Objective

This study had for aim to assess pneumococcal vaccination rates in hospitalized patients.

Design

A prospective study was carried out in two medical wards of the Nice University Hospital, France. Patients were included from December 31, 2007 to February 12, 2008.

Results

Hundred and thirty-seven patients, aged 62 ± 20 years, were included. Pneumococcal vaccination was indicated for 62 patients (45 %). Among these 62 patients, 53 (85 %) had not been vaccinated in the previous 5 years, for the following reasons: no medical advice on vaccination (36 cases), no medical consultation in the past years (nine cases), patient opposed to vaccination (two cases), physician opposed to vaccination (one case), miscellaneous (five cases). Among the 53 patients, seven were vaccinated during their hospital stay and 13 were advised to be vaccinated by their general practitioner.

Conclusions

This study highlights a low rate of pneumococcal vaccination in hospitalized patients, mainly due to insufficient counseling from physicians, both in community or in hospital practice.  相似文献

Background

Every year, 15 to 20 tetanus cases are reported in France. The latest national figures showed that only 62 % of adults were up-to-date for this vaccination. We tried to determine the factors associated with vaccination coverage and with knowledge of vaccination status.

Methods

We analyzed data from the “Santé et Protection sociale” survey (2002). We analyzed the association between factors and tetanus vaccination coverage. We then explored the association between these factors and knowledge of vaccination status.

Results

Two demographic variables were only associated with vaccination coverage (higher coverage in male individuals and in individuals living in some regions of the country). Two socioeconomic variables were only associated with knowledge of vaccination status (higher knowledge in people from high income families and in managers/private professionals and in office workers). Coverage and status awareness both decreased with lower education level, in residents of large urban centers and in individuals without private medical insurance, and these two indicators were both associated to age but in an opposite direction.

Conclusion

Factors influencing vaccination coverage are rather demographic, whereas socioeconomic factors seem to influence more the knowledge of vaccination status. This distinction should help to target public health actions and adapt information for the least covered and the least informed groups.  相似文献

Background

Influenza vaccination has been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality in the older adult population. In Canada, vaccination rates remain suboptimal. We identified factors predictive of influenza vaccination, in order to determine which segments of the older adult population might be targeted to increase coverage in influenza vaccination programs.  相似文献

Objectives

Little is known about fathers’ attitudes toward human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in low-resource settings. We sought to determine the awareness of HPV vaccination among Honduran fathers, and to assess their intention to accept HPV vaccination for their sons and daughters.  相似文献

Background

Although routine vaccination is a major tool in the primary prevention of some infectious diseases, there is some reluctance in a proportion of the population. Negative parental perceptions of vaccination are an important barrier to paediatric vaccination. The aim of this study was to investigate parental knowledge of paediatric vaccines and vaccination in Catalonia.  相似文献

Background

Previous smallpox ring vaccination models based on contact tracing over a network suggest that ring vaccination would be effective, but have not explicitly included response logistics and limited numbers of vaccinators.  相似文献

Background

The optimum age for measles vaccination varies from country to country and thus a standardized vaccination schedule is controversial. While the increase in measles vaccination coverage has produced significant changes in the epidemiology of infection, vaccination schedules have not been adjusted. Instead, measures to cut wild-type virus transmission through mass vaccination campaigns have been instituted. This study estimates the presence of measles antibodies among six- and nine-month-old children and assesses the current vaccination seroconversion by using a non invasive method in Maputo City, Mozambique.  相似文献

Background

Following the emergence of the influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus, the French ministry of health decided to offer free vaccination against pandemic influenza to the entire French population. Groups of people were defined and prioritised for vaccination.  相似文献

Background

The rate of influenza vaccination in Japan has declined over the past several decades. It is essential to identify community-specific factors that affect attitudes toward vaccination, but such parameters have not yet been fully determined in Japan. The present study used the Health Belief Model (HBM) to identify perceptions of influenza vaccination in a rural Japanese community.  相似文献

Background

Recent trends in global vaccination coverage have shown increases with most countries reaching 90% DTP3 coverage in 2008, although pockets of undervaccination continue to persist in parts of sub-Saharan Africa particularly in the urban slums. The objectives of this study were to determine the vaccination status of children aged between 12-23 months living in two slums of Nairobi and to identify the risk factors associated with incomplete vaccination.  相似文献

Background

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for healthcare workers (HCWs) in order to reduce the morbidity associated with influenza in healthcare settings. The aim of this study was to evaluate the current vaccination status of the HCWs in one of Italy's largest multidisciplinary University Hospitals.  相似文献

Background

Parents' reported ambivalence toward large-scale vaccination programs for childhood diseases may be related to their perception of the risks of side-effects or safety of vaccination and the risk of contracting the disease. The aim of this study is to evaluate parents' perceptions of their child's risk contracting a Meningococcal C infection and parents' perceived control in preventing infection in relation to their evaluation of the safety, effectiveness and usefulness of vaccination.  相似文献

Background

Influenza is among the most common infectious diseases. The main protection against influenza is vaccination. A self-administered questionnaire was developed and validated for use in clinical trials to assess subjects' perception and acceptance of influenza vaccination and its subsequent injection site reactions (ISR).  相似文献

Background

Improving immunisation rates in risk groups is one of the main objectives in vaccination strategies. However, achieving high vaccination rates in children with chronic conditions is difficult. Different types of vaccine providers may differently attract high risk children.  相似文献

Objectives

The study's objective was to evaluate with a standardized questionnaire the knowledge of healthcare workers (HCWs) regarding occupational vaccinations and their vaccination coverage.

Population and Methods

This cross-sectional survey was conducted in the department of infectious diseases of a 1796 bed-teaching hospital in Dijon, France.

Results

Fifty-seven (93%) out of 61 HCPs completed the questionnaire. Vaccination against HVB was the most frequently mentioned vaccination (79%), followed by BCG (66%), and combine vaccine against diphteria, tetanus, and polio (DTP) (66 %). Influenza was the most often quoted among recommended vaccinations (70%), followed by measles (61%), pertussis (39%), and varicella (14%). The number of correct answers was significantly correlated with age of participants, being a physician, and having had courses on vaccination. Almost all HCPs were up to date for mandatory vaccinations. In 2009 to 2010, vaccination rates against seasonal flu and H1N1 flu reached 88%. Only 52% of HCPs knew about their pertussis immunization and only a third of those born before 1980 had been tested for measles.

Conclusions

HCPs knowledge of mandatory vaccinations is adequate but more limited for recommended vaccinations. Information on influenza vaccination has significantly improved its perception among HCPs resulting in a better adhesion to vaccination.  相似文献

Background

A recently updated Cochrane systematic review on the effects of lay or community health workers (LHWs) in primary and community health care concluded that LHW interventions could lead to promising benefits in the promotion of childhood vaccination uptake. However, understanding of the costs and cost-effectiveness of involving LHWs in vaccination programmes remains poor. This paper reviews the costs and cost-effectiveness of vaccination programme interventions involving LHWs.  相似文献

Objective

The aim of this research is to investigate the perspective of citizens of Nepal on the management COVID-19, the roll-out of the vaccine, and to gain an understanding of attitudes towards the governments' handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Method

A qualitative methodology was used. In-depth interviews were conducted with 18 males and 23 females aged between 20 and 86 years old from one remote and one urban district of Nepal. Interviews were conducted in November and December 2021. A thematic approach was used to analyse the data, utilising NVivo 12 data management software.

Result

Three major themes were identified: (1) Peoples' perspective on the management of COVID-19, (2) people's perception of the management of COVID-19 vaccination and (3) management and dissemination of information. It was found that most participants had heard of COVID-19 and its mitigation measures, however, the majority had limited understanding and knowledge about the disease. Most participants expressed their disappointment concerning poor testing, quarantine, vaccination campaigns and poor accountability from the government towards the management of COVID-19. Misinformation and stigma were reported as the major factors contributing to the spread of COVID-19. People's knowledge and understanding were mainly shaped by the quality of the information they received from various sources of communication and social media. This heavily influenced their response to the pandemic, the preventive measures they followed and their attitude towards vaccination.

Conclusion

Our study concludes that the study participants' perception was that testing, quarantine centres and vaccination campaigns were poorly managed in both urban and rural settings in Nepal. Since people's knowledge and understanding of COVID-19 are heavily influenced by the quality of information they receive, we suggest providing contextualised correct information through a trusted channel regarding the pandemic, its preventive measures and vaccination. This study recommends that the government proactively involve grassroots-level volunteers like Female Community Health Volunteers to effectively prepare for future pandemics.

Patient and Public Contribution

This study was based on in-depth interviews with 41 people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. This study would not have been possible without their participation.  相似文献
