Efficacy of protective effect of aminopropylamino-ethylthiophosphate in neutron beam, gamma or X-irradiation of mice (author's transl)

The efficacy of the radioprotective agent aminopropylamino-ethylthiophosphate (WR 2721) was tested against different kinds of radiation on female NMRI-mice. The animals were divided into 4 groups and were exposed to neutrons as main component, to secondary gamma rays in a tissue-equivalent phantom, to pure gamma rays and to X-rays respectively. The following dose reduction factors have been obtained: 1.05 for neutron-irradiation, 1.33 for gamma irradiation in tissue-equivalent phantom, 1.69 for pure gamma rays and 2.08 for X-rays. The protective agent WR 2721 is apparently more efficient against low LET radiation. The mechanism of protection has been discussed in this respect.     

Xeroradiography in the investigation of muscular diseases in pediatric age (author's transl)

A comparison is made between xeroradiography and traditional radiography in 43 patients suffering from myopathies in pediatric age. Only eight of the patients had a neurological genesis. Xeroradiography results to be much more useful in the early diagnosis of muscular disorders and in the correct definition of the disease.

The role of radiological examination in detecting the early colonic cancer is considered. A cost-benefit evaluation between conventional barium enema and double contrast enema justifies the use of D.C.E. for the early detection of colonic cancer.     

Angiographic abnormalities after punch-biopsy of the liver (author's transl)

The authors report on 10 cases of complications during punch-biopsy of the liver, an arterio-portal fistula being the one most frequently encountered (8 out of 10 cases). The clinical condition improved in 9 cases out of 10. The authors stress the frequency of arterioportal fistula after punch-biopsy of the liver (60% it arteriography is carried out during the first week). They recall the benign character of these fistulae and their tendency towards spontaneous healing.     

Accuracy of triple-diagnosis of the "small" carcinoma of the mamma (author's transl)

Mammography was carried out in 3,500 patients. Of these 1,800 were examined with plate-thermography and in 450 cytology was done. 12 cases of "small" (10 mm) Ca were found, in 3 cases with thermography. In 4 cases thermography was negative, in one case for technical reasons. Mammography is the method of choice, thermography and cytology are valuable aids.
