OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of intrauterine insemination (IUI) in a donor insemination program. DESIGN: Prospective randomized clinical trial. SETTING: Donor insemination program. PATIENTS, PARTICIPANTS: Women undergoing insemination were randomly assigned to receive either IUI or intracervical insemination for a maximum of six cycles. INTERVENTIONS: None. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Cycle fecundity rates between the two routes were compared. RESULTS: The monthly fecundity rate for intracervical insemination was 5.1% compared with 23% by IUI. By life table analysis, pregnancy rates for IUI were significantly higher than intracervical insemination (P = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Intrauterine insemination with quarantined donor sperm is superior to intracervical insemination.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether artificial insemination with frozen donor sperm yielded a higher pregnancy rate per cycle by intracervical (ICI) or intrauterine (IUI) techniques. A meta-analysis was performed. DATA IDENTIFICATION: A computerized MEDLINE search of the English-language literature on artificial insemination with donor sperm was performed and augmented by a review of meeting abstract books and references in published papers. STUDY SELECTION: Only prospective randomized studies that reported monthly fecundity rates for IUI and ICI with frozen donor sperm were included. DATA ANALYSIS: Seven studies were identified. The odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were determined with use of the general estimating equation method for the three studies for which raw data could be obtained. For the remaining four studies, the OR and CI were assessed with use of the published summary data. A random-effects meta-analysis was then performed. RESULT: Intrauterine insemination resulted in a significantly higher monthly fecundity rate with a common OR of 2.4 (CI 1.5-3.8). CONCLUSION: On the basis of this meta-analysis of the seven prospective studies, IUI results in higher pregnancy rates than ICI for frozen donor insemination.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the optimum number of cycles of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and intrauterine insemination in the treatment of unexplained infertility. DESIGN: Observational prospective study. SETTING: In vitro fertilization embryo transfer center. PATIENT(S): Five hundred ninety-four couples with unexplained infertility. INTERVENTION(S): Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH), intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Cycle fecundity. RESULT(S): One to 3 cycles of COH/IUI were performed in 594 patients (group A) undergoing 1,112 cycles (mean, 1.9 cycles/patient). Up to 3 further trials (cycles 4-6) of COH/IUI were then performed in 91 of these women (group B), a total of 161 cycles (mean, 1.8 cycles/patient). A historical comparison group C consisted of 131 patients with 3 failed cycles of COH/IUI who underwent 1 cycle of IVF and ICSI at our center. In group A, 182 pregnancies occurred, with a cycle fecundity of 16.4% and a cumulative pregnancy rate (PR) of 39.2% after the first 3 cycles. In group B, 9 pregnancies occurred in cycles 4-6, with a cycle fecundity of 5.6%, significantly lower than that of group A (P<.001). The cumulative PR rose to 48.5% by cycle 6, a further increase of only 9.3%. In the women undergoing IVF and ICSI in group C, 48 pregnancies occurred, with a cycle fecundity of 36.6% per cycle, significantly higher than that of group B (P<.001). CONCLUSION(S): In unexplained infertility, the cycle fecundity in the first three trials of COH and IUI was higher than in cycles 4-6, with a statistically significant difference. Patients should be offered IVF or ICSI if they fail to conceive after three trials of COH and IUI.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and intracervical insemination (ICI) when used by fertile single women in a donor insemination program. DESIGN: Prospective randomized crossover study. SETTING: Donor insemination program (not an infertility clinic). PATIENT(S): Single fertile women choosing to inseminate with frozen donor semen. INTERVENTION(S): Clients received procreative counseling and screening and were then randomly assigned to begin office insemination with ICI or IUI. If additional insemination cycles were required, the clients used the method opposite their previous method of insemination until pregnancy was achieved. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Monthly fecundity rate was compared between the two methods of insemination. RESULT(S): Sixty-two women contributed a total of 189 cycles, 94 by IUI and 95 by ICI. The monthly fecundity rate for IUI was 15%, as compared with 9% for ICI, (P=0.14). When the analysis was confined to cycles in which only one insemination was performed (64 IUI and 65 ICI cycles), the monthly fecundity rates were 14% for IUI and 5% for ICI (P=0.04). CONCLUSION(S): Intrauterine insemination with frozen donor sperm is more effective than intracervical insemination for single women without known fertility problems.  相似文献

Cryopreserved sperm have lowered fertility when compared with fresh sperm in artificial insemination by donor programs. The purpose of this study was to compare pregnancy rates following intrauterine insemination (IUI) and intracervical insemination (ICI) with cryopreserved sperm in a prospective trial using the patient as her own control. A total of 154 patients were randomized into alternating treatment cycles and underwent 238 cycles of IUI and 229 cycles of ICI. The pregnancy rate per treatment cycle was 9.7% following IUI and 3.9% following ICI. Treatment outcome was influenced by patient age, ovulatory status, and endometriosis. Pregnancy success correlated well with the post-thaw survival of sperm and the number of motile cells inseminated. In spite of having normal semen parameters, some donors were found to have markedly reduced sperm fecundity. We conclude that IUI with cryopreserved sperm can be an effective treatment for couples with infertility, genetic indications, or other reasons.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: We compared the pregnancy rates (PRs) after intrauterine insemination (IUI) with frozen donor sperm prepared in Ham's F-10 medium (Irvine Scientific, Santa Ana, CA) with bicarbonate buffer and synthetic human tubal fluid with HEPES buffer (Irvine Scientific). DESIGN: Women (n = 101) were randomized upon entry into the program, receiving sperm prepared in either Ham's F-10 or human tubal fluid medium their first treatment cycle. If pregnancy did not occur, the alternate medium was used to prepared sperm for the following cycle. SETTING: All patients were treated in our private care center. PATIENTS: Patients entering this study were normally ovulating women undergoing IUI with frozen donor sperm. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Pregnancy was used as our main outcome measure of success. RESULTS: After 324 cycles of treatment, the PR per cycle of IUI was 17.5% with sperm prepared in human tubal fluid which was significantly different (P = 0.05) from the PR (9.8%) after insemination with sperm prepared in Ham's F-10. There was no statistical difference in the number of motile cells inseminated in each of these groups. CONCLUSIONS: Transitory exposure of the sperm in Ham's F-10 medium to the environment during preparation for insemination may result in an alkalinization of the medium that has a lasting influence on sperm fertility.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare the results of fallopian tube sperm perfusion (FSP) versus standard intrauterine insemination (IUI) in patients with unexplained infertility undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). DESIGN: Randomized, prospective, cross-over study. SETTING: Reproductive medicine unit of a university hospital. PATIENT(S): Fifty-six couples with unexplained infertility. INTERVENTION(S): COH was induced by recombinant FSH and monitored by serial transvaginal ultrasound. On the day of hCG administration during the first treatment cycle, patients were randomized to either IUI or FSP. Thereafter, in case no pregnancy was achieved, patients went on being treated with FSP and IUI in alternate cycles. A maximum of four treatment cycles per couple was performed. FSP was performed using a pediatric Foley's catheter inseminating 4 mL of sperm-enriched suspension; a Kremer-Delafontaine catheter delivering 0.5 mL of sperm suspension was used for IUI. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Clinical pregnancy rate per cycle. RESULT(S): One hundred twenty-seven cycles (58 FSP, 69 IUI) were performed. The clinical pregnancy rate per cycle was 21.7% for IUI and 8.6% for FSP, respectively. No major adverse effects were recorded for either technique. CONCLUSION(S): After COH, FSP is less effective than IUI in couples with unexplained infertility.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine possible benefits of sperm processing and intrauterine insemination (IUI) for a group of men with a varicocele history who had not achieved a pregnancy by natural coitus (mean duration of infertility 42.2 months). DESIGN: A retrospective study including infertile men with varicoceles who were classified by their semen analyses and sperm penetration assays (SPAs). SETTING: Private practice of infertility. PATIENTS: Seventy-one infertile couples. The husbands had a varicocele history and were grouped into four clinical categories (14 untreated, 5 medical treatment, 34 varicocelectomies, and 18 varicocelectomies plus medical treatment). The wives were studied or treated before IUI. INTERVENTIONS: Varicocelectomies were performed on the males when indicated. Female studies included laparoscopies as indicated intrauterine insemination with Tomcat catheter (Sherwood Medical, St. Louis, MO) was performed in all cases. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Overall pregnancy rates (PRs) and fecundity rates with sperm processing and IUI. RESULTS: Six pregnancies occurred with 66 cycles of sperm processing and IUI among 28 men with normal SPAs (PR 21%, fecundity rate = 0.09). In contrast, there were no pregnancies with 121 cycles among 43 varicocele patients with abnormal SPA results or with low values for all three semen parameters. CONCLUSIONS: Sperm processing and IUI may be beneficial for selected patients with varicoceles who had not achieved a pregnancy by coitus.  相似文献

Predictors of success with the use of donor sperm   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
OBJECTIVE: This study was undertaken to assess the effect of multiple factors that influence the success rate and time to conception among couples undergoing donor sperm insemination. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective analysis of 960 cycles of frozen donor sperm insemination was performed at the University of Florida. Cycle pregnancy rates and cumulative probability of pregnancy were compared using several variables. RESULTS: The pregnancy rate was 12.1% per treatment cycle, and the cumulative probability of pregnancy exceeded 80% for the entire cohort. Seventy percent of pregnancies resulted in a liveborn infant. Age had a profound impact on the cycle pregnancy rate. The cycle pregnancy rates for women younger than 30 years, between the ages of 30 and 35 years, between the ages of 35 and 40 years, and older than 40 years were 15.8%, 14.6%, 8.2%, and 0%, respectively. There was a trend toward higher cycle pregnancy rates in women with prior pregnancies versus women without prior pregnancies of 14.4% and 12.3%, respectively. Parity had no effect on the cycle pregnancy rate or the cumulative probability of pregnancy. There was a trend toward higher cumulative probability of pregnancy in women whose partners were azoospermic versus oligospermic. There was no difference in pregnancy rates obtained with the Percoll wash gradient versus the Isolate gradient. At >20 million total motile sperm per insemination, there was no threshold above which the pregnancy rate was improved. CONCLUSION: The most significant influence on pregnancy rates in the donor sperm insemination program at the University of Florida was maternal age. Nulligravidity and a diagnosis of mild oligospermia in the man may have a negative impact on pregnancy rates.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare a single periovulatory intrauterine insemination (IUI) with a regimen employing two IUIs, one before ovulation and one after ovulation, in patients undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with human menopausal gonadotropins (hMG) combined with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). DESIGN: A randomized, prospective trial. PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-one consecutive patients undergoing 49 cycles of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation/IUI were studied in a tertiary care setting. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Ovulation was determined sonographically. The establishment of a clinical pregnancy was defined by either ultrasonographic verification of cardiac activity within an intrauterine fetus, or histologic confirmation of trophoblast in a surgical specimen. RESULTS: Clinical pregnancies developed in 2 of 23 cycles in the single insemination group, compared with 12 of the 23 cycles in the double insemination group. Cycle fecundity was significantly higher for group II (0.522) than for group I (0.087) patients (P = 0.003). CONCLUSION: In hMG/hCG cycles, two IUIs timed as described above are superior to one periovulatory insemination.  相似文献

Objective: To compare the pregnancy rates, between intrauterine insemination (IUI) followed by timed intercourse and IUI only for treatment of the infertile couples. Study design: A prospective study of two different protocols of intrauterine insemination in two hundred and one infertile couples with a normal spermiogram was carried out. Of these, 101 couples were treated with IUI alone and 100 couples had both IUI and timed intercourse within a 12-18 h period. The pregnancy rates were compared between groups. Results: The characteristics of the two groups were similar in terms of the mean age, as well as the duration and causes of infertility. The cycle characteristics following follicular stimulation were also similar between two groups. The pregnancy rate per cycle increased with increasing numbers of total motile sperm per insemination in the IUI alone group (P=0.045). Timed intercourse increased pregnancy rate in patients with lower motile sperm number (<40×106) (27.7% versus 10.5%, P=0.023), but not in patients with higher sperm number (≥40×106) (25.7% versus 22.7%, P=0.671). Conclusions: In IUI with low number of motile sperm inseminated, timed intercourse significantly increases the pregnancy rates over IUI alone in infertile couples with a normal sperminogram. This alternative treatment appears to be a practical, simple, and inexpensive addition that improves the pregnancy rate in patients receiving ovulation induction and intrauterine insemination program.  相似文献

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of fallopian sperm perfusion (FSP) using a new method similar to the FAST system® in comparison with standard intrauterine insemination (IUI) in patients with unexplained infertility.

Design: Prospective, randomized, controlled study.

Setting: Assisted conception service in a University Hospital.

Patient(s): Women with unexplained infertility undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH).

Intervention(s): After hCG administration, patients were randomized to either standard IUI or FSP. The women received the same treatment in the first and all subsequent cycles. A maximum of three cycles was performed. Intrauterine insemination was performed using a standard method, and fallopian sperm perfusion was performed using a commercial device for hysterosalpingography and tubal hydropertubation.

Main Outcome Measure(s): Clinical and ongoing pregnancy rates.

Result(s): A total of 132 cycles was completed: 66 IUI cycles and 66 FSP cycles. In the IUI group, there were 5 ongoing pregnancies, giving a pregnancy rate of 7.6 per cycle and 15.6% per patient; in the FSP group, 14 ongoing pregnancies occurred, giving a pregnancy rate of 21.2% per cycle and 42.4% per patient. The prevalence of multiple pregnancies, miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies was similar in the two insemination groups. Fallopian sperm perfusion was easy to perform, and no case of sperm reflux was observed. The procedure was well tolerated and no complications were observed. The costs were comparable with standard IUI.

Conclusion(s): In the treatment of couples with unexplained infertility, the method for fallopian sperm perfusion described yields higher pregnancy rates than IUI, with no significant increase in costs or complications. However, these results need to be confirmed in larger studies before replacing IUI with FSP as standard practice.  相似文献

Semen parameters of raw and prepared (post-swim-up) specimens from 451 cycles of intrauterine insemination (IUI) were analyzed in relation to cycle fecundity in 232 patients undergoing ovarian stimulation with sequential clomiphene citrate/menotropin therapy. Pregnancy occurred in 42 cycles, resulting in an overall pregnancy rate of 17.7%, and a cycle fecundity of 9.3%. Cycle fecundity was positively correlated with the parameters of post-swim-up log sperm density (r = 0.994), and with log total motile sperm inseminated (r = 0.964; inseminates were limited to a maximum of 20 million total motile sperm). Post-swim-up motility did not correlate (r = 0.308) with cycle fecundity; however, most specimens had a motility of greater than 40% post-swim-up. Only one pregnancy occurred when less than 1 million motile sperm were inseminated (38 cycles), which resulted in a cycle fecundity of 2.6% for these cycles. This may represent the threshold of effectiveness for IUI in this setting. Highest cycle fecundity was obtained with an inseminate containing approximately 10 million or more motile sperm. Parameters of raw samples correlated less well with cycle fecundity than did prepared specimens. Analysis of post-swim-up semen parameters can provide useful prognostic information for women undergoing IUI with ovarian stimulation; this information is helpful in counseling patients regarding their chances of success with this therapy.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of the limitation at 6 cycles of artificial insemination in a program of sperm donation. STUDY DESIGN: 266 couples included in a program of sperm donation underwent 1,354 cycles including 532 intracervical insemination (ICI), 678 intrauterine insemination (IUI) and 133 in vitro fertilization (IVF). RESULTS: The birth rate by cycle was 10.8% in ICI, 18% in IUI, 21.9% in IVF. The risk of multiple pregnancies was 0% in ICI, 13% in IUI, 33% in IVF. The authors feign then two strategies, the first one with 6 ICI followed by 6 IUI, and the other one with 6 IUI alone. The birth rate, the risk of multiple pregnancies and the cost of these two strategies is discussed. CONCLUSION: The restriction to 6 IA Cycles in a donor semen program does not change the birth rate, but increases the multiple pregnancy rate and the cost of the treatment of these patients.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine how advancing female age decreases successful outcomes of intrauterine insemination (IUI) alone or combined with ovarian stimulation. DESIGN: Retrospective review. SETTING: Academic fertility center. PATIENT(S): Infertile men and women. INTERVENTION(S): Intrauterine insemination alone or combined with ovarian stimulation. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Pregnancy rates, miscarriage rates, and live birth rates per insemination cycle according to female age. RESULT(S): The 1,117 cycles of IUI resulted in 217 pregnancies, for an overall pregnancy rate for all female ages of 19.4% and a live birth rate of 12.9% per cycle inseminated. The overall live birth rate per insemination declined with advancing maternal age. CONCLUSION(S): Advancing female age decreases successful outcomes with IUI. The live birth rate with IUI for women 40-42 years old (n = 82) was 9.8% per insemination and may demonstrate that IUI is an appropriate treatment for this age group of women.  相似文献

STUDY OBJECTIVE: The efficacy of intrauterine insemination (IUI) of selected motile sperm. DESIGN: Prospective randomized sequential alternating cycle trial comparing IUI with luteinizing hormone (LH)-timed intercourse. SETTING: Clinical infertility service. PATIENTS: Couples selected included unexplained infertility (n = 73), cervical mucus hostility (n = 24), moderate semen defect (n = 110), and severe semen defect (n = 78). Two hundred eighty-five couples undertook 600 IUI cycles and 505 LH-timed intercourse. RESULTS: Overall, IUI was slightly more effective than LH-timed intercourse with a pregnancy rate of 6.2% versus 3.4% per cycle. When individual categories were considered only, IUI for severe semen defect was significantly better (5.6% versus 1.3%, P less than 0.05). The first IUI cycle was more effective when compared with both subsequent IUI cycles and the initial LH-timed cycle. Overall, 74% (27/37) of IUI pregnancies occurred in the first cycle. CONCLUSIONS: Compared with LH-timed intercourse, IUI provided little or no improved expectation of pregnancy but was beneficial in couples with severe semen defect. The occurrence of pregnancy was limited per cycle and confined essentially to the initial cycle of treatment. Continued IUI is considered to be unrewarding.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between seminal hyperviscosity and pregnancy outcome in patients undergoing ovarian hyperstimulation and intrauterine insemination (IUI). METHODS: Patients were enrolled in the study between October 2002 and December 2003 at the Toronto Centre for Advanced Reproductive Technology. This was a prospective trial that included 37 infertile couples with abnormal seminal viscosity who underwent 57 insemination cycles as treatment for infertility (group I) and 37 couples undergoing 51 IUI cycles during the same time period, with normal semen viscosity, who served as controls (group II). Cycles were stimulated using either gonadotropin (FSH) only or FSH combined with an aromatase inhibitor, and raw semen processed for intrauterine insemination using swim-up or density gradient. Results-The mean number (+/-SD) of IUI cycles was 1.93 +/- 1.42 per patient (range 1 to 7 cycles) in group I and 2.4 +/- 1.05 (range 1 to 4) in group II. The overall pregnancy rate (PR) was 14% (8/57) and 11.8% (6/51) per cycle, and 21.6% (8/37) and 16.2% (6/37) per patient in group I and in group II, respectively. Among patients where the male had seminal hyperviscosity, five (62.5%) pregnancies miscarried in the first trimester; there was no miscarriage in the control group. Conclusion: The high miscarriage rate in couples with semen hyperviscosity may be attributed to biophysical alterations or chemical changes of the ejaculate that could impact sperm quality despite normal sperm parameters on semen analysis.  相似文献

Objective: Our objective was to assess parameters associated with a successful outcome of intrauterine insemination (IUI) using cryopreserved donor sperm. Design: We analyzed 750 consecutive donor IUI cycles undertaken by 363 women in an assisted conception clinic. The main outcome measure was clinical pregnancy. Results: IUI was performed in 94.7% of the 750 IUI treatment cycles commenced and 180 clinical pregnancies occurred. The clinical pregnancy rate per cycle was 26.4%. The rate was significantly related to the patient's age (30.5% for age 35 years and 18.1% for age >35 years;P<0.006) and whether there was one or more than one preovulatory follicles [20.9, 34.4, and 31.5% for one, two, and three or four follicles with a mean diameter of 14 or more mm at the time of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) administration;P=0.006]. Two to four preovulatory follicles were present in 12.6% of the natural cycles, 43.6% of clomiphene citrate or tamoxifen, and 59.9% of gonadotropin stimulated cycles. The difference in the number of preovulatory follicles between stimulated and unstimulated cycles was highly significant (P<0.0001). Pregnancy rates were 29.9% in gonadotropin-stimulated cycles, 23.6% in clomiphene citrate- or tamoxifen-stimulated cycles, and 20.1% in unstimulated cycles. The difference in pregnancy rates between gonadotropin-stimulated and natural cycles was significant (P=0.038). Cycle fecundity rates were not significantly affected by the number of previous treatment cycles, duration of infertility, gravidity and parity of the patient, presence of a spontaneous luteinizing hormone (LH) surge before the administration of hCG, or number of motile sperm in the insemination specimen. Conclusions: Success of IUI using cryopreserved donor sperm is related to the age of the women and whether there is one or more than one preovulatory follicles.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To study the efficacy of performing two inseminations per cycle in IUI with husband's sperm compared with one insemination per cycle. DESIGN: Meta-analysis. SETTING: Randomized and prospective trials comparing two inseminations vs. one insemination per cycle in IUI with husband's sperm, retrieved by MEDLINE and Cochrane Library searches (1966-2001) and a manual search of the abstracts of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology and American Society for Reproductive Medicine annual meetings (1990-2001). PATIENT(S): A total of 865 patients underwent 1156 cycles of IUI with husband's sperm. INTERVENTION(S): After different ovarian stimulation protocols, one or two inseminations were performed. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Pregnancy rate per cycle. Detected studies were tested for homogeneity. Because heterogeneity was observed, DerSimonian-Laird relative risk with alleatory effects was used. RESULT(S): Six randomized and prospective trials involving 865 patients and 1156 cycles were identified. There was remarkable heterogeneity among the different studies concerning methodology, especially regarding ovarian cycle management and the timing of inseminations. Although the pregnancy rate per cycle was somewhat higher in the two-inseminations-per-cycle group (14.9% vs. 11.4%), there were no statistically significant differences (relative risk = 1.34; 95% confidence interval 0.90-1.99). CONCLUSION(S): No significant differences were observed when two inseminations per cycle were performed, compared with one insemination. There was great heterogeneity concerning ovarian management and insemination timing. This heterogeneity hampered the analysis. We detected a better pregnancy rate with two inseminations vs. one insemination when clomiphene citrate with or without gonadotropins and 5000 IU of hCG were used. More studies are necessary to ascertain whether this is true or merely an artifact from the multiple subgroups analysis.  相似文献

The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the results of intrauterine insemination (IUI) in The Netherlands, using data from 2003 taken from hospital annual reports and reports from individual gynaecologists. By extrapolation, the total number of IUI cycles performed that year nationwide, and the related outcomes, was estimated. IUI was performed in 91 of the country's 101 hospitals. Of these, 58 (64%) registered their IUI results and performed 19,846 IUI cycles. The mean pregnancy rate per cycle was 9.0% and the ongoing pregnancy rate per cycle was 7.3%. Multiple pregnancies occurred in 9.5% of the ongoing pregnancies. Extrapolation of the data suggested that approximately 28,500 IUI cycles were performed, of which approximately 2000 resulted in an ongoing pregnancy. The number of multiple pregnancies following IUI was estimated to be 180 (9.0%). According to the national IVF registry, 9761 IVF cycles were started in 2003, resulting in 2,028 ongoing pregnancies (20.8% per cycle) and 439 twin pregnancies (21.6% per ongoing pregnancy). In conclusion, the pregnancy rate per IUI cycle in The Netherlands (9.0%) was comparable with that reported in the international literature (8.7%). The contribution made by IUI to the number of multiple pregnancies in The Netherlands was much smaller than the contribution made by IVF.  相似文献
