Hemodilution in the treatment of central retinal vein thrombosis]

The authors present contemporary opinions on the aetiology, forms and prognosis in central retinal vein occlusion. Methods of treatment by haemodilution, indications and contraindications are discussed.     

Evaluation of the effectiveness of Pentoxifylline in the treatment of retinal vein thrombosis. Preliminary report]

In 18 patients with retinal vein occlusion the authors used Pentoxifylline in droplet infusion for an increased deformation of erythrocytes. In all the patients they observed a substantial improvement of all physiological parameters of the visual system.     

Use of photocoagulation during surgery for retinal detachment]

On the basis of a 10-years clinical material comprising 95 eyes operated for retinal detachment in the Department of Ophthalmology in Krakow the authors evaluated the usefulness of xenon and laser coagulation as a method complementing the blockade of the retinal holes. It had been used in 18 p.c. of all operated eyes attaining in this group of cases the re-apposition of the retina in 61 p.c. The efficacy of the coagulation depended on the adherence of the retina and showed itself as formation during the surgery of visible foci and the development of a distinct, pigmented scar. There were no complications connected with photocoagulation as well the xenon as the laser one; all this encourages to employ both these methods.     

The argon laser in the prevention of retinal detachment]

In a group of 57 eyes in 51 patients the authors analyze seven years' experience with the use of an argon laser in the prophylaxis of detachment of the retina. The advantages of the argon laser were most marked in traumatic ruptures of the retina and in peripheral vitreoretinal degenerations. In eyes with not closed ruptures after episcleral filling argon laser coagulation proved successful in 77%.
