Purpose

Our aim was to characterize the effect of an unfamiliar high-fat diet (HFD) on circadian feeding behaviour, plasma parameters, body weight (BW), and gene expression in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of adolescent male mice. To this end, mice were allowed to consume a HFD during 48 h, but one group was allowed a free choice of HFD or normal chow (FC-HFD), while the other was restricted to a non-optional unfamiliar HFD feeding (NOP-HFD).

Methods

Energy intake was monitored at 6-h intervals during 48 h. Mice cohorts were killed at 6-h intervals after 48-h dietary treatment, and PFC samples dissected for RT-PCR analysis.

Results

Mice on the FC-HFD protocol avoided eating the standard chow, showed lower energy intake and lower BW increase than NOP-HFD mice. All animals with access to HFD exhibited nocturnal overeating, but diurnal hyperphagia was more prominent in the FC-HFD cohort. A robust increase in tyrosine hydroxylase (Th) gene expression was detected specifically during the light period of the circadian cycle in FC-HFD mice. In contrast, both protocols similarly up-regulated the expression of cytosolic malic enzyme (Me1), which is very sensitive to HFD.

Conclusion

Our data show that the PFC participates in driving motivational feeding during HFD-evoked hyperphagia and also suggest that sensory neural pathways might be relevant for the onset of eating disorders and overweight. Moreover, we have observed that animals that had the possibility of choosing between standard chow and HFD were more hyperphagic and specifically displayed an overexpression of the tyrosine hydroxylase gene.

Purpose

Autophagy and apoptosis play critical roles in both development and tissue homeostasis in response to (patho)physiological stimuli, such as high-fat diet (HFD) and endurance training (ET). Therefore, we aimed to investigate how ET modulates autophagy and apoptotic-related signaling in visceral adipose tissue of long-standing HFD-fed rats.

Methods

The study was conducted over a 17-week period on Sprague–Dawley rats, which were divided into four groups (n = 8/group): standard diet sedentary (STD+SED), high-fat diet sedentary (HFD+SED), standard diet ET (STD+ET) and high-fat diet ET (HFD+ET). After 9 weeks of dietary regimens, ET groups were trained for 8 weeks on treadmill (5 days/week at 25 m/min for 60 min/day), while maintaining dietary regimens. Autophagy and apoptotic-signaling markers in epididymal white adipose tissue (eWAT) were determined using RT-qPCR, Western blot and spectrometry techniques.

Results

ET reduced body weight, visceral fat mass and HOMA-IR in standard and HF diet-fed animals. Moreover, ET reverted the HFD-induced increases in the percentage of larger adipocytes and also reduced the percentage of smaller adipocytes. The HFD decreased pre-adipocyte factor 1 (DLK1/PREF1) and increased the pro-apoptotic markers (Bax protein and caspase 3-like activity), while having no impact on autophagy markers. However, ET increased DLK1/PREF1 and Bcl-2 in both diet types, while decreasing Bax and caspases 9, 8 and 3-like activities in HFD feeding rats. Additionally, Beclin-1 and p62 protein significantly increased in ET groups of both diet types.

Conclusions

Data demonstrate that 8 weeks of ET was effective in attenuating apoptotic-related signaling in long-standing HFD-fed rats. Moreover, HFD and ET had no impact on VAT autophagy markers.

Objectives

The diet and lifestyle affect our life. Inadequate nutrition can cause various diseases including cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to show the correlations between the fruit and vegetable diet and high signal resolution pulse wave parameters.

Design

This was an observational study.

Settings

The study was done during two-weeks rehabilitation treatment.

Participants

In this study 154 people using the fruit and vegetable diet have been examined.

Measurements

The participants were monitored using a new diagnostic method high signal resolution pulseoximetry (HSR-PW). They were examined two times: before starting the diet and after two weeks of using it. The high signal resolution pulse wave and its characteristic parameters have been compared.

Results

Analyzing the research results at the beginning and after two weeks of using this diet, the improvement of selected parameters has been noticed. With the improvement in the pulse wave was observed weight loss, improved blood counts (e.g. cholesterol, triglycerides) as well as decreased blood pressure particularly in people with treated hypertension.

Conclusions

The study shows that applied fruit and vegetable diet influenced favorably the people using it and contributed to the improvement of the HSR-PW parameters which are the source of information about the state of the cardiovascular system.

Objectives

Effect of 3 different dairy protein sources on the recovery of muscle function after limb immobilization in old rats.

Design

Longitudinal animal study.

Setting

Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA). The study took part in a laboratory setting.

Intervention

Old rats were subjected to unilateral hindlimb immobilization for 8 days and then allowed to recover with 3 different dietary proteins: casein, soluble milk proteins or whey proteins for 49 days.

Measurements

Body weight, muscle mass, muscle fibre size, isometric, isokinetic torque, muscle fatigability and muscle oxidative status were measured before and at the end of the immobilization period and during the recovery period i.e 7, 21, 35 and 49 days post immobilization.

Results

In contrast to the casein diet, soluble milk proteins and whey proteins were efficient to favor muscle mass recovery after cast immobilization during aging. By contrast, none of the 3 diary proteins was able to improve muscle strength, power and fatigability showing a discrepancy between the recovery of muscle mass and function. However, the soluble milk proteins allowed a better oxidative capacity in skeletal muscle during the rehabilitation period.

Conclusion

Whey proteins and soluble milk proteins improve muscle mass recovery after immobilization-induced muscle atrophy in old rats but do not allow muscle functional property restoration.

Objective

Older women have frequently low serum 25-hydroxivitamin D (25[OH]D) concentrations, high parathormone (PTH) levels and low bone mineral density (BMD) values. Endogenous synthesis, dietary habits, sunlight exposure and fat-mass-mediated storage may influence 25(OH)D levels and bone metabolism, but the relevance of these factors in the elderly has yet to be fully elucidated. We aimed to investigate the influence of dietary vitamin D intake and fat mass on serum 25(OH)D levels and bone metabolism in older women.

Design

Cross-sectional.

Setting

Community.

Participants

218 fit older women attending a biweekly mild fitness program.

Measurements

Dietary habits was investigated through a 3-day record questionnaire. Serum 25(OH)D and intact parathormone (PTH) concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay and by a 2-step immunoradiometric assay, respectively. BMD and body composition were estimated using dualenergy X-ray absorptiometry with fan-beam technology.

Results

Only fat mass showed a significant negative association with 25(OH)D (β=-3.76, p<0.001), and positive associations with whole body, lumbar, femoral neck and total hip BMD. Binary logistic analysis revealed a protective effect of adiposity on secondary hyperparathyroidism (OR=0.42, 95%CI:0.19-0.92, p=0.03). Dietary vitamin D intake was not associated to any of these outcomes.

Conclusion

Fat mass has a greater influence on serum 25(OH)D than dietary vitamin D intake.

Objective

The present study aimed to determine whether Irisin levels are correlated with body composition changes following 16 weeks of resistance training (RT) in older women with and without obesity.

Design, Setting, Participants, Intervention

We recruited 49 inactive women (n = 23, non-obese: < 41.0% and n = 26, obese: ≥ 41.0% of body fat) aged 61–68 years to perform 16-week of RT consisting of 10 exercises (three sets of 10 exercises, 6-12 repetitions maximum and 1-min and 30-s rest intervals between sets and exercises, respectively) with two sessions per week.

Measurements

Before and after the intervention period, blood samples were collected to determine Irisin levels and body composition (percentage body fat and fat-free mass) was measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry.

Results

Circulating Irisin displayed a decrease for the non-obese group as compared with pre-intervention and obese group (p = 0.01 and p = 0.04, respectively), with no change for the obese group (p = 0.79). In addition, fat mass displayed a significant reduction (p < 0.05) following the training period only for the obese group. Furthermore, there was no association between changes in circulating Irisin with body mass index, body fat, fat-free mass and muscle strength. There was an increase in muscle strength (p < 0.05), regardless of obesity status.

Conclusion

The modulation of body composition and muscle strength induced by 16-week of resistance training in older women with and without obesity is not associated with changes in circulating Irisin levels.

Purpose

Obese individuals have higher production of reactive oxygen species, which leads to oxidative damage. We hypothesize that cranberry extract (CE) can improve this dysfunction in HFD-induced obesity in rats since it has an important antioxidant activity. Here, we evaluated the effects of CE in food intake, adiposity, biochemical and hormonal parameters, lipogenic and adipogenic factors, hepatic morphology and oxidative balance in a HFD model.

Methods

At postnatal day 120 (PN120), male Wistar rats were assigned into two groups: (1) SD (n = 36) fed with a standard diet and (2) HFD (n = 36), fed with a diet containing 44.5% (35.2% from lard) energy from fat. At PN150, 12 animals from SD and HFD groups were killed while the others were subdivided into four groups (n = 12/group): animals that received 200 mg/kg cranberry extract (SD CE, HFD CE) gavage/daily/30 days or water (SD, HFD). At PN180, animals were killed.

Results

HFD group showed higher body mass and visceral fat, hypercorticosteronemia, higher liver glucocorticoid sensitivity, cholesterol and triglyceride contents and microsteatosis. Also, HFD group had higher lipid peroxidation (plasma and tissues) and higher protein carbonylation (liver and adipose tissue) compared to SD group. HFD CE group showed lower body mass gain, hypotrygliceridemia, hypocorticosteronemia, and lower hepatic cholesterol and fatty acid synthase contents. HFD CE group displayed lower lipid peroxidation, protein carbonylation (liver and adipose tissue) and accumulation of liver fat compared to HFD group.

Conclusion

Although adiposity was not completely reversed, cranberry extract improved the metabolic profile and reduced oxidative damage and steatosis in HFD-fed rats, which suggests that it can help manage obesity-related disorders.

Objectives

To investigate the effect of 20 g protein with breakfast and evening meal on muscle mass, muscle strength and functional performance in older adults.

Design

A double-blinded randomized controlled study.

Setting

Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, Norway.

Participants

Healthy community-dwelling men and women (≥ 70 years) with reduced physical strength and/or performance.

Intervention

Subjects were randomly assigned to receive either protein-enriched milk (2 x 0.4 L/d; protein group) or an isocaloric carbohydrate drink (2 x 0.4 L/d; control group) with breakfast and evening meal for 12 weeks.

Measurements

The primary endpoints were muscle mass measured by dual X-ray absorptiometry, and tests of muscle strength (one repetition maximum test of chest press and leg press) and functional performance (handgrip strength, stair climb and repeated chair rise).

Results

In total, 438 subjects were screened, 50 subjects were randomized and 36 completed the study. Chest press improved significantly in the protein (1.3 kg (0.1-2.5), p=0.03) and the control group (1.5 kg (0.0-3.0), p=0.048), but with no difference between the groups (p=0.85). No significant change in leg press (p=0.93) or muscle mass (p=0.54) were observed between the protein and the control group. Nor did we observe any significant differences in the functional performance tests (p>0.05 for all tests) between the groups.

Conclusion

Increased protein intake (2 x 20 g/d) did not significantly improve muscle mass, muscle strength or functional performance in healthy older weight stable adults. Whether intake of > 20 g protein to each meal is necessary for preservation of muscle mass and strength in older adults should be further investigated in a larger study. This underscores the need for well-designed studies that can differentiate between the effect of protein intake and increased energy. This trial was registered at Clinicaltrials.gov (ID no. NCT02218333).

Objectives

To compare the effects of two nutritional follow-up interventions with regard to preventing short-term deterioration in ADL, and to compare their effects on physical function, emotional health, and health-related quality of life.

Design

Randomized clinical trial with two intervention groups and one control group, and a follow-up period of eight weeks.

Setting

Intervention in the participants’ homes after discharge from hospital.

Participants

Inclusion: Malnourished geriatric patients and patients at risk of malnutrition (MNA<24), aged 75 years and older, living at home and alone.

Exclusion

Nursing home residents and patients with terminal illnesses or cognitive impairment.

Randomization

At discharge, the patients were assigned to one of three groups: ‘home visit’, ‘telephone consultation’, or ‘control’ group.

Intervention

Individually tailored nutritional counselling of the patient and the patient’s daily home carer by a clinical dietician one, two, and four weeks after discharge from hospital. The counselling was either in-person at the patients’ homes, or by telephone. The control group received no follow-up after discharge.

Measurements

Primary outcome: Change in ADL (Barthel-100 score) at discharge and eight weeks later.

Secondary outcomes

Change in physical performance (handgrip strength, 30-sec. chair stand test, CAS), quality of life and depression measurements (SF-36, Depression List, Geriatric Depression Score), and Avlund mobility-tiredness score (Mob-T).

Results

Two-hundred and eight participants were randomized, 73 to home visits and 68 to telephone consultations. The control group comprised 67 patients. The mean age of the participants was 86.1 years. At eight weeks after discharge, 157 completed the follow-up (home visit 52, telephone consultation 51, and control group 54). The mean age of these patients was 85.8 years. More patients in the home visit group improved or maintained their ADL (96%), compared to the telephone (75%) and control groups (72%), p<0.01. No difference was detected among the groups with regard to physical measurements, health-related quality of life, and emotional health.

Conclusion

Early nutritional follow-up after discharge, performed as home visits, prevents deterioration of ADL in malnourished, independent, geriatric patients who live alone and thereby preserves their independence.

Objectives

Examine the effects of a 24-week exercise intervention against a social intervention on body weight, body mass index (BMI) and nutritional status in PWD living in nursing homes.

Design

Randomized controlled trial.

Participants

Ninety-one older people with dementia living in nursing homes. Interventions: Exercise (n=44) or social-based activities (n=47), taking place twice per week, for 60 minutes/session, during 24 weeks.

Measurements

Nutritional status was measured with the mini-nutritional assessment (MNA), weight and BMI.

Results

After the 24-week intervention, none of MNA (B-coeff. 1.28; 95% CI -2.55 to 0.02), weight (-0.06; -1.58 to 1.45) and BMI (-0.05; -0.85 to 0.74) differed significantly between groups after adjustment for multiplicity. In the social group, MNA significantly improved while it remained stable in the exercise group. The percentage of at-risk and malnourished patients reduced in both groups by more than 6%.

Conclusion

The results suggest that social activities have as good effects as exercise activities on nutritional status in PWD nursing home residents.

Objective

To investigate the effects of nutritional intervention with resistance training on skeletal muscle mass in elderly patients with disabilities in a convalescent rehabilitation setting.

Design

A randomized controlled trial. (UMIN Clinical Trials Registry ID: UMIN000006238).

Setting

A rehabilitation hospital.

Participants

39 elderly patients with decreased skeletal muscle mass in an inpatient convalescence rehabilitation unit.

Interventions

A combination of resistance training plus nutritional supplementation (R/N group) or resistance training alone (R group). The training and supplementation were conducted essentially from the patient’s admission to discharge (2–6 months).

Outcome Measures

The patients were evaluated at the time of admission and at the end of the intervention for skeletal muscle mass (calf circumference [CC] as a primary outcome, and arm circumference [AC]), hand grip strength (HG), Mini-Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA®-SF) score, serum albumin level (Alb), body mass index (BMI), and activities of daily living (ADL) as represented by the Barthel Index (BI) score.

Results

Significant treatment effects were seen for CC, AC, BI, Alb in the R/N group compared to the R group. A mean treatment effect of 3.2 (95%CI: 2.0–4.4) was seen in CC, 1.4 (95%CI: 0.8–2.1) was seen in AC, 11.2 (95%CI: 0.5–21.8) was seen in BI, 0.3 (95%CI: 0.1–0.5) was seen in Alb.

Conclusion

The results of this study suggest that nutritional intervention added to resistance training during convalescent rehabilitation may improve skeletal muscle mass and activities of daily living.

Objectives

Previous studies found that tea consumption was related to a reduction in the risks of some chronic diseases, but limited data are available on bone health. This study aimed to examine the associations of tea consumption with hip bone strength in Chinese women.

Design

Cross-sectional study.

Setting

The participants were from the ongoing Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study. This was a cohort study started in 2008. The examination data conducted between June 2010 and December 2013 were used.

Participants

A total of 1,495 Chinese women aged more than 40 years were included.

Measurements

Tea consumption, sociodemographic information and lifestyle habits were collected by a face-to-face questionnaire. Hip bone mineral density (BMD) and geometric parameters, i.e. cross-sectional area (CSA), section modulus (Z) and buckling ratio (BR), were generated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The associations of tea consumption with bone phenotypes were detected by analysis of covariance and multiple linear regression models after adjusting for age, body mass index, years since menopause, physical activity, dietary-protein intake, dietary-calcium intake, calcium tablet intake, drinking status and smoking status.

Results

Tea drinkers (n = 732) had approximately 1.9% higher BMD (p < 0.05) and 3.6% lower BR (p < 0.05) than non-tea drinkers (n = 763). The dose-response relationships of BMD, BR or CSA with total tea consumption were identified (p-trend < 0.05). Tea drinking was found to be a significant and independent predictor of BMD (β = 0.068, p < 0.05) or BR (β = -0.079, p < 0.05).

Conclusion

Tea consumption was associated with increased bone strength in middle-aged and elderly Chinese women.

Objectives

To investigate the effect of a long-term fatty fish intervention on a pure cognitive mechanism important for self-regulation and mental health, i.e. working memory (WM), controlling for age and IQ.

Design

A randomized controlled trial.

Setting

A forensic facility.

Participants

Eighty-four young to middle aged male forensic inpatients with psychiatric disorders.

Intervention

Consumption of farmed salmon or control meal (meat) three times a week during 23 weeks.

Measurement

Performance on WM tasks, both accuracy and mean reaction time, were recorded pre and post intervention.

Results

Performance on a cognitive functioning tasks taxing WM seemed to be explained by age and IQ.

Conclusion

Fatty fish consumption did not improve WM performance in a group of young to middle aged adults with mental health problems, as less impressionable factors such as aging and intelligence seemed to be the key components. The present study improves the knowledge concerning the interaction among nutrition, health and the aging process.

Objectives

To explore the feasibility and acceptability of a new home-based exercise technology among older adults and to evaluate its efficacy on physical performance measures.

Design

Longitudinal clinical trial.

Setting

Oak Hammock at the University of Florida, a nursing home located in Gainesville, Florida.

Participants

Twelve pre-disabled older adults (≥75 years) living in a nursing home with a Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) score between 6 and 9 and no diagnosis of dementia.

Intervention

Thirty minutes of light intensity exercise (aerobic, strength and balance) two times per week for four weeks using a home-based physical activity technology called Jintronix.

Measurements

Feasibility and acceptability were assessed through a 9-item self-administered questionnaire and by exploring the percentage of quality of movements and time performing exercise which was calculated automatically by Jintronix technology. Physical performance measures were assessed through the SPPB score at baseline, after 4 weeks of intervention and after 3 months from the completion of the intervention.

Results

Twelve older adults (80.5±4.2 years old) performed light intensity exercise with Jintronix for a total of 51.9±7.9 minutes per week. Participants reached 87% score of quality of movements in strength and balance exercises, a global appreciation score of 91.7% and a global difficulty score of 36%. Compared to baseline, there was a significant improvement in SPPB score at the end of the intervention and at 3 months following the completion of the exercise program (0.67±0.98 and 1.08±0.99 respectively, p-value <0.05).

Conclusion

Jintronix technology is feasible and acceptable among pre-disabled older adults without dementia living in nursing home and is beneficial in improving their physical performance.

Background

Suicide is a leading cause of death among youth. Suicide screening programs aim to identify mental health issues and prevent death by suicide.

Objective

The present study evaluated outcomes of a multi-stage screening program implemented over 3 school years in a moderately-sized Midwestern high school.

Methods

One hundred ninety-three 9th-grade students were screened in the program. Students who screened positive were referred to mental health services and followed. Suicide-related thoughts and behaviors among 9th-grade students in the school with screening were compared to those of students in a similar school without screening.

Results

There was a significant increase in utilization of mental health services among students who screened positive and a decrease in rates of suicidal ideation and attempts among 9th-grade students at the school with screening.

Conclusions

This multi-stage screening program shows promise in addressing suicide-related behaviors in schools. Randomized trials are needed to confirm program efficacy.

Objectives

Intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and postnatal nutrition are risk factors for adult metabolic syndrome. However, the influences of long-term high-fat diet (HFD) intake on ectopic fat deposition in non-adipose tissues in IUGR pigs remain unclear. The present study was to determine whether HFD consumption would enhance ectopic fat deposition in IUGR pigs.

Methods

At day 28, IUGR and control pigs were fed ad libitum to either a regular diet or a HFD. Lipid store, enzymatic activities and mRNA expression of lipid metabolism-related factors in liver and semitendinosus muscle (SM) were quantified at postnatal day 178.

Results

Feeding a HFD to IUGR pigs but not to control pigs significantly increased daily weight gain, carcass fat mass, plasma leptin level and lipid content and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity and mRNA abundances of LPL and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) in liver and SM, but decreased daily feed intake and mRNA expression of hormone-sensitive lipase (LIPE) and carnitine palmitoyl transferase-1 (CPT-1) in liver and SM (P < 0.05). Compared with control pigs, IUGR pigs had a lower body weight but higher plasma levels of total cholesterol (TC) and insulin (P < 0.05). HFD-fed pigs exhibited greater body weight, plasma concentrations of triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), regardless of birth weight (P < 0.05).

Conclusion

Our results suggested that IUGR increased the vulnerability of HFD-fed pigs to ectopic fat deposition via enhanced fatty acid flux toward ectopic sites and reduced lipolysis and fatty acid oxidation.

Objectives

To examine the associations of dietary variety with body composition and physical function in community-dwelling elderly Japanese

Design

Cross-sectional study.

Setting

Community-based.

Participants

A total of 1184 community-dwelling elderly adults aged 65 and over.

Measurements

Dietary variety was assessed with a food frequency questionnaire (maximum, 10 points) that encompassed the 10 main food components of Japanese meals (meat, fish/shellfish, eggs, milk, soybean products, green/yellow vegetables, potatoes, fruit, seaweed, and fats/oils). Body composition was determined by multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis. Physical function was assessed by measuring grip strength and usual walking speed. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine the associations of dietary variety with body composition and physical function.

Results

After adjusting for potential confounders, higher dietary variety scores were independently associated with higher lean mass (β (SE): 0.176 (0.049), p<0.001) and appendicular lean mass (β (SE): 0.114 (0.027), p<0.001) but not with body fat mass. Elders with a higher dietary variety score had greater grip strength and faster usual walking speed (β (SE): 0.204 (0.071), p=0.004, and β (SE): 0.008 (0.003), p=0.012, respectively).

Conclusion

Greater dietary variety was significantly associated with greater lean mass and better physical function in Japanese elders. The causal relationship warrants investigation in a prospective study.

Background

Based on the pro-drug principle, aspirin and eugenol were esterified to synthesize aspirin eugenol ester (AEE). The anti-hyperlipidemia effect of aspirin eugenol ester has been confirmed in hyperlipidemic rat induced by high fat diet (HFD). However, its effect on liver and feces metabonomic profiles remains unknown.

Methods

Suspension of AEE was prepared in 5% carboxymethyl cellulose sodium (CMC-Na). Thirty rats were divided into control, model and AEE groups. The control and model rats were fed with normal diet or HFD for 13 weeks, respectively. Rats in AEE-treated group were fed with HFD for 8 weeks to induce hyperlipidemia, and then given AEE once daily by oral gavage for 5 weeks at the dosage of 54 mg/kg body weight. After drug intervention, lipid profile analysis and oil red O staining were carried out to confirm the lipid accumulation in liver tissue. UPLC-Q-TOF/MS-based liver and feces metabonomics coupled with pathway analysis were conducted to evaluate the changes of metabolic profile and endogenous metabolites.

Results

In liver tissue, oral administration of AEE significantly reduced lipid droplets and the levels of triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Using principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares-discriminate analysis (PLS-DA), distinct changes in metabolite patterns in feces and liver were observed. Liver and feces samples in control, model and AEE groups were scattered in PLS-DA score plots. 28 metabolites in liver and 22 in feces were identified as potential biomarkers related to hyperlipidemia. As possible drug targets, the perturbations of those biomarkers can be regulated by administration of AEE.

Conclusion

Anti-hyperlipidemia effect of AEE was confirmed by lipid analysis, oil red O staining and metabolomics analysis. The mechanism of AEE might be associated with the changes in the metabolism of glycerophospholipid, amino acid, fatty acid, sphingolipid, purine, bile acid and glutathione.
