Surgical management of laryngotracheal stenosis in adults   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1  
The purpose was to evaluate the outcome following the surgical management of a consecutive series of 26 adult patients with laryngotracheal stenosis of varied etiologies in a tertiary care center. Of the 83 patients who underwent surgery for laryngotracheal stenosis in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland, between 1995 and 2003, 26 patients were adults (16 years) and formed the group that was the focus of this study. The stenosis involved the trachea (20), subglottis (1), subglottis and trachea (2), glottis and subglottis (1) and glottis, subglottis and trachea (2). The etiology of the stenosis was post-intubation injury ( n =20), infiltration of the trachea by thyroid tumor ( n =3), seeding from a laryngeal tumor at the site of the tracheostoma ( n =1), idiopathic progressive subglottic stenosis ( n =1) and external laryngeal trauma ( n =1). Of the patients, 20 underwent tracheal resection and end-to-end anastomosis, and 5 patients had partial cricotracheal resection and thyrotracheal anastomosis. The length of resection varied from 1.5 to 6 cm, with a median length of 3.4 cm. Eighteen patients were extubated in the operating room, and six patients were extubated during a period of 12 to 72 h after surgery. Two patients were decannulated at 12 and 18 months, respectively. One patient, who developed anastomotic dehiscence 10 days after surgery, underwent revision surgery with a good outcome. On long-term outcome assessment, 15 patients achieved excellent results, 7 patients had a good result and 4 patients died of causes unrelated to surgery (mean follow-up period of 3.6 years). No patient showed evidence of restenosis. The excellent functional results of cricotracheal/tracheal resection and primary anastomosis in this series confirm the efficacy and reliability of this approach towards the management of laryngotracheal stenosis of varied etiologies. Similar to data in the literature, post-intubation injury was the leading cause of stenosis in our series. A resection length of up to 6 cm with laryngeal release procedures (when necessary) was found to be technically feasible.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to evaluate the results of circumferential tracheal and cricotracheal resection with primary anastomosis for the treatment of post-intubation tracheal and cricotracheal stenosis. This is a retrospective analytical study. A total number of 24 patients were included in this study. The relevant preoperative, operative and postoperative records were collected and analyzed. Twenty patients were finally symptom-free reflecting an anastomosis success rate of 83.3 %. Variable grades of anastomotic restenosis occurred in 11 (45.8 %) patients, three patients were symptom-free and eight had airway obstructive symptoms. Four out of the eight patients with symptomatic restenosis were symptom-free with endoscopic dilatation while the remaining four patients required a permanent airway appliance (T-tube, tracheostomy) for the relief of airway obstruction and this group was considered as anastomotic failure. Cricoid involvement, associated cricoid resection and the type of anastomosis were the variables that had statistical impact on the occurrence of restenosis (P = 0.017, 0.017, 0.05; respectively). Tracheal resection with primary anastomosis is a safe effective treatment method for post-intubation tracheal stenosis in carefully selected patients. Restenosis does not always mean failure of the procedure since it may be successfully managed with endoscopic dilatation.  相似文献

Until recently, cricotracheal resection (CTR) has not been commonly accepted as a treatment modality for severe subglottic stenosis in the pediatric age group. The reasons have included the risk of a possible dehiscence at the site of the anastomosis, the likelihood of injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerves, and the interference with normal growth of the larynx. Thirty-eight infants and children with a severe subglottic stenosis underwent a partial cricoid resection with primary thyrotracheal anastomosis. Thirty-three patients were tracheotomy-dependent at the time of surgery and 34 were referred cases; 27 were classified as grade III, and 10 as grade IV stenoses according to new Cotton's classification. Nineteen patients were younger than 3 years of age at the time of surgery. The tracheotomy was resected during the surgical procedure in 21 cases. Decannulation was achieved in 36/38 cases after an open procedure. There is one complete restenosis and one good result awaiting decannulation after further surgery for a Pierre Robin syndrome. The authors experienced no lesion of the recurrent laryngeal nerves and no fatality. Thirty-one patients show no exertional dyspnea, three a slight stridor while exercising, and two patients are not decannulated. The postoperative follow-up in longer than 10 years in eight cases. All patients show a normal growth of the larynx and trachea. Compared to laryngotracheoplasties, CTR gives better results for severe subglottic stenosis. This operation should become the treatment of choice for severe (grade III and IV) subglottic stenosis in infants and children.  相似文献

ObjectivesThis study was conducted to review our experience in Otorhinolaryngology Department, Mansoura University Hospitals, Egypt, in the last 2 years in the management of high-risk patients who underwent cricotracheal resection due to different pathologies.MethodsThis case series included nine patients with severe, grade III or IV subglottic / cervical tracheal stenosis. These patients were considered high risk patients due to unusual pathology / etiology of stenosis or associated surgical field morbidity. Four patients had recurrent stenosis after previous unsuccessful cricotracheal resection, three patients had subglottic stenosis due to external neck trauma which compromised the surgical field. One patient had upper tracheal neoplasm, and in 1 patient there was upper tracheal stenosis associated with tracheo-esophageal fistula.ResultsSuccessful decannulation was achieved in all patients (n = 9) without any reported major intraoperative or postoperative compilations.ConclusionCases of subglottic / upper tracheal stenosis due to uncommon pathologies like neoplastic lesions, external neck trauma compromising the surgical field and revision cricotracheal resection, can be successfully managed by cricotracheal resection. However, a highly skilled team, well familiar with these surgeries, is mandatory to achieve an optimum outcome.  相似文献

Fifteen infants and children with a severe subglottic stenosis underwent a partial cricoid resection with primary tracheal anastomosis. The etiology of the stenosis was congenital in 3 cases and was acquired after prolonged intubation in 12. Fourteen patients were tracheotomy dependent at the time of surgery, and 13 (87%) of the 15 were classified grade III (7 cases) and IV (6 cases) according to Cotton. The resection included the cricoid only in 5 cases and the cricoid and a segment of trachea (1 to 4 rings) in 10 cases. Decannulation was achieved after a single open procedure in 14 (93%) of the cases. The authors encountered no lesion of the recurrent laryngeal nerves and no fatalities. There was, however, 1 restenosis. Twelve cases were decannulated within 6 months, most of them at 2 months. The postoperative voice is normal in 10 cases, and a slight dysphonia is present in 4 cases. Twelve patients show no exertional dyspnea, and 2 exhibit a slight stridor while practicing sports. Ten of 14 cases have been followed for more than 5 years, with the longest follow-up now being 14 years. In all cases, the laryngotracheal development is normal. The results of this small series compare favorably with those of laryngotracheoplasty procedures usually performed for subglottic stenosis in infants and children. In the future, partial cricoid resection with primary tracheal anastomosis should be considered as an important treatment option for severe subglottic stenoses in infants and children.  相似文献

Background

Segmental tracheal resection is considered to be the standard treatment of tracheal stenoses.

Materials/Methods

During the time period 1985–2002, segmental tracheal resection with a primary end-to-end anastomosis was performed in 117 patients with a cervical or upper thoracal stenosis of the trachea. The age distribution of the patients was between 7 and 77 years. Of the patients with a benign tracheal stenosis, sufficient data for a retrospective analysis were available in 101 patients. The length of the resected tracheal segments varied between 2 and 6 cm which required mobilisation of the trachea and the larynx and, if necessary, incision of the pulmonary ligament.

Results

In 5 patients a permanent damage of the recurrent laryngeal nerve was seen, of which 4 had undergone revision surgery and 10 months after surgery 93% presented with a large and stable tracheal lumen without any relevant restenosis. Due to a restenosis of 70–80% causing dyspnea at rest, 3% of the 101 patients had to undergo revision surgery. In 4% a mild and asymptomatic restenosis of 30–40% was seen which did not require any further treatment.

Conclusion

These results demonstrate that segmental tracheal resection can safely and effectively remove stenotic tracheal segments of up to 6 cm and is therefore the treatment of choice.  相似文献

Objectives/Hypothesis:

In patients undergoing laryngotracheal reconstruction (LTR), malacic segments of trachea can pose challenges to successful reconstruction. Malacic segments may inadequately support cartilage grafts used in augmentation surgery, sometimes requiring cricotracheal or tracheal resections. We describe a novel technique of LTR with resorbable microplate buttressing of malacic lateral tracheal segments.

Study Design:

Retrospective case series.

Methods:

Review of technique, treatment outcomes, and complications of seven children with subglottic stenosis and tracheomalacia requiring a microplate‐augmented LTR technique.

Results:

Seven infants ranging from 26 months to 9 years of age successfully underwent LTR for subglottic stenosis. Six children had a grade III subglottic stenosis. The seventh child had grade II subglottic stenosis, bilateral vocal fold paralysis, an elliptical cricoid, and an obstructing giant suprastomal fibroma. Five children underwent a double‐stage LTR with resorbable microplates sutured bilaterally to support severely malacic lateral tracheal segments. A cricotracheal resection would not have been feasible in one child due to the resection length and inadequate tracheal mobilization. Two children underwent a single‐stage LTR with unilateral application of a microplate. Six children were decannulated within 3 months and continue without airway symptoms or complications. One child, who is just over 2 months from reconstructive surgery, is being setup for decannulation. No complications were encountered.

Conclusions:

LTR with resorbable microplate buttressing of malacic lateral tracheal segments is technically feasible, safe, and can avoid more extensive surgery requiring tracheal resection. Reconstruction of combined laryngotracheal stenosis requires complex techniques including resection and incorporation of grafts and stents that can be performed as single or multistaged procedure. A complicated case of traumatic laryngotracheal stenosis was managed by us, surgical technique is discussed. A 16-year-old male presented with Stage-3 laryngotracheal stenosis of grade-3 to 4 (>70% of the complete obstruction of tracheal lumen) of 5 cm segment of the larynx and trachea. Restoration of the critical functions of respiration and phonation was achieved in this patient by resection anastomosis of the trachea and with subglottic remodeling. Resection of 5 cm long segment of trachea and primary anastomosis in this case would have created tension at the site of anastomosis. So we did tracheal resection of 3 cm segment of trachea along with subglottic remodeling instead of removing the 5 cm segment of stenosed laryngotracheal region and doing thyrotracheal anastomosis. In complicated long segment, laryngotracheal stenosis, tracheal resection and subglottic remodeling with primary anastomosis can be an alternative approach. Fibrin glue can be used to support free bone/cartilage grafts in laryngotracheal reconstructions.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess the long-term results of dilatation and our experience with dilatation for assisted ventilation-induced laryngotracheal stenosis. DESIGN: A retrospective study of 32 patients primarily treated with dilatation for assisted ventilation-induced laryngotracheal stenosis between 1977 and 2002. SETTING: A tertiary care center and university teaching hospital. PATIENTS: There were 19 men and 13 women aged 15 to 76 years. The stenosis was cicatricial with some inflammatory process in 27 patients and completely mature in 5 patients. The stenosis involved the cricoid and the trachea in four patients. In 28 patients, the stenosis involved only the trachea. METHODS: Dilatation was performed with serially sized rigid bronchoscopes. Endoscopic laser vaporization was never performed in this series. Six patients were treated with only one dilatation. The 26 remaining patients were treated with successively 2 to 10 dilatations (mean, 3.3 dilatations). The dilatation success rate was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: Median duration of follow-up was 1.8 years. Mortality rate was 9.4%. The overall failure rate was 71.8%. Twenty patients presented with recurrent stenosis. The treatment of recurrent stenosis consisted of tracheal resection with end-to-end anastomosis (11 patients, 55%), cricotracheal anastomosis (5 patients, 25%), tracheal endoprosthesis (2 patients, 10%), and tracheotomy (1 patient, 5%). All patients who underwent tracheal or cricotracheal anastomosis were successfully treated. None of the variables under analysis (sex, age, medical history, cause for intubation, intubation type and duration, delay from initial injury, degree of stenosis, length of trachea involved, number of dilatations) were statistically related to the incidence of complications and the success rate of dilatations. CONCLUSIONS: We do not recommend dilatation technique as the sole treatment for assisted ventilation-induced laryngotracheal stenosis. This technique is helpful in case of emergency to restore an airway and useful for the assessment of stenosis.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To review the surgical margins of partial cricotracheal resection in our series of patients. This includes specific anatomic detail as to each superior and inferior resection margin. To apply this information and access the utility of partial cricotracheal resection for the treatment of subglottic stenosis. STUDY DESIGN/METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of 38 children with severe subglottic stenosis who underwent partial cricotracheal resection. Information was obtained with regard to the specific anatomic location of the superior and inferior resection margins, the grade of subglottic stenosis preoperatively, the type of stenting material used postoperatively, and other surgical details specific to each procedure. RESULTS: The superior resection margins were generally to the superior aspect of the cricoid cartilage but as high as the undersurface of the true vocal folds in a minority of patients. Inferior resection margins were generally to the second tracheal ring. Length of resection varied, but was as long as 3.0 cm in one patient. Overall surgical success based on decannulation was > 86%. CONCLUSION: Partial cricotracheal resection is a safe and successful procedure for the treatment of subglottic stenosis. The margins and length of resection should be tailored specifically for each patient; and special considerations must be taken when extensive resection to the level of the true vocal folds is required. Safe airway management in the postoperative period is essential.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Severe subglottic stenosis is a difficult condition to manage. It can be treated by laryngotracheal reconstruction or cricotracheal resection. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study the experiences for treatment of isolated subglottic stenosis in 37 patients (age: 3-78 years; stenosis grading: 20 x grade II, 13 x grade III, and 4 x grade IV) by laryngotracheal reconstruction in a 30-years experience are presented. RESULTS: In 33 out of 37 patients (89.2 %) a sufficient subglottic patency (postoperative endoscopic finding: stenosis less than 30 %) was achieved by laryngotracheal reconstruction. However, 5 patients of this series had required revision of laryngotracheal recontruction and in 22 patients endoscopic removal of granulation tissue had been performed. Sufficient widening of the subglottic space had been possible in all grade II stenosis (20/20), in 11 out of 13 patients with grade III stenosis, and in 3 out of 4 patients with grade IV stenosis. In one child an accidental decannulation occurred and due to asphyxia an apallic syndrome developed. CONCLUSIONS: Even through laryngotracheal reconstruction is a demanding surgical technique requiring great experience it is an effective option for treatment of subglottic stenosis less than 90 %. For severe subglottic stenosis (> 90 %) treatment by laryngotracheal reconstruction is possible and should be considered if mobilisation of the trachea by scar tissue is suited to be worse or to extended cricotracheal stenosis is present, both being not good candidates for cricotracheal resection.  相似文献

To study the effectiveness of laryngotracheal reconstruction with rib cartilage graft for complex laryngotracheal stenosis and/or anterior neck defect, 62 patients with complex laryngotracheal stenosis and/or anterior neck defect underwent laryngotracheal reconstruction with autogenous rib cartilage graft. The surgical procedures were laryngotracheotomy with rib cartilage graft interposition and silicon-tube stent placed in the region of laryngotracheal stenosis and/or anterior neck defect for the period of between 10 days and 12 months. Three patients with complex subglottic stenosis and anterior neck defects underwent a single-stage reconstruction with a combined rib cartilage graft interposition and fasciocutaneous flap reparation. One patient with a complex subglottic and superior thoracic tracheal stenosis underwent a staged operation. Of the 62 patients, 46 patients (74.1 %) were successfully decannulated. One patient had combined subglottic stenosis, which was healed, and superior thoracic tracheal stenosis, which is undergoing treatment. 15 patients (24.2 %) had failure in decannulation due to either wound infection followed by rib cartilage necrosis, or granulation tissue formation and restenosis. Of these 15 patients, ten required revision operations and delayed healing. The duration of follow-up ranged from 1 to 10 years. Of 46 patients, who were successfully decannulated, 36 had a satisfactory airway and a functional voice; two had restenosis due to partial laryngectomy for laryngocarcinoma recurrence 1 year after decannulation; eight were lost to follow-up after successfully decannulated. We conclude that this method can provide effective treatment for complex laryngotracheal stenosis and/or anterior neck defects. It is relatively simple with a high decannulation rate in selected patients.  相似文献

Objective

To review the surgical outcomes of partial cricotracheal resection in children with severe congenital subglottic stenosis and define the effect of concomitant anomalies or syndromes affecting outcome.

Methods

Forty-one children with subglottic stenosis of congenital and mixed (acquired on congenital) etiologies who underwent partial cricotracheal resection were identified from a prospectively collected database. Children with congenital subglottic stenosis and concomitant anomalies/syndromes were compared to children with congenital subglottic stenosis with no syndromes or concomitant anomalies. Operation-specific decannulation rates and complication rates were the primary outcome measures. We performed a two-sample test of proportion using the STATA-10 software for categorical variables to detect differences in proportions. Significance was set at p value < 0.05.

Results

Twenty-seven (66%) of 41 children had concomitant anomalies/syndromes and 14 (34%) had congenital subglottic stenosis without concomitant anomalies/syndromes. Four patients needed revision surgery in the concomitant anomaly group and two patients needed revision surgery in the non concomitant anomaly group before achieving decannulation. The operation-specific decannulation rate in the concomitant anomaly group was 85% and 86% in the non anomaly group. When compared to children without concomitant anomaly, children with concomitant anomalies were more likely to have delayed decannulation following partial cricotracheal resection. However, this difference was not found to be statistically significant. The complication and operation-specific decannulation rates after partial cricotracheal resection were comparable to children without concomitant anomalies. Mortality rate was 11% (three of 27 patients) in the group with associated congenital anomalies or syndromes. Two patients succumbed to the primary pathology and one patient died due to tracheostomy-tube obstruction. There was no post-operative death in the non anomaly group.

Conclusion

Partial cricotracheal resection can be done safely and effectively in children with concomitant anomalies/syndromes to achieve decannulation. The post-operative course may be prolonged but the decannulation and the complication rates are comparable to those children with congenital subglottic stenosis without concomitant anomalies.  相似文献

Invasion of the laryngeal framework by thyroid carcinoma requires specific surgical techniques and carries a higher rate of complications that deserve to be highlighted. We reviewed our data from 1995 to 2012 and found six patients with laryngotracheal invasion by thyroid carcinoma. All underwent total thyroidectomy and single-stage cricotracheal resection, plus anterolateral neck dissection. Three had airway obstruction that necessitated prior endoscopic debulking. None of the patients needed a tracheotomy. There were four cases of papillary carcinoma, and two cases of undifferentiated carcinoma. One patient died of complications of the procedure (anastomotic dehiscence and tracheo-innominate artery fistula). Another died 2 months after the procedure from local recurrence and aspiration pneumonia. One case presented recurrence at 15 months, which was managed by re-excision and adjuvant radiotherapy; after 26 months of follow-up, he has no evidence of locoregional recurrence. The three other patients are alive without evidence of disease at 6, 18 and 41 months, respectively. Cricotracheal resection for subglottic invasion by thyroid carcinoma is an effective procedure, but carries significant risks of complications. This could be attributed to the devascularisation of the tracheal wall due to the simultaneous neck dissection, sacrifice of the strap muscles or of a patch of oesophageal muscle layer. We advocate a sternocleidomastoid flap to cover the anastomosis. Cricotracheal resection for subglottic invasion can be curative with good functional outcomes, even for the advanced stages of thyroid cancer. Endoscopic debulking of the airway prior to the procedure avoids tracheotomy.  相似文献

To report our experience with tracheal invasive thyroid carcinoma with emphasis on clinical characteristics and treatment modalities, and to identify the prognostic factors for tracheal invasive thyroid carcinoma. Totally 1919 patients underwent surgical extirpation of thyroid cancer from 1990 to 2010. Among them, 65 patients had well-differentiated thyroid cancer with tracheal invasion. The incidence was higher in male and older patients. Patients were treated with tracheal shave excision (n = 18), tracheal resection (n = 37) and total laryngectomy (n = 10). Locoregional recurrence occurred in 39 patients, and metastasis occurred in 25 patients. Simultaneous involvement of the trachea and the esophagus was associated with locoregional recurrence (p = 0.039) in univariate analysis, but not confirmed by multivariate analysis. There was significant difference in the disease-specific survival (DSS) according to laryngeal involvement (p = 0.002). All the patient in the shave excision group survived until the end of the study period. Although it is categorized in same classification of T4a, simultaneous involvement of the trachea and the esophagus showed higher locoregional recurrence and laryngeal involvement showed lower DSS. Despite the invasion of thyroid cancer into the adjacent aerodigestive tract, many patients showed long survival when they underwent appropriate surgery.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Composite nasal septal cartilage grafts (CNSCG) are effective grafting materials in laryngeal and tracheal reconstruction following tumor resection. METHODS: Between 1985 and 2005, we used CNSCG for the reconstruction of defects following resection of laryngeal tumors with subglottic extension (20 cases), subglottic mesenchymal tumors (2 cases), invasive thyroid carcinoma (4 cases), tracheal tumors (3 cases) and esophagus carcinoma with tracheal invasion (1 case) in total of 30 patients. RESULTS: The patients with subglottic tumors were decanulated within 5-7 days except one case. We achieved satisfactory voice and swallowing without any sign of recurrence. Overall complications consisted of subglottic stenosis in one case, and unilateral paralysis of recurrent laryngeal nerve in two cases. One patient with subglottic laryngeal carcinoma died due to neck and distant metastases 4 years after the operation. All patients are well with a mean follow-up period 9 years. Three patients with tracheal tumors underwent lateral resection and reconstructed with CNSCG. Satisfactory healing of the grafts was seen in all cases without local recurrence or complication with a mean follow-up period of 62 months. One of the patients had distant metastases 3 years after the operation. The patient with esophagus carcinoma and tracheal invasion was treated by total esophagectomy, gastric pull-up, tracheal resection and CNSCG reconstruction. He died at postoperative 5th day due to mediastinitis as a complication of gastric pull-up. CONCLUSION: Free composite cartilage graft is a reliable material in the reconstruction of defects after surgery of laryngeal tumors with subglottic extension, invasive thyroid and esophagus tumors and well-selected tracheal tumors.  相似文献

To explore clinical manifestation and therapies of primary malignant tumors of the cervical trachea, we retrospectively reviewed 31 patients with primary cervical tracheal malignant tumors diagnosed in the last 15 years by means of clinical manifestation, fiberoptic endoscopy, CT scanning and histopathological examinations. All of them were hospitalized and treated at the Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University. Of them, 4 underwent emergent tracheotomy under local anesthesia, 9 were inserted with a laryngeal mask airway, 18 underwent tumorectomy under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation, and of them 11 had tracheotomy during surgery. Of those 31 patients, tracheal malignant tumors in 9 cases were resected via laryngeal and retrograde tracheal incisions under endoscope; the tumors in 13 cases were excised via sleeve trachea resection and end-to-end anastomosis; those in 8 were removed by tracheofissure, and the tumor in 1 case was not excised surgically. Among the 30 resected patients, 20 patients received both radiotherapy and chemotherapy; 6 received radiotherapy only, and 4 did not receive any adjuvant therapies. During follow-up between 2 and 11 years, among 31 patients, there was no recurrence in 24 cases. Among the 7 deceased patients, 1 displayed multiple tracheal chondrosarcoma, 4 displayed adenoid cystic carcinoma, and 2 displayed squamous cell carcinoma. Emergency lower tracheotomy is necessary only when patients with tracheal, malignant tumors are in a critical condition. Sleeve trachea resection is the optimal therapy for tracheal malignant tumors. However, in the treatment of tracheal malignant tumors adjacent to the larynx or the involved trachea is over 6 cm in length, other surgeries shall be performed. Airway growth following cricotracheal resection in puppies   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A canine animal model was developed to study the effects of cricoid resection on cricoid cartilage growth and subglottic lumen size. Twenty-four healthy, postweanling mongrel puppies, aged 5 to 7 weeks, were randomly divided into two groups. The first group, consisting of 13 puppies, underwent cricotracheal resection with primary anastomosis. A second group, consisting of 11 puppies, served as controls and did not have surgery. Animals from both groups were killed at age 13 weeks. Most of the animals, however, were allowed to mature to adulthood and were killed between age 26 to 28 weeks. Comparative histologic examinations of the laryngotracheal complexes of operated-on and control dogs showed uninterrupted cartilage growth at the anastomosis site after cricotracheal resection. There was no significant difference in the mean area of the cricoid lumen between the two groups when luminal area was adjusted for body weight. The results demonstrate that cricotracheal resection in this animal model does not interrupt cricoid luminal area or cricoid cartilage growth, and provides rationale for further investigation of cricoid resection with primary anastomosis in humans. Cricotracheal resection in growing puppies appears to be an excellent model for further studies in the surgical treatment of acquired subglottic stenosis in infants and children.  相似文献
