This article presents information on considerations involved in setting up and conducting fellowship training programs in emergency medicine (EM) for physicians from other countries. General goals for these programs are to assist in providing physicians from other countries with the knowledge and skills needed to further develop EM in their home countries. The authors report their opinions, based on their cumulative extensive experiences, on the necessary and optional structural elements to consider for international EM fellowship programs. Because of U.S. medical licensing restrictions, much of the proposed programs' content would be "observational" rather than involving direct "hands-on" clinical EM training. Due to the very recent initiation of these programs in the United States, there has not yet been reported any scientific evaluation of their structure or efficacy. International EM fellowship programs involving mainly observational EM experience can serve as one method to assist in EM development in other countries. Future studies should assess the impact and efficacy of these programs. 相似文献

This study of epistemological intention is about King's goal achievement theory and its contributions on knowledge and practicing for nurses who work in the "Family Health" Program (FHP), Brazil. The analysis component, based on the Meleis' Method of Theory Analysis concerning critical thought on the theory, was applied as well as reading and thoughts on FHP guidelines and proposals in order to verify the interface between the two paradigms in the study. The outcome of the study proves that the two approaching proposals are coherent. Such coherence drives authors to recommend the adoption of King's teachings concerning FHP practice for nursing to obtain greater and better results in its actions. 相似文献

AbstractThe aim of this study was to assess the value of transrectal sonourethrography in the diagnosis of dysuria after bipolar transurethral plasmakinetic prostatectomy (TUPKP). Seventy-seven male patients with dysuria after TUPKP underwent transrectal sonourethrography. The clinical data were then compared with the surgical outcomes. The following pathologies were diagnosed: Bladder neck atresia (17/77), bladder orifice strictures (15/77), membranous urethral strictures (21/77), pars cavernosa urethral stricture (12/77), residual prostate gland (5/77), external urethral orifice stricture (2/77), calculi in the prostatic urethra (2/77), flap in the internal urethral orifice (2/77), and postoperative dysfunction of the bladder detrusor muscle (1/77). Transrectal sonourethrography is a reliable diagnostic method for numerous pathologies that occur in patients with dysuria after TUPKP and is a clinically useful tool. 相似文献

Program evaluation in preparation for accreditation provides opportunities for the identification of program strengths, weaknesses, and improvement potential. In the present study, naturalistic inquiry, an evaluation methodology responsive to the concerns of persons with a stake in the program, was successfully used in preparation for the accreditation of an occupational therapy program. The experiences of undergraduate students who implemented the program evaluation as part of an honors elective course describe the process, outcomes, benefits, and problems associated with the use of naturalistic inquiry as a responsive program evaluation. 相似文献

School nurses who work with adolescents are in an ideal position to promote smoking cessation. This opportunity is important because research suggests teens who smoke are likely to become habitual smokers. This study characterizes adolescents' patterns and levels of smoking, describes adolescents' perceptions toward smoking, and delineates quit strategies that may prove helpful for adolescents who attempt smoking cessation. Results suggest adolescent smokers have highly variable patterns and levels of smoking. They fail to consider their future health and continue to be unaware of the harmful effects of smoking and the addictive nature of tobacco. Among adolescent smokers, there are few gender differences in perception of smoking. Therefore, gender specific cessation programs may not be necessary. The most effective quit strategy was the acquisition of information on contents of cigarettes and the health effects of smoking. Armed with these strategies, school nurses can provide leadership in the design and implementation of school based smoking cessation programs. 相似文献

Purpose: This quality improvement, educational intervention project aimed to develop nurse leaders at a large urban federally funded Health Care for the Homeless Program (HCH), using the Nursing Leadership Institute Competency Model. Methods: A leadership seminar series which addressed six leadership topics for homeless health care nurses was developed, implemented, and evaluated using a one group pre/posttest design. The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) was also administered before and after the seminar series. Results: There were statistically significant increases in new skills in the areas of interpersonal skills, personal mastery, systems thinking, and finance management. LPI scores improved after completion of the leadership seminar series. Conclusion: Participation in the leadership seminar series improved leadership skills and competencies of nurse leaders at the HCH. The acquired new knowledge may prepare homeless health nurses for sustained leadership roles which in turn will result in better meeting the needs of organizations providing care to homeless individuals. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to implement and evaluate a program for obese school children. A pretest-posttest design was utilized. Data was collected related to weight status, skinfold measurements, self-esteem, and nutritional knowledge. A convenience sample of 26 children, in the fourth to sixth grades, completed this 9-week program. The results indicate that self-esteem increased significantly (p < .001) between the pretest and posttest interval. Weight status and nutritional knowledge showed no improvement. Exercise was difficult to assess on self-report, therefore no conclusions were drawn in relation to this variable. Future research will be directed toward refining this intervention program. 相似文献
