Bedeutung der BI-RADS-Klassifikation in der Mammadiagnostik

The American College of Radiology (ACR) Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) is the product of a collaborative effort among members of various committees of the ACR. BI-RADS provides a standardized breast imaging terminology, assessment structure, and classification system for mammography and ultrasound findings of the breast and indicates specific courses of action. Originally designed for mammographic assessment, BI-RADS, with a scoring system of 0–6, provides differentiation of various findings (masses, calcifications, architectural distortions, asymmetric densities, and lymph nodes). A derived ultrasound BI-RADS version has recently been introduced by the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM). This BI-RADS analogue classification provides the same terminology, assessment of classification, and course of follow-up as the mammographic system.
