in both the primary and permanent dentition. This study reports the unusual case of a 47-year-old female with a taloned tooth on the right maxillary central incisor possessing both lingual and labial talons, with an x-shaped appearance when viewed occlusally.  相似文献

Orofacial amyloidosis is an extremely rare and generally a benign condition. In contrast to systemic amyloidosis, other organs are not involved; however, extensive investigations are recommended to intercept any systemic involvement. Diagnosis is confirmed by histological examination and Congo red staining. This condition does not have a known etiology, and hence no general consensus exists regarding its management. We are presenting a case of a 65‐year‐old female patient with orofacial amyloidosis having ocular and extensive oral involvement.  相似文献

Accidental swallowing and aspiration of dental prostheses is not uncommon and has been reported frequently in the literature. The location of a swallowed or aspirated dental prosthesis often is accomplished radiographically but this is difficult with prostheses constructed entirely of acrylic resins. A case report of an elderly patient who swallowed a removable partial denture is reviewed.  相似文献

Dens in dente is the result of an invagination of the enamel organ into the developing dental papilla. The full pathologic potential of this lesion is often not fully appreciated. A case is reported in which a cyst resulting from a dens in dente obliterated the maxillary sinus and necessitated root canal therapy and apicoectomies in four adjacent teeth.  相似文献

A postoperative maxillary cyst is a rare, delayed complication of operations on the maxillary sinus, trauma. or infection, particularly in Japan. As far as we know this is the first reported case in a patient of African origin. The cyst presented as a midline palatal swelling that arose from the nasal, rather than the antral, mucosa. Awareness of this condition will expedite its correct diagnosis and management. In most cases, enuclcation is the treatment of choice.  相似文献

Zygomycosis is a rare fungal infection usually found in immunocompromised patients. It is a rapidly progressing infection with a high mortality rate. Our report describes an unusual case of rhinofacial zygomycosis due to Cunninghamella sp. in an immunocompetent patient, who presented with a slowly progressive swelling of the left cheek. An interrupted course of amphotericin B treatment caused regression of the lesion. Drug therapy was abandoned due to impairment of renal function. The patient was clinically and radiologically disease free for 2 years following cessation of therapy.  相似文献

A 13-year-old boy who complained rapid swelling on the left side of mandible is presented. Histopathological examination revealed ossifying fibromyxoid tumor (OFMT). OFMT is a rare soft-tissue neoplasm that occurs usually in the subcutaneous tissue of the extremties. Head and neck involvement is relatively rare. In this case, we present the diagnosis, surgical treatment and long-term follow-up of an OFMT due to its unusual site of occurrence. The precise clinical behavior of atypical and malignant types of OFMTs is still unclear. Thus, histopathology report is important, leading surgeon to decide how often and how long to follow-up patient with OFMT.  相似文献
