We describe the case of a female infant with multiple congenital anomalies who was found to have a de novo distal intestinal del (1) (q32 q42). The clinical features of other reports of similar deletions are briefly reviewed. No characteristic phenotype seems to be as yet definable due to the limited number of cases published.  相似文献

Two unrelated children, one with a proximal interstitial deletion 1 (1(pter----q21: :q25----qter] and the other one with a distal interstitial deletion 1 (1(pter----q41: :q43----qter] are presented. The clinical features of the patient with a proximal deletion (q21-q25) correspond with those of eight earlier reported cases with a deletion 1q21/22/23----q25. The second patient with the distal interstitial deletion (q41-q43) is the first case published as far as we know. The clinical characteristics of the latter patient are compared with those of six cases with a terminal deletion 1q with at least one common band missing (1q42).  相似文献

We present two unrelated children with the de novo interstitial deletion of the proximal segment of the long arm of chromosome 1 (1q21–23→1q25). Comparison of the phenotypic characteristics of these two patients with those of two previously described patients with similar deletion confirms the existence of the proximal 1q deletion syndrome. The characteristics of this newly recognized deletion syndrome include pre- and postnatal growth retardation; severe psychomotor retardation; microbrachycephaly; sparse, fine scalp hair and eyebrows; cleft lip and palate; hernias; genitalia defects; small hands and feet; and clinodactyly of the fifth fingers.  相似文献

We report on a newborn girl with malformed ears, bilateral cleft lip and cleft palate, complex congenital heart disease, absent left thumb, and rib abnormalities. Cytogenetic analysis demonstrated a de novo interstitial deletion of the short arm of chromosome 1 [46,XX,del(1)(p21p22.3)]. Reports of interstitial deletions on the short arm of chromosome 1 are rare. However, when comparing this patient's phenotype to others with deletions of 1p, we found that the current case was much more severely affected than previously reported cases. Am. J. Med. Two children with a partial monosomy 6q are reported: a girl with an interstitial deletion [46, XX, del(6)(q16.2q23.1)], and a boy with a terminal deletion [46, XY, del(6)(q25.1)]. Both children presented with developmental delay, facial dysmorphism and a cardiac defect. The patients have been studied using G banding and cosmid probes specific for the long arm of chromosome 6. Clinical data are compared with patients reported in the literature.  相似文献

Interstitial or terminal deletion resulting in partial monosomy of various segments of the long arm of chromosome 7 was first recorded over two decades ago. Since then, a number of reports have correlated the severity of clinical manifestations with the length of the deletion involved. However, difficulty remains in defining a so-called "distinct syndrome". We present a new case with the shortest interstitial deletion of the long arm of chromosome 7 bands q33-35, i.e. 46,XX,del(7)(pter----q33::q35----qter). A 4-year-old black female was referred for cytogenetic evaluation due to neurodevelopmental delay. Pertinent physical examination at birth was cleft lip and cleft palate which required corrective surgery. At 2 years of age, a myringotomy tube was inserted for repeated ear infection and a hearing aid was required for conductive deafness. Neurological examination revealed poor eye contact, and severe mental and motor retardation. We reviewed 21 cases of a partial interstitial deletion of varied segments of the long arm of chromosome 7, but we were unable to establish a definite relationship with the deletion of various 7q segments with any specific clinical manifestations.  相似文献

We describe a 3-month-old female with a de novo interstitial deletion of the long arm of chromosome 1 (1q23–25). Clinical features are failure to thrive, psychomotor retardation, cleft lip and palate, short metacarpals, metatarsals and fingers and a severe congenital heart disease.
The four previously reported patients with the same deletion share with ours the distinctive pattern of anomalies of the face and limbs; therefore, it seems now possible to delineate a proximal 1q deletion syndrome.  相似文献

A male newborn with partial deletion of the short arm of chromosome 3 is described. The patient shares most of the features with the previously reported cases. In addition, cardiac, skeletal and gastrointestinal anomalies not previously reported are described. These characteristics may help in further delineation of the syndrome.  相似文献

Since the first patient with partial deletion of the long arm of chromosome 10 was described in 1978, another 23 cases have been reported, with the breakpoint ranging from 10q23.3–26.2. To contribute further to the delineation of the monosomy 10qter syndrome, we describe a female child who, at age 3 6/12 years, was diagnosed with a de novo deletion of the long arm of chromosome 10, with a breakpoint in 10q25.3. The phenotypic manifestations in this child are compatible with those of previously reported cases. However, in contrast to most other patients, we found a moderate expression of the syndrome, with no genitourinary or cardiac malformations and with only mild retardation. Based on our observations and those of others, we conclude that a typical craniofacial appearance and varying degrees of psychomotor retardation are always found in patients with 10q− syndrome. Am. We report on a patient with monosomy 18 mosaicism, a previously undescribed chromosome abnormality. The phenotype is reminiscent of chromosome 18 ring mosaicism. The reason that the patient survived may be attributed to low level mosaicism for the monosomy.  相似文献

We report on a 6-year-old boy with de novo 46, XY, del(3)(q12q23) and bilateral blepharo-phimosis, ptosis, epicanthus inversus, in addition to multiple other anomalies. Since 4 previously reported cases of interstitial deletion of 3q involving 3q23 band are clinically similar, we propose this blepharophimosis sequence due to 3q23 deletion as a further “contiguous gene syndrome”.  相似文献

A case of an interstitial deletion of chromosome 13, identified as 46,XY,del(13)(q22q31), is reported in a child with psychomotor retardation, prominent low-set ears, epicanthus, hypertelorism, broad nasal bridge, hypoplastic fifth fingers and abnormal dermatoglyphics. This patient is compared to others in the literature with a similar deletion.  相似文献

We report the clinical and chromosomal findings in 8 patients with deletions of the long arm of chromosome 4. Four of these patients appear to have terminal deletions beginning in band 4q31, and therefore, lack the digital 1/3 of the long arm of chromosome 4. We confirm that deletion of 4q31→qter causes a recognizable syndrome, and we further define the phenotype of that syndrome. A 5th patient has a shorter terminal deletion, ie, 4q33→qter. This deletion causes a milder phenotypic expression than that seen in the severe 4q terminal-deletion syndrome. The remaining 3 patients have interstitial deletions of the long arm of the 4th chromosome, including segments 4q21.1→q25, 4q21.3→q26, and 4q27→q31.3. The phenotypic expression noted in these patients is variable and differs from the 4q terminal-deletion syndrome.  相似文献

We report on a 4-month-old boy with a de novo interstitial deletion of the short arm of chromosome 3 (pter → p21.2::p12 → qter) and clinical findings typical of proximal 3p deletion together with coloboma of iris, heart defect, choanal atresia, retardation of growth and development, genital hypoplasia, and ear anomalies. Family history was unremarkable and parental chromosomes were normal. The clinical manifestations of the patient are compared with those of 10 patients previously described with a proximal 3p deletion. The additional CHARGE-like phenotype is discussed. Am. J. Med. Pure subtelomeric deletion of the long arm of chromosome 6 is rare. The frequency of this deletion accounts for approximately 0.05% of subjects with intellectual disability and developmental delay with or without dysmorphic features. Common phenotypes associated with this deletion include intellectual disability, developmental delay, dysmorphic features, seizure, hypotonia, microcephaly and hypoplasia of the corpus callosum. The smallest overlapped region is approximately 0.4 Mb, and contains three known genes. Of these genes, TBP has been considered as a plausible candidate gene for the phenotype in patients with a subtelomeric 6q deletion. Analysis of the breakpoints in 14 cases revealed a potential common breakpoint interval 8.0-9.0 Mb from the chromosome 6q terminus where the FRA6E fragile site exists and the PARK2 gene is located. This suggests that breakage at the FRA6E fragile site may be the mechanism behind chromosome 6q subtelomeric deletion in some of the cases.  相似文献

Interstitial deletions of the long arm of chromosome 4 are rare. Different breakpoints are involved. Only one of the patients had a very similar deletion to that of the present case. Both had low birth weight at term; weight, length and head circumference less than the third centile; epicanthic folds; apparently low-set abnormal ears; broad nasal bridge; micrognathia; hypoplastic nails; delayed psychomotor development; and mild mental retardation. © 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

A 10-year-old boy with developmental delay, craniofacial dy smorphia, malformations of the hands and feet and a cardiac malformation was found to have a small deletion of the distal region (q33 → qter) of the long arm of a chromosome 4. The clinical findings in this case are compared with those of a 17-week-old girl recently found to have the same deletion. Two additional patients with similar small deletions have been described in the literature. The similarity among the cases suggests the possibility of a deletion (4)(q33) syndrome. The major features of the syndrome are similar to those of larger deletions of the long arm of chromosome 4 and include mental and growth retardation, craniofacial dysmorphia including upslanting palpebral fissues, depressed nasal bridge, anteverted nares, abnormally shaped ears and micrognathia, and cardiac defects.  相似文献

5p-is a well-defined syndrome, but phenotypic correlations of 5q are poorly described in the literature. We present a case of a female child with interstitial deletion in the 5q13.1q15 region. Comparison of the clinical features of this patient with others reported in the literature suggests an emerging clinical syndrome defined by short stature, failure to thrive, mental retardation, slanting palpebral fissures, malformed ears, short neck and depressed nasal bridge. Based on our endocrine testing, we hypothesize that the short stature could be, in part, due to growth hormone deficiency. The recent assignment of growth hormone receptor gene to the short arm of chromosome 5 and the presence of several genes for growth factors and growth factor receptors on 5q raise interesting possibilities for the explanation of short stature in such cases.  相似文献
