The necessity of monitoring the abrasive waterjet (AWJ) processes increases with the spreading of this tool into the machining processes. The forces produced on the workpiece during the abrasive waterjet machining can yield some valuable information. Therefore, a special waterjet-force measuring device designed and produced in the past has been used for the presented research. It was tested during the AWJ cutting processes, because they are the most common and the best described up-to-date AWJ applications. Deep studies of both the cutting process and the respective force signals led to the decision that the most appropriate indication factor is the tangential-to-normal force ratio (TNR). Three theorems concerning the TNR were formulated and investigated. The first theorem states that the TNR strongly depends on the actual-to-limit traverse speed ratio. The second theorem claims that the TNR relates to the cutting-to-deformation wear ratio inside the kerf. The third theorem states that the TNR value changes when the cutting head and the respective jet axis are tilted so that a part of the jet velocity vector projects into the traverse speed direction. It is assumed that the cutting-to-deformation wear ratio increases in a certain range of tilting angles of the cutting head. This theorem is supported by measured data and can be utilized in practice for the development of a new method for the monitoring of the abrasive waterjet cutting operations. Comparing the tilted and the non-tilted jet, we detected the increase of the TNR average value from 1.28 ± 0.16 (determined for the declination angle 20° and the respective tilting angle 10°) up to 2.02 ± 0.25 (for the declination angle 30° and the respective tilting angle of 15°). This finding supports the previously predicted and published assumptions that the tilting of the cutting head enables an increase of the cutting wear mode inside the forming kerf, making the process more efficient.  相似文献

The size and distribution of abrasive particles have a significant influence on the effectiveness of the cutting process by the high-speed abrasive water jet (AWJ). This paper deals with the disintegration intensity of abrasive materials in AWJ cutting during the creation of the abrasive jet. An evaluation of the abrasive materials was performed after forming in the cutting head was carried out and grain distribution was evaluated using the geometric and logarithmic Folk and Ward method. The influence of the abrasive concentration of abrasive materials such as alluvial garnet, recycled garnet, corundum, and olivine on grain distribution was studied. A recovery analysis was also carried out and the recycling coefficient was determined for each abrasive material tested.  相似文献

The aim of the research was to investigate changes of abrasive grains on metals observing the kerf walls produced by the Abrasive Water Jet (AWJ). The microscopy observations of the sidewalls of kerfs cut by the AWJ in several metal materials with an identical thickness of 10 mm are presented. The observed sizes of abrasive grains were compared with the results of research aimed at the disintegration of the abrasive grains during the mixing process in the cutting head during the injection AWJ creation. Some correlations were discovered and verified. The kerf walls observations show the size of material disintegration caused by the individual abrasive grains and also indicate the size of these grains. One part of this short communication is devoted to a critical look at some of the conclusions of the older published studies, namely regarding the correlation of the number of interacting particles with the acoustic emissions measured on cut materials. The discussion is aimed at the abrasive grain size after the mixing process and changes of this size in the interaction with the target material.  相似文献

The presented research was aimed at finding a suitable tool and procedure for monitoring undercuts or other problems such as cutting without abrasive or inappropriate parameters of the jet during the abrasive water jet (AWJ) cutting of hard-machined materials. Plates of structural steel RSt 37-2 of different thickness were cut through by AWJ with such traverse speeds that cuts of various qualities were obtained. Vibrations of the workpiece were monitored by three accelerometers mounted on the workpiece by a special block that was designed for this purpose. After detecting and recording vibration signals through the National Instruments (NI) program Signal Express, we processed this data by means of the LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Toolkit. Statistical evaluation of data was performed, and RMS was identified as the parameter most suitable for online vibration monitoring. We focus on the analysis of the relationship between the RMS and traverse speed.  相似文献

This article deals with the evaluation of selected aspects of abrasive water jet technology (AWJ) in the cutting of abrasion-resistant steel (HARDOX 500) with a thickness of 40 mm. The high abrasion resistance as a typical significant property of this steel ranks it among the special materials that are increasingly used. As the AWJ is a multiparametric technology, selected levels of feed rate, abrasive mass flow and pump working pressure were used in the experiments from the spectrum of technological parameters. For the purposes of evaluation, the examined cut surfaces were documented by a modified photographic method of displaying the cut surface by means of side lighting on the untreated cutting surface. The experimental part evaluates the dependences of selected cutting surface quality parameters (surface roughness and abrasive water jet deflection) on selected important technological parameters of the production system with AWJ technology (abrasive mass flow, technological head feed rate and pump working pressure). Based on the evaluation of the experiments, regression models were created to interpolate and extrapolate data to compare or supplement existing solutions in the field of research and as a basis for optimizing operating costs and increasing the efficiency of production systems with abrasive water jet technology.  相似文献

Cutting using an abrasive water jet is a complex process involving several physical phenomena. This research studies some of them, mostly the influence of selected variables on the measured forces and vibrations. The traverse speed represents one of the key parameters when cutting using the AWJ. In the presented research, a set of experiments was performed on twelve different metal samples, while the force sensor measured the exerted forces and accelerometers measured the vibrations. Ten different types of steel samples of the same dimensions were cut applying five different traverse speeds. The data obtained during these measurements show that an increase in the traverse speed leads to an increase in the measured forces and vibrations. An analogous experiment performed on bronze and duralumin samples of the same dimensions, having applied higher speeds to compensate for the difference in the material structure and properties, completes the presented data. The most important results of the research are that exerted forces in the z-axis are higher than those in the x-axis, whereas measured vibrations are higher in the x-axis. According to our research, the elemental structure, especially the carbide formation, affects the measured forces and vibrations substantially.  相似文献

Several titanium alloys, i.e., grade 2 Ti, Ti6Al4V and NiTi alloy, prepared by selected deformation procedures were subjected to abrasive water jet (AWJ) cutting and subsequently analysed. The study describes samples’ preparations and respective material structures. The impact of deformation processing of the selected alloys on the declination angle during cutting, and the results of measurements of surface wall quality performed for the selected samples at the Department of Physics of Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava, are presented and discussed, as are also the influences of structural features of the processed titanium alloys on surface qualities of the investigated samples. The results showed that the highest resistance to AWJ machining exhibited the Ti6Al4V alloy prepared by forward extrusion. Its declination angle (recalculated to the thickness 10 mm to compare all the studied samples) was 12.33° at the traverse speed of 100 mm/min, pumping pressure of 380 MPa, and abrasive mass flow rate of 250 g/min.  相似文献

The article focuses on the machining of polymeric materials polypropylene (PP) and un-plasticized poly vinyl chloride (PVC-U) after surface treatment with polyurethane and acrylate coatings using waterjet technology. Two types of waterjet technologies, abrasive waterjet (AWJ) and waterjet without abrasive (WJ), were used. The kerf width and its taper angle, at the inlet and outlet of the waterjet from the workpiece, were evaluated. Significant differences between AWJ and WJ technology were found. WJ technology proved to be less effective due to the creation of a nonuniform cutting gap and significant burrs. AWJ technology was shown to be more efficient, i.e., more uniform cuts were achieved compared to WJ technology, especially at a cutting head traverse speed of 50 mm·min−1. The most uniform kerf width or taper angle was achieved for PP + MOBIHEL (0.09°). The materials (PP and PVC-U) with the POLURAN coating had higher values of the taper angle of the cutting gap than the material with the MOBIHEL coating at all cutting head traverse speeds. The SEM results showed that the inappropriate cutting head traverse speed and the associated WJ technology resulted in significant destruction of the material to be cut on the underside of the cut. Delamination of the POLURAN and MOBIHEL coatings from the base material PP and PVC-U was not demonstrated by SEM analysis over the range of cutting head traverse speeds, i.e., 50 to 1000 mm·min−1.  相似文献

Vibration measurement belongs amongst the most important activities for the correct and stable operation of machines in terms of quality, economy, and safety. Monitoring the condition of the machine provides the key data for the detection of machine parts damage, thus preventing unexpected failure states and production drop-outs. Therefore, special attention is paid in the paper to the measurement and evaluation of basic parameters of vibration, particularly the frequency of vibrations and the amplitude of vibration acceleration. Experimental measurements were performed while machining the material HARDOX 500/10 on a production system using the abrasive water jet technology (AWJ) with the varied abrasive mass flow and the feed rate. By evaluating the results of measurements, recommendations of suitable and inappropriate combinations of operating parameters were formulated, widening current knowledge in the field of the abrasive parameters and the speed of movement of the technological head influence the amplitudes of vibration acceleration in the operation of production systems with AWJ technology.  相似文献

High-pressure water jet machining is characterized by wide possibilities of cutting diverse materials together with multi-layer materials with dissimilar properties, accurate cutting complex profiles, as well as conducting them in uncommon conditions, especially in cases of thick materials. An additional advantage of water jet technology is its environmental friendliness. This paper presents tests of the cutting performance of tool steel with the use of an abrasive water jet (AWJ). The state-of-the-art has shown insufficient scientific evidence in AWJ tool steels cutting using recycled abrasive materials. Therefore, the main motivation for this paper was to carry out research from an environment aspect. The reuse of abrasives and the use of recycled materials have immense potential to reduce processing costs while remaining environmentally friendly. The RSM method was used for modeling and optimization. A response surface design (RSM) is a package of an advanced design-of-experiment (DOE) approaches that support better understanding and optimize response, exploring the relationships between several explanatory variables and one or more response variables. Based on this research, feed rate is the key factor influencing the depth of cut, while the water nozzle diameter has a secondary effect, and the concentration of abrasive has the least influence on the depth of cut. High level of variance (the percentage of variability in the reaction that is interpreted by the formula) confirms that the models fit well to the investigational data.  相似文献

The paper solves the problem of the nonexistence of a new method for calculation of dynamics of stress-deformation states of deformation tool-material systems including the construction of stress-strain diagrams. The presented solution focuses on explaining the mechanical behavior of materials after cutting by abrasive waterjet technology (AWJ), especially from the point of view of generated surface topography. AWJ is a flexible tool accurately responding to the mechanical resistance of the material according to the accurately determined shape and roughness of machined surfaces. From the surface topography, it is possible to resolve the transition from ideally elastic to quasi-elastic and plastic stress-strain states. For detecting the surface structure, an optical profilometer was used. Based on the analysis of experimental measurements and the results of analytical studies, a mathematical-physical model was created and an exact method of acquiring the equivalents of mechanical parameters from the topography of surfaces generated by abrasive waterjet cutting and external stress in general was determined. The results of the new approach to the construction of stress-strain diagrams are presented. The calculated values agreed very well with those obtained by a certified laboratory VÚHŽ.  相似文献

Carbon fiber-reinforced composite material (CFRP) has been widely applied in the aerospace industry, which places demanding requirements on the accuracy and quality of its processing. However, there remains a lack of clarity on the microscopic material removal process of CFRP, despite substantial relevant research. This paper aims to reveal the mechanism of material removal in the CFRP cutting process at different fiber cutting angles and to establish an analytical model for CFRP cutting force by considering the radius of the edge circle. Furthermore, the CFRP cutting force analytical model was established by considering the radius of the edge circle on the basis of the CFRP representative volume unit (RVE). According to the model, the cutting process was divided into three regions, the cutting slip zone, fiber fracture zone, and spring back zone, with consideration given to the effect of residual fibers on the cutter teeth. The CFRP cutting finite element model was defined using the software Abaqus, while the chip removal and single-fiber deformation processes were analyzed using the finite element model. As indicated by the experimental results, the analytical model is reliable and capable of providing cutting force values within a 15% deviation.  相似文献

This paper presents the analysis of cutting force during surface layer milling of selected aluminium alloys, which are widely used in the aviation industry. The cutting force is one of the most important parameters determining the machinability of the material and also provides important information about the course of the cutting. The study analysed the influence of the technological parameters, i.e., cutting speed vc and depth of cut ap as well as the relation between cutting tool feed direction and rolling direction on the value of cutting force during milling of selected aluminium alloys, i.e., EN AW-2017A T451 and EN AW-2024 T351. The material anisotropy is a very important issue, since the engineering industry faces enormous problems related to the cutting of the tested materials that are usually supplied in the form of rolled plates. The surface layer was cut due to the fact that it accumulates the greatest residual stresses. The measurement process of cutting force was performed by using 9257B Kistler piezoelectric dynamometer. As part of the analysis of the results, the measurement uncertainty was also estimated, which was determined on the basis of two components obtained by using the A and B methods, respectively.  相似文献

In powder bed-based additive manufacturing (AM), complex geometries can be produced in a layer-wise approach. Results of material science experiments regarding material property identification, e.g., tensile strength, show interdependencies between the test load direction and the layer orientation. This goes hand-in-hand with the measured cutting force, changing with the relative angle between cutting direction and layer orientation in orthogonal cutting tests. However, due to the specific process characteristics, the layer orientation results in anisotropic material properties. Therefore, during machining, the material behaves depending on the buildup direction, which influences the cutting process. To predict this behavior, a simplified inverse approach is developed to determine the buildup direction-dependent parameters of a modified Johnson–Cook model for cutting simulation. To qualify these cutting models, mainly the cutting force and additionally the chip formation examined during orthogonal cuts are used. In the present paper, the influence of the laser-powder-bed-fusion (LPBF) process parameters on subtractive post-processing are shown. A good agreement between verification experiments and simulations is achieved.  相似文献

The regularities of the formation of the resulting raster tool trajectories based on Lissajous figures for the lapping process of planes are established. This makes it possible to maximize the cutting ability of the tool, which contributes to its more uniform wear and increased productivity and processing quality. Optimal parameters of productivity and roughness of the treated surface during lapping of zirconium ceramics are achieved through the use of ASM paste 28/20 µm. Based on Preston’s hypothesis, an exponential dependence of the change in the contact area during the lapping of planes of different initial shape of the macrorelief is obtained. The obtained theoretical and practical results of the study of the process of flat lapping with constant and variable clamping force of the treated surface to the surface of the tool. The influence of the force factor on the formation of the surface in the process of abrasive lapping has been established. Studies have been carried out and the main technological recommendations of precision surface treatment of workpieces based on hard, brittle ceramic material and bronze samples on equipment with a raster trajectory of the tool movement are presented. The optimal pressure value when processing ceramics should be considered 203–270 kPa (2.1–2.8 kg/cm2).  相似文献

This article focuses on the issues related to the machining of DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) laser sintered parts made of Inconel 718 alloy. Longitudinal turning with CBN (cubic boron nitride) tool inserts is analyzed. The authors made an attempt to establish a procedure to find the optimal finishing cutting parameters while minimizing the specific cutting force and taking into account the machined surface quality criterion. During experiments the influence of cutting data on the values of cutting force and specific cutting force were performed. Moreover, the results of measurements of surface roughness parameters and the results of analysis of chip form are presented as well. Cast Inconel 718 has also been tested for comparative purposes. The variability of the material’s hardening state during machining was found, as well as the variability of the specific cutting force value as a function of the cross-sectional shape of the cutting layer. The values of all components of the total cutting force for turning the material obtained by the additive method are lower than for turning the cast material by approximately 32%. At the end of the article, the authors present an application of the proposed optimization algorithm. It was established that by changing the cross-section shape of the cutting layer, it was possible to perform the turning process at a specific cutting force value of 22% less, which is achieved by reducing the cross-section size.  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation of abrasive waterjet turning (AWJT). The purpose of the article was to investigate significant parameters of the turning process and to evaluate their impact on the turning product. The influence of the traverse speed, the rotational speed, and the relative position of the jet to the specimen (lateral jet shift) were investigated. Based on the previous research done in this field, the multi-pass tangential turning method was selected. Rotational speed does not seem to have a significant impact on the AWJ turning process. However, the relative position of the jet is a key parameter for improving the efficiency of the process. Increasing the lateral jet shift causes the volume of the material removed to increase until the optimal impact angle is reached. These findings need to be extended in order to adjust AWJT. Without these improvements, a comparison of jet to traditional technologies is inappropriate.  相似文献

Forced rotation turning appears to be an effective machining method due to higher tool life, time efficiency and acceptable quality. Several studies have been carried out to investigate the basic characteristics of forced rotation machining. So far, tools are used whose design included several components. However, such tools may generate vibrations, which are undesirable in the process. In engineering practice, most vibration problems are solved by reducing the cutting parameters (cutting speed and feed rate), which reduces machining productivity. For this reason, a new type of monolithic rotary tool has been designed that eliminates the design complexity and high assembly accuracy requirements of current rotary tools. Based on the performed experimental research, it is possible to define the influence of cutting parameters on the cutting force. Next, the equation of the cutting force and the resulting roughness of the machined surface was determined. In the introduction, the results of the analysis of machining parameters with a rotary tool were added. The presented solution fundamentally validates the new monolithic tool for forced rotation technology and defines its application for different machining materials.  相似文献

Clarifying the influence of the dress process parameters of the abrasive water jet on the dressing effect of fixed-abrasive pads (FAPs) is a prerequisite for online controllable dressing of abrasive water jets. This paper uses three factors and three horizontal response surface methods to explore the influence of jet pressure, abrasive concentration, and nozzle angle on FAP dressing quality. The prediction model of the material removal rate of a FAP machined using three process parameters is established. The influence of pairwise interactions of the three process parameter variables on the dressing effect and the optimal process parameters under each target is analyzed. Finally, the optimal process parameters predicted by the model are verified by experiments. The results show that the best dressing parameters with the MRR of the workpiece as the response value are as follows: jet pressure 3.8 MPa, abrasive concentration 3%, and nozzle angle 73°. The predicted value of the optimal process performance is 464.574 nm/min, and the experimental verification result is 469.136 nm/min; the error between the experimental value and the predicted value is within a reasonable range.  相似文献

Today, modern metalworking centers are not yet able to reliably assess the degree of wear of the tool used in metal cutting. Despite the fact that a large number of methods for monitoring the service life of the tool have been developed, this issue still remains a difficult task that needs to be solved. Idea: The article proposes a new, previously unused method for estimating the power of a cutting wedge in metalworking. The aim of the study is to develop a method for indirectly estimating the tool wear rate based on a consistent model of intersystem communication that describes the force, thermal and vibration reactions of the cutting process to the shaping movements of the tool. Research methods: The study consists of experiments on a measuring stand and a homemade measuring complex. It also uses the Matlab mathematical software package for processing and graphical interpretation of data obtained during experiments. The results show that the proposed method of estimating the current tool wear is applicable for the interpretation of experimental data. Statistically, the modified Voltaire operator of the second kind models the temperature more accurately; at the peak, this method is three times more accurate than the other.  相似文献
