Objective
In sporadic colon tumors, multistep process of well-known genetic alterations accelerates carcinogenesis; however, this does not appear to be the case in inflammation-related ones. We previously established a model of inflammation-related colon carcinogenesis using human colonic adenoma cells, and identified fascin as a driver gene of this process. We analyzed the microRNAs involved in the stable fascin expression in colon adenocarcinoma cells.Materials and methods
miRNA microarray analysis was performed using FPCK-1-1 adenoma cells and its-derived FPCKpP1-4 adenocarcinoma cells through chronic inflammation. To assess the involvement of miRNA in the inflammation-related carcinogenesis, sphere-forming ability, expression of colon cancer stemness markers, and stability of fascin protein via the proteasome using tough decoy RNA technique. Results
We found that 17 miRNAs including miR-146a were upregulated and 16 miRNAs were downregulated in FPCKpP1-4 adenocarcinoma cells. We revealed that miR-146a in the adenocarcinoma cells brought about acquisition of sphere formation, cancer stemness, and inhibition of proteasomal degradation of the fascin protein. Conclusions
We found that stable fascin expression is brought about via the inhibition of proteasome degradation by miR-146a in the process of a chronic inflammation-related colon carcinogenesis.4.

Objectives
The aim of this study is to identify the clinical tumor stage related mRNAs and miRNAs, shedding light on the potential molecular mechanisms of cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC).Methods
Firstly, the mRNA and miRNA next-generation sequencing data were downloaded. Secondly, clinical tumor stage correlation analysis of mRNAs and miRNA was performed, followed by the functional enrichment analysis of all clinical tumor stage related mRNAs. Thirdly, differentially expression analysis of mRNAs and miRNA between different clinical tumor stages was performed, followed by target gene prediction of these differentially expressed miRNAs.Results
3 mRNAs (PER1, PRKAB1 and PMM2) and 5 miRNAs (hsa-mir-486, hsa-mir-451, hsa-mir-424, hsa-mir-144 and hsa-mir-450a-2) were overlapped from stage 1, stage 2, stage 3 and stage 4.Conclusions
Alterations of differentially expressed mRNAs and miRNAs may offer important insights into the molecular mechanisms in the pathology of CSCC. 相似文献5.

Objective
To describe the perspectives and experiences of athletic trainers, coaches, and student-athletes approximately three years post-implementation of the NCAA sickle cell trait (SCT) screening policy.Participants
Two-hundred and eight student-athletes, 32 athletic trainers, and 43 coaches from 10 NCAA Division I (DI) institutions in North Carolina from January to June 2014.Methods
Two online surveys were used to assess knowledge, perspectives, and experiences. Results
Athletic staff were more supportive than student-athletes of the need for the policy. Noted challenges included variation in implementation and follow-up for SCT-positive athletes, financial costs to institutions and athletes, and timing of the screening. Conclusions
More education about SCT is needed for student-athletes and athletic staff in order to help make the implementation more successful. All parties need to be in agreement regarding the importance of knowing which student-athletes have SCT and how that information will be utilized. 相似文献6.
Objective and design
We aimed to investigate the alterations of microRNA (miRNA) genomics in peripheral blood lymphocytes in experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) rats versus control samples.Materials/methods
Six Lewis rats received interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) emulsion to induce EAU. On day 12, peripheral blood lymphocytes were isolated, and total RNAs were extracted. Using microarray analysis, we analyzed the aberrant miRNAs, validated the relevant expression of differentially expressed miRNAs, and predicted the possible miRNA targets and signaling pathways. Results
The results indicated that 36 miRNAs were upregulated and 31 miRNAs were downregulated in EAU rats versus normal samples. Real-time quantitative PCR substantiated a high degree of confidence for the differentially expressed miRNAs, and miRNA analyses showed the differentially expressed miRNA targets were involved not only in the multicellular organismal process and developmental process, but also in T cell receptor signaling pathway, B cell receptor signaling pathway and so on.Conclusions
Our findings show that the differentially expressed miRNAs in EAU rats were closely associated with immune signaling pathways and may be applied in early prevention, prognosis and possible therapy in uveitis, indicating that miRNAs play an important role in the development of uveitis.7.

Objective
Pharmacists play a relevant role in the real-life management of asthma because they are a first-line referral for patients. In fact, the role of pharmacies has been underlined and evidenced also in guidelines. Nonetheless, the true effect of pharmacy-based management of asthma has been assessed in only a few studies. We review the available literature on asthma management in a territorial pharmacy setting.Data Sources
The literature was searched for the keywords pharmacy, bronchial asthma, control, and management.Study Selections
The available studies were subdivided into observational and interventional and described. Results
Seven observational studies and 14 interventional trials were found, involving approximately 20,000 individuals. Most of those studies were performed in Europe and Australia. A high proportion of patients had poorly controlled asthma in the observational studies. The active involvement of pharmacists, in the interventional trials, consistently led to an improvement of the quality of life, a better inhalation technique, and a reduction of exacerbations. Conclusion
The literature analysis confirms the relevance of the role of pharmacists in the real-life management of bronchial asthma and underlines the need for a more specific training for those health care professionals. 相似文献9.

Objective
To provide an overview of studies contributing to the understanding of immunologic, microbial, and epithelial interactions in atopic dermatitis.Data Sources
PubMed literature review (2000–2017) and meeting abstracts from recent international dermatology conferences.Study Selections
Articles discussing primarily human disease.Results
Clinical studies showed that atopic dermatitis is a type 2 immune-centered disease with a systemic inflammatory component but with heterogeneous treatment responses. This suggests that other factors are likely involved in shaping the skin disease phenotype, including microbial dysbiosis and epidermal barrier dysfunction. Conclusion
Recent clinical investigation has significantly expanded our knowledge on disease pathogenesis in atopic dermatitis, and current and future clinical trials will most likely further help to elucidate this complex, heterogeneous skin disease. 相似文献10.

Objective
To review our current understanding of immunotherapy, the immune mechanisms underlying food allergy, and the methodological advances that are furthering our understanding of the role of immune cells and other molecules in mediating food allergies.Data Sources
Literature searches were performed using the following combination of terms: allergy, immunotherapy, food, and mechanisms. Data from randomized clinical studies using state-of-the-art mechanistic tools were prioritized.Study Selections
Articles were selected based on their relevance to food allergy. Results
Current standard of care for food allergies is avoidance of allergenic foods and the use of epinephrine in case of severe reaction during unintentional ingestion. During the last few decades, great strides have been made in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying food allergy, and this information is spearheading the development of exciting new treatments. Conclusion
Immunotherapy protocols are effective in desensitizing individuals to specific allergens; however, recurrence of allergic sensitization is common after discontinuation of therapy. Interestingly, in a subset of individuals, immunotherapy is protective against allergens even after discontinuation of immunotherapy. Whether this protection is permanent is currently unknown because of inadequate long-term follow-up data. Research on understanding the underlying mechanisms may assist in modifying protocols to improve outcome and enable sustained unresponsiveness, rather than a temporary relief against food allergies. The cellular changes brought about by immunotherapy are still a black box, but major strides in our understanding are being made at an exciting pace. 相似文献11.

Background/Purpose
African American women are diagnosed with breast cancer at later stages and have higher mortality rates than white women. The Patient Voices Network (PVN), a community group whose vision is “a community of educated and involved patients working hand in hand with physicians in making decisions about their own health care,” conceived of and implemented a walk to raise awareness of breast cancer and link women to screening resources in a low-income, urban communityObjectives
To describe the planning and implementation of the Concerned About You: Breast Cancer Awareness Walk & Wellness Event and its impact on an academic community partnership. Methods
A narrative approach was used. Meeting minutes and event planning notes were reviewed. Community participation rates and participant satisfaction were tracked using registration records and a survey administered at the event. Results
328 community members registered and 194 attended. Responses to a satisfaction survey indicated community buy-in and interest in future events. Two women were screened at the event and 78 were screened at a follow-up opportunity at their primary care practices. The process was driven by participatory guidelines and laid the foundation for future activities. Conclusions
Community input addressed the need for screening mammography in an underserved community. The partnership approach featured complementary strengths of both patients and University staff, fostered skill building and co-learning, and ultimately strengthened our partnership. A partnered approach may be effective in engaging hard-to-reach populations to address health disparities. 相似文献12.

Objective
To evaluate the published medical literature on the prevalence and types of food allergies in South Asia.Data Sources
A PubMed search was performed using the keywords India and food allergy, Asia and food allergy, and South Asia and food allergy for any period. Articles cited in selected studies were reviewed for their appropriateness of inclusion into this review.Study Selections
Publications were included that were original research and fit the topic of food allergy and South Asia. South Asia is defined as region inclusive of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Results
A total of 169 articles were initially identified, and 47 were reviewed in detail for inclusion in this review. The primary focus was placed on 10 studies that consisted of case reports of newly reported or documented food allergy, survey studies that investigated food allergy prevalence in specific demographics, and prospective and cross-sectional studies with case controls, all of which investigated food allergy prevalence by allergy testing in a selected population. Conclusion
The medical literature on the prevalence and types of food allergy in South Asia indicates that there is a variety of unusual and unique allergens and an overall low incidence of food allergy. There is also an association of increased food allergy prevalence in individuals who live in metropolitan regions or who migrate to communities that have adopted westernization. 相似文献13.
Background
The reported associations of blood lipid profiles with asthma are ambiguous. Objective
To explore the association between asthma and the serum levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).Methods
A systematic search was performed in the PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Chinese Biomedical Literature databases. Ten studies were identified. We divided these studies into 2 subgroups according to age: children (<18 years old) and adults (≥18 years old). Results
In children, the asthma group had lower HDL-C levels (weighted mean difference, ?3.44; 95% confidence interval [CI], ?5.83 to ?1.04; P = .005) compared with the nonasthma group, whereas the serum levels of LDL-C in these 2 groups were not statistically different. In contrary, in adults, the asthma group had higher LDL-C levels (weighted mean difference, 8.95; 95% confidence interval, 3.55–14.35; P = .001) compared with the nonasthma group, whereas the HDL-C levels were not statistically different. Conclusion
There is a significant association between asthma and the serum levels of HDL-C and LDL-C. Moreover, this association differs in children and adults. 相似文献14.

Objectives
The menopause is a natural biological process that is happened by a permanent regal stop due to the loss of performance. The aim of this research is to evaluate the effect of lavender aromatherapy on the menopause symptoms.Study design
This double-blind cross over clinical trial carried out on 100 menopause women (between 45 and 155 years old) referring to health centers in Ardabil in 2013-14. The samples blocked randomly, placed in two experimental (Lavender) and control (diluted milk) groups. Lavender aroma is smelled two times daily for 20 min during 12 weeks by research subjects. Data were collected by Green questionnaire and the analysis of data carried out in SPSS v.16 by paired t-test.Main outcome measures
The level of the symptoms has been decreased significantly after using lavender. Results
Comparing the level of the symptoms before and after using lavender in experimental group suggested that the rate of the menopause symptoms has been decreased significantly (P = 0.000). The comparison of the mean of the menopause symptoms after intervention between two groups suggested that the menopause symptoms in the experimental group had a significant decrease comparing the control group (P = 0.000).Conclusion
Using the lavender aromatherapy decreases menopause symptoms. According to the undesirable effect of the menopause symptoms on the quality of life of the menopausal women, these interventions may be instructed by midwives in the treatment and care centers as a health activity. 相似文献16.

Objective
To provide physicians, researchers, and other interested health care professionals with information about how mite source materials and allergen extracts are manufactured, including the critical process parameters that can affect the final composition of allergenic extracts available for clinical use.Data Sources
A PubMed search was performed using focused keywords combined with relevant regulatory documents and industry guidelines.Study Selections
The information obtained through literature and specialized books was evaluated and combined with the personal expertise and experience of the authors. Results
Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus are the primary species responsible for allergen sensitizations and allergy symptoms in genetically predisposed individuals. Storage mites belonging to the families Glycyphagidae, Echimyopodidae, and Acaridae can also be relevant sources of indoor mite allergens. The cultivation and purification processes used to produce mite raw materials play a critical role in the final composition of mite allergen extracts. Mite extract standardization in the United States is based on total allergenic activity with respect to a single national standard, whereas in Europe consistency is ensured by in-house standards and international references. Because of the limitation of allergen avoidance and pharmacotherapy for patients with severe allergic rhinitis and asthma, house dust mite subcutaneous immunotherapy or sublingual immunotherapy can be an invaluable treatment option for them. Conclusion
Differences in manufacturing processes and extract standardization approaches may lead to differences in extract quality and potency. Physicians should be aware of these potential sources of mite extract variability. Use of well-standardized house dust mite extracts would be critical for success in the diagnosis and treatment of house dust mite allergy. 相似文献17.

Background
Although the severity of hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media varies, it is well correlated with the severity of recurrent reactions; however, prophylaxis protocols are not severity-stratified.Objective
To assess the outcomes of tailored prophylaxis according to the severity of hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media. Methods
Our premedication protocols were stratified based on the severity of previous reactions: (1) 4 mg of chlorpheniramine for mild reactions, (2) adding 40 mg of methylprednisolone for moderate reactions, and (3) adding multiple doses of 40 mg of methylprednisolone for severe index reactions. Cases of reexposure in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions were routinely monitored and mandatorily recorded. Results
Among a total of 850 patients who underwent enhanced computed tomography after severity-tailored prophylaxis, breakthrough reactions occurred in 17.1%, but most breakthrough reactions (89.0%) were mild and did not require medical treatment. Additional corticosteroid use did not reduce the breakthrough reaction rate in cases with a mild index reaction (16.8% vs 17.2%, P = .70). However, underpremedication with a single dose of corticosteroid revealed significantly higher rates of breakthrough reaction than did double doses of corticosteroid in cases with a severe index reaction (55.6% vs 17.4%, P = .02). Changing the iodinated contrast media resulted in an additional reduction of the breakthrough reaction rate overall (14.9% vs 32.1%, P = .001).Conclusion
In a total severity-based stratified prophylaxis regimens and changing iodinated contrast media can be considered in patients with a history of previous hypersensitivity reaction to iodinated contrast media to reduce the risk of breakthrough reactions. 相似文献18.

Background/Purposes
Monascin (MS) and ankaflavin (AK) produced by Monascus purpureus NTU 568 were proven to show excellent hypolipidemic effects in our previous studies; however, the mechanism is still unclear. Methods
This study used MS, AK, and monacolin K as test substances and performed tests on rats fed high-fat and high-cholesterol diet for 8 weeks. The lipid levels and the related protein levels of the rats were assessed to understand the effects of MS, AK, and monacolin K on lipid metabolism. Results
MS and AK lowered low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and preserved high-density lipoprotein cholesterol contents. MS and AK inhibited acetyl-coenzyme A acetyltransferase, microsomal triglyceride transfer protein, and apolipoprotein (apo) B-100 expression, thereby preventing LDL assembly. In addition, enhanced LDL-receptor expression increased the transport of LDL-C to the liver for metabolism. MS and AK also significantly increase apo A1 expression, which facilitates high-density lipoprotein cholesterol formation. Conclusion
Monascus-fermented MS and AK can perform blood lipid regulation via the suppression of LDL-C assembly and stimulation of apo A1 expression in liver. 相似文献19.

Background/Purpose
In this study, an acidophilic actinobacteria strain was used as a novel reducing agent for a single-step synthesis of nanostructure silver particles. We used a Streptacidiphilus durhamensis HGG16n isolate for efficient synthesis of bioactive silver nanoparticles [bio(AgNPs)] in an inexpensive, eco-friendly, and nontoxic manner. The obtained bio(AgNPs) exhibited unique physicochemical and biochemical properties. Methods
Structural, morphological, and optical properties of the synthesized biocolloids were characterized by spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and electron microscopy approaches. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated using the well- and disc-diffusion methods. Results
The obtained crystalline structure and stable biosynthesized silver nanoparticles ranged in size from 8 nm to 48 nm and were mostly spherical in shape. Antimicrobial assays of the silver nanoparticles against pathogenic bacteria showed the highest antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Proteus mirabilis, followed by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Bacillus subtilis. Moreover, the synergistic effect of bio(AgNPs) with various commercially available antibiotics was also evaluated. Conclusion
These results provide insight into the development of new antimicrobial agents along with synergistic enhancement of the antibacterial mechanism against clinical bacteria. 相似文献20.
