INTRODUCTION

The aim of this systematic review is to describe the use of cadavers in postgraduate surgical training, to determine the effect of cadaveric training sessions on surgical trainees'' technical skills performance and to determine how trainees perceive the use of cadaveric workshops as a training tool.

METHODS

An electronic literature search was performed, restricted to the English language, of MEDLINE®, Embase™, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL®), Centre for Agricultural Bioscience (CAB) Abstracts, the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC™) database, the British Education Index, the Australian Education Index, the Cochrane Library and the Best Evidence in Medical Education website. Studies that were eligible for review included primary studies evaluating the use of human cadaveric surgical workshops for surgical skills training in postgraduate surgical trainees and those that included a formal assessment of skills performance or trainee satisfaction after the training session.

RESULTS

Eight studies were identified as satisfying the eligibility criteria. One study showed a benefit from cadaveric workshop training with regard to the ability of trainees to perform relatively simple emergency procedures and one showed weak evidence of a benefit in performing more complex surgical procedures. Three studies showed that trainees valued the experience of cadaveric training.

CONCLUSIONS

Evidence for the effectiveness of cadaveric workshops in surgical training is currently limited. In particular, there is little research into how these workshops improve the performance of surgical trainees during subsequent live surgery. However, both trainees and assessors hold them in high regard and feel they help to improve operative skills. Further research into the role of cadaveric workshops is required.  相似文献

Objective

Throughout North America, increasing emphasis is being placed on surgical fellowships. Surgical educators and trainees have raised concerns that the escalating focus on fellowships may threaten the educational mission of more novice trainees. Our objective was to collect opinions from multiple perspectives (faculty, fellows and residents) regarding fellowship structure, fellow selection and the impact of clinical fellowships on urology resident training.

Methods

We anonymously surveyed 52 members of a major academic urology training program (University of Toronto) with established fellowship training programs for their opinions regarding fellowship structure, fellow selection, and the impact on resident training and education.

Results

The overall response rate was 88%. We identified significant differences of opinion among faculty, fellows and residents regarding fellowship structure, fellow selection and the impact on resident education. Specifically, faculty and fellows supported the addition of more fellows, felt that certain complex cases should be designated as “fellow cases” and that residents'' research opportunities were not restricted. Residents felt that fellows “steal” operative cases, that performing operations with the fellow is not equivalent to performing operations with faculty alone and that fellowship candidates should perform an operation with division faculty as part of the application process. There was agreement that fellowship programs add value to residents'' overall education, that fellows should participate in the call schedule and that fellows'' role in the operating room needs to be better defined with respect to case volume and selection. Proficiency in technical skills, clinical knowledge, teaching and teamwork were cited as the most attractive characteristics of an effective clinical fellow.

Conclusion

Residency and fellowship program directors must clearly define the role of the fellow and outline the limits of surgical practice, establish clear and consistent guidelines outlining responsibilities (operative, clinical and on-call), and open lines of communication to ensure that all opinions are recognized and addressed. Finally, they must select fellows with proficient technical skills, clinical knowledge, teaching ability and work ethic to ensure that they focus on “specialized” training.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

There exists a high level of non-compliance with basic infection control measures by medical staff. One explanation may be a lack of familiarity with contemporary infection control guidelines. As surgical trainees represent a key group of stakeholders responsible for the delivery of recommended infection control practice, we assessed knowledge of infection control guidelines amongst current UK surgical trainees.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Without warning, during the annual meeting of the UK Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT), participating surgical trainees were asked to complete a questionnaire examining their basic knowledge of infection control and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) based on recently published guidelines.

RESULTS

A total of 52 trainees (13 higher surgical trainees [HSTs]; 39 basic surgical trainees [BSTs]) returned completed questionnaires in the study. BSTs demonstrated a higher level of knowledge of infection control, outperforming the HSTs in 7 out of 11 questions. Of surgical trainees, 61.5% were misinformed regarding the prevalence of MRSA blood-stream infections and 69% were unaware of policies for transfer of MRSA-positive patients. Analysis revealed areas of concern in regards to an adequate general level of knowledge of infection control in surgical trainees, particularly in some key areas.

CONCLUSIONS

To ensure patient safety and reduce hospital-acquired infections, it is vital that focused, co-ordinated programmes of education, in this rapidly changing field, are prioritised and formalised into surgical training, selection and assessment.  相似文献

Background

Most preoperative surgical training programs experience challenges with the availability of expert surgeons to teach trainees. Some research suggests that trainees may benefit from being allowed to actively shape their learning environments, which could alleviate some of the time and resource pressures in surgical training. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of self-directed or prescribed practice schedules (random or blocked) on learning suturing skills.

Methods

Participants watched an instructional video for simple interrupted, vertical mattress and horizontal mattress suturing then completed a pretest to assess baseline skills. Participants were assigned to 1 of 4 practice groups: self-directed practice schedule, prescribed blocked practice schedule, prescribed random practice schedule or matched to the self-directed group (control). Practice of the skill was followed by a delayed (1 h) posttest. Improvement from pretest to posttest was determined based on differences in performance time and expert-based assessments.

Results

Analyses revealed a significant effect of group for difference in performance time of the simple interrupted suture. Random practice did not show the expected advantage for skill learning, but there was an advantage of self-directed practice.

Conclusion

Self-directed practice schedules may be desirable for optimal learning of simple technical skills, even when expert instruction is available. Instructors must also take into account the interaction between task difficulty and conditions of practice to develop ideal training environments.  相似文献

Objective

To determine whether women are proportionately underselected at the level of the annual residency match.

Methods

Data were obtained from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Canadian Residency Matching Service. The odds of men being rejected from their top choice of surgical discipline were compared with the corresponding odds for women for the surgical specialties of general surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, urology, cardiac surgery and plastic surgery.

Results

Women continue to be underrepresented among surgery residents and surgeons in practice; however, the number of women has increased. Neither sex was overselected among the surgical specialties examined.

Conclusions

There was no evidence of overselection of either sex at the level of the annual resident selection committee.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE

Engage the UNIFESP Cardiovascular Surgery residents in coronary anastomosis, assess their skills and certify results, using the Arroyo Anastomosis Simulator and UNIFESP surgical models.

METHODS

First to 6th year residents attended a weekly program of technical training in coronary anastomosis, using 4 simulation models: 1. Arroyo simulator; 2. Dummy with a plastic heart; 3. Dummy with a bovine heart; and 4. Dummy with a beating pig heart. The assessment test was comprised of 10 items, using a scale from 1 to 5 points in each of them, creating a global score of 50 points maximum.

RESULTS

The technical performance of the candidate showed improvement in all items, especially manual skill and technical progress, critical sense of the work performed, confidence in the procedure and reduction of the time needed to perform the anastomosis after 12 weeks practice. In response to the multiplicity of factors that currently influence the cardiovascular surgeon training, there have been combined efforts to reform the practices of surgical medical training.

CONCLUSION

1 - The four models of simulators offer a considerable contribution to the field of cardiovascular surgery, improving the skill and dexterity of the surgeon in training. 2 - Residents have shown interest in training and cooperate in the development of innovative procedures for surgical medical training in the art.  相似文献

Background:

At the current time, technical skills are not directly evaluated by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) as part of the certification process in urology. Rather, the RCPSC relies on the evaluation of Program Directors to ensure that trainees have acquired the necessary surgical skills.

Methods:

An electronic survey was sent out to the members of the Canadian Academy of Urological Surgeons (CAUS), including the 13 Canadian urology program directors, to assess the teaching and evaluation of technical skills of urology trainees.

Results:

The response rate was 37% (33/89), including 8 of the 13 (62%) Program Directors from across Canada. For the teaching of technical skills, most programs had access to live animal laboratories (69%), dedicated teaching time in simulation (59%) and physical training models (59%). Most relied on voluntary faculty. There was a wide variety of structured evaluations for technical skills used across programs, while 36% of respondents did not use structured evaluations. For trainees with deficiencies in technical skills, 67% of programs offered extra operative time with designated faculty, 26% offered additional simulation focused on the deficiency and 19% offered faculty tutorial sessions.

Conclusion:

Among Canadian urology residency programs, there is considerable variability in the assessment of technical skills of trainees. Standardized objective assessment tools would help ensure that all trainees have acquired adequate surgical proficiency to operate independently.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

There is a perception that the training pathway for oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) is unduly long and arduous, as consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeons must be doubly qualified (that is, hold degrees in medicine and dentistry) and be holders of two higher fellowships.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

We reviewed the data regarding the average age of National Training Number (NTN) holders and GMC data on the year of first registration and the year of entry onto a specialist surgical list for all 9 surgical specialties.

RESULTS

The results showed the average age of the surgical SpR populations ranged from 33.5 to 38.2 years with an average age of 36.14 years. OMFS SpR''s average age is 37.69 years. The GMC data showed the average number of months from full to specialist registration ranged from 90.83 months to 135.24 months, with OMFS surgeons having the lowest average.

CONCLUSIONS

These data suggest that OMFS surgeons are of a similar age to other surgeons whilst in training. In addition, they have the shortest transit time between full GMC registration and entry onto the specialist list. The length of this training even with dual qualification is similar to other surgical specialties.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

The management of complex extremity injury, which may require assessment of limb viability and performance of amputation, is a challenge to those involved in its emergent and definitive care. Concern exists regarding the exposure of orthopaedic trainees to such cases due both to changes in training and centralisation of trauma services.

SUBJECTS AND METHODS

This is a web-based observational study by survey, investigating the confidence and perceived adequacy of training of UK orthopaedic specialist trainees in the assessment of limb viability and amputation surgery. 222 responses from 888 trainees were required to achieve a < 5% error rate with 90% confidence; 232 surveys were completed.

RESULTS

Trainee confidence in dealing with the assessment of limb viability is high despite infrequent exposure to cases. The majority of trainees perceive their training in limb viability assessment as adequate. For performance of amputation, exposure is minimal, confidence is lower and 36% of trainees regard their training as inadequate.

CONCLUSIONS

Limb viability assessment is an area in which trainees feel confident and well trained. There is, however, a perceived training inadequacy in amputation surgery and a corresponding lack of confidence for many trainees, irrespective of training year. This is the first study to offer an insight into specific training experiences of junior orthopaedic surgeons at a national level and it should drive the development of opportunities for trainees to develop skills in amputation surgery.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

In the UK, general surgical specialist trainees have limited exposure to general surgical trauma. Previous work has shown that trainees are involved in only two blunt and one penetrating trauma laparotomies per annum. During their training, nearly half of trainees will not be involved in the surgical management of liver injury, 20% will not undertake a trauma splenectomy and only a quarter will see a trauma thoracotomy. Military general surgical trainees require training in, and exposure to, the surgical management of trauma and specifically military wounding patterns that is not available in the UK. The objective of this study was to determine whether operative workload in the sole British surgical unit in Helmand Province, Afghanistan (Operation HERRICK) would provide a training opportunity for military general surgical trainees.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

A retrospective theatre log-book review of all surgical cases performed at the Role 2 (Enhanced) treatment facility at Camp Bastion, Helmand Province on Operation HERRICK between October 2006 and October 2007, inclusive. Operative cases were analysed for general surgical trauma, laparotomy, thoracotomy, vascular trauma and specific organ injury management where available.

RESULTS

A total of 968 operative cases were performed during the study period. General surgical procedures included 51 laparotomies, 17 thoracotomies and 11 vascular repairs. There were a further 70 debridements of general surgical wounds. Specific organ management included five cases of liver packing for trauma, five trauma splenectomies and four nephrectomies.

CONCLUSIONS

A training opportunity currently exists on Operation HERRICK for military general surgical specialist trainees. If the tempo of the last 12 months is maintained, a 2-month deployment would essentially provide trainees with the equivalent trauma surgery experience to the whole of their surgical training in the UK NHS. Trainees would gain experience in military trauma as well as specific organ injury management.  相似文献

Background

National Health Service (NHS) reforms have changed the structure of postgraduate healthcare education and training. With a Government mandate that promotes multi-professional education and training aligned with policy driven initiatives, this article highlights concerns over the impact that these changes may have on surgical training.

Discussion

The creation of Health Education England (HEE) and its local education and training boards (LETBs), which are dominated by NHS healthcare providers, should result in greater accountability of employers in workforce planning, enhanced local responsibility and increased transparency of funding allocation. However, these changes may also create a potential poacher-turned-gamekeeper role of employers, who now have responsibility for junior doctors’ training. Analysis of LETB membership reveals a dearth of representation of surgeons, who comprise only 2% of board members, with the input of trainees also seemingly overlooked. A lack of engagement with the LETBs by the independent sector is a concern with increasing numbers of training opportunities potentially being lost as a result.The new system also needs to recognise the specific training needs required by the craft specialties given the demands of technical skill acquisition, in particular regarding the provision of simulation training facilities and trainer recognition. However, training budget cuts may result in a disproportionate reduction of funding for surgical training. Surgical training posts will also be endangered, opportunities for out-of-programme experience and research may also decline and further costs are likely to be passed onto the trainee.

Summary

Although there are several facets to the recent reforms of the healthcare education and training system that have potential to improve surgical training, concerns need to be addressed. Engagement from the independent sector and further clarification on how the LETBs will be aligned with commissioning services are also required. Surgical training is in danger of taking a back seat to Government mandated priorities. Representation of trainees and surgeons on LETB committees is essential to ensure a surgical viewpoint so that the training needs of the future consultant workforce meet the demands of a 21st century health service.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

Surgical training is threatened by anxieties about trainees performing major procedures. We have analysed the outcome of oesophagectomies performed by a consultant surgeon and compared these to the performance of trainees (years 4–6) operating under direct supervision.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Data were collected retrospectively in a computerised database on all patients who underwent oesophagectomy at a teaching tertiary centre between December 1997 and April 2004 with a minimum 15 months'' follow-up. Analysis of outcome was according to measures of technical adequacy, postoperative course, histological analysis, recurrence and survival.

RESULTS

During the study period, 241 oesophagectomies were carried out; 157 (65.1%) of these procedures were performed by the consultant and 84 (34.9%) were performed by surgeons-in-training under direct consultant supervision. Pre-operative, technical adequacy, postoperative course, histological analysis, recurrence and survival were comparable in both groups.

CONCLUSIONS

These data demonstrate comparable patient outcome when suitably experienced trainees are supervised in performing oesophagectomies and support its continued use in operative training.  相似文献

Background:

Laparoscopic surgery is a reality in almost all surgical centers. Although with initial greater technical difficulty for surgeons, the rapid return to activities, less postoperative pain and higher quality aesthetic stimulates surgeons to evolve technically in this area. However, unlike open surgery where learning opportunities are more accessible, the laparoscopic training represents a challenge in surgeon formation.

Aim:

To present a low cost model for laparoscopic training box.

Methods:

This model is based in easily accessible materials; the equipment can be easily found based on chrome mini jet and passes rubber thread and a webcam attached to an aluminum handle.

Results:

It can be finalized in two days costing R$ 280,00 (US$ 90).

Conclusion:

It is possible to stimulate a larger number of surgeons to have self training in laparoscopy at low cost seeking to improve their surgical skills outside the operating room.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

Despite improvements in the outcome of individuals sustaining significant injury, the optimum management of fractures in traumatised patients remains an area of debate and publication. There is, however, a paucity of studies regarding the specifics of acquired experience and training of junior orthopaedic surgeons in the practical application of these skills. Our null hypothesis is that, despite alteration in surgical training, the perceived confidence and adequacy of training of UK orthopaedic specialist trainees in the application of damage control orthopaedics (DCO) and early total care (ETC) philosophy is unaffected.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

A web-based survey was sent to a sample of orthopaedic trainees. From 888 trainees, 222 responses were required to achieve a 5% error rate with 90% confidence.

RESULTS

A total of 232 responses were received. Trainees reported a high level of perceived confidence with both external fixation and intramedullary devices. Exposure to cases was sporadic although perceived training adequacy was high. A similar pattern was seen in perceived operative role with the majority of trainees expecting to be performing such operations, albeit under varying levels of supervision. In a more complicated case of spanning external fixation for a ‘floating knee, trainees reported a decreased level of perceived confidence and limited exposure. One-third of trainees reported never having been involved in such a case. In contrast to nationally collated logbook data, exposure to and perceived confidence in managing cases involving ETC and DCO were similar.

CONCLUSIONS

Despite changes in the training of junior orthopaedic surgeons, trainee-reported confidence and adequacy of training in the practical application of DCO and ETC was high. Exposure to cases overall was, however, seen to be limited and there was a suggestion of disparity between current operative experiences of trainees and that recorded in the national trainee logbook.  相似文献

Background and Objectives:

Several surgical specialties use laparoscopy and share many of the same techniques and challenges, such as entry approaches, equipment, and complications. However, most basic training programs focus on a single specialty. The objective of this study was to describe the implementation of a regional cross-specialty training program for basic laparoscopy, to increase the flexibility of educational courses, and to provide a more efficient use of simulation equipment.

Methods:

Using a regional training program in basic laparoscopy for gynecology as a model, we developed a cross-specialty training program for residents in surgery, gynecology, urology, and thoracic surgery. We reviewed data on training for the first year of the program and evaluated the program by using a scoring system for quality criteria for laparoscopic curricula and skills.

Results:

We held 6 full-day theoretical courses involving 67 residents between September 1, 2013, and August 31, 2014. In the weeks following each course, residents practiced in a self-directed, distributed, and proficiency-based manner at a simulation center and in local hospital departments. A total of 57 residents completed the self-practice and a subsequent practical animal laboratory–based course. The structure of the training program was evaluated according to identified quality criteria for a skills laboratory, and the program scored 38 of a maximum 62 points.

Discussion:

Implementation of a regional cross-specialty training program in basic laparoscopy is feasible. There are several logistic benefits of using a cross-specialty approach; however, it is important that local departments include specialty-specific components, together with clinical departmental follow-up.  相似文献

Background and Objective:

The robotic surgical platform is an alternative technique to traditional laparoscopy and requires the development of new surgical skills for both the experienced surgeon and trainee. Our goal was to perform an early evaluation of the feasibility of training fellows in robotic-assisted gynecologic procedures at the outset of our incorporation of this technology into clinical practice.

Methods:

A systematic approach to fellow training included (1) didactic and hands-on training with the robotic system, (2) instructional videos, (3) assistance at the operating table, and (4) performance of segments of gynecologic procedures in tandem with the attending physician. Time to complete the entire procedure, individual segments, rate of conversion to laparotomy, and complications were recorded.

Results:

Twenty-one robotic-assisted gynecologic procedures were performed from April 2006 to January 2007. Fellows participated as the console surgeon in 14/21 cases. Thirteen patients (62%) had prior abdominal surgery. Median values with ranges were age 51 years (range, 33 to 90); BMI 28 (range, 19.4 to 43.8); EBL 25 mL (range, 25 to 250); and hospital stay 1 day (range, 1 to 4). No significant difference existed between fellow and attending mean total operative and individual segment times. One conversion to laparotomy was necessary. No major surgical complications occurred.

Conclusion:

These data suggest that it is feasible to incorporate a systematic approach to robotic-assisted laparoscopic training for trainees at the outset of incorporation of this technology into current practice.  相似文献

Background

Surgical simulators provide a safe environment to learn and practise psychomotor skills. A goal for these simulators is to achieve high levels of fidelity. The purpose of this study was to develop a reliable surgical simulator fidelity questionnaire and to assess whether a newly developed virtual haptic simulator for fixation of an ulna has comparable levels of fidelity as Sawbones.

Methods

Simulator fidelity questionnaires were developed. We performed a stratified randomized study with surgical trainees. They performed fixation of the ulna using a virtual simulator and Sawbones. They completed the fidelity questionnaires after each procedure.

Results

Twenty-two trainees participated in the study. The reliability of the fidelity questionnaire for each separate domain (environment, equipment, psychological) was Cronbach α greater than 0.70, except for virtual environment. The Sawbones had significantly higher levels of fidelity than the virtual simulator (p < 0.001) with a large effect size difference (Cohen d < 1.3).

Conclusion

The newly developed fidelity questionnaire is a reliable tool that can potentially be used to determine the fidelity of other surgical simulators. Increasing the fidelity of this virtual simulator is required before its use as a training tool for surgical fixation. The virtual simulator brings with it the added benefits of repeated, independent safe use with immediate, objective feedback and the potential to alter the complexity of the skill.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

Open appendicectomy is an ideal procedure for junior surgical trainees to develop operative skills. However, in recent years, we have noticed a decline in the number of appendicectomies performed by basic surgical trainees and a shift towards increasing use of laparoscopic appendicectomy. The aim of this study was to determine whether the growing popularity of laparoscopic appendicectomy is having a detrimental impact on the training experience of SHOs.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

We undertook a retrospective review of all cases of appendicectomies performed in one district hospital over a 7-year period (August 1999 to August 2006.) A standard performa was used to extract data from the original case notes of these patients relating to the operating surgeon and technique.

RESULTS

Data were obtained for 857 appendicectomies. Between February 2002 and July 2003, there was asignificant decline in the proportion of appendicectomies performed by SHOs from 78.7% to 29.3% (P < 0.001). Either side of this decline there were no significant changes in the proportion of SHO appendicectomies. The number of appendicectomies performed laparoscopically only began to rise after February 2004, with ayear-on-year increase. The number of appendicectomies performed by SHOs remained stable during this time. No laparoscopic appendicectomy was performed by an SHO.

CONCLUSIONS

We found no evidence that the popularisation of laparoscopic appendicectomy has contributedtothe decline of appendicectomies performed by SHOs. Nevertheless, with the continual rise in popularity of this procedure, it is important to balance training opportunities for both junior and higher surgical trainees.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

Accurate clinical diagnosis depends on the reliable recognition of signs and symptoms. This expertise comes from experience in seeing patients which has been traditionally gained over a long training period. Shortened specialist training (Modernising Medical Careers) has led to a greater reliance on structured teaching and skills transfer programmes. The accuracy of clinical diagnosis and the rate at which diagnostic skills improve during training is important for the assessment of trainees, and the delivery of care.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

This study assessed the accuracy of clinical diagnosis of skin lesions by two junior plastic surgery trainees. They were asked to diagnose 120 consecutive skin lesions seen in a pigmented skin lesion clinic in 2005, with the histological diagnosis being confirmed following subsequent excision. The process was repeated a year later in 2006 to enable the rate of correct diagnosis to be compared.

RESULTS

Initially, 53.3% of diagnoses were correct. A year later, this had risen to 65.0%. Twenty-two different skin pathologies were present in excised specimens, and skin cancers comprised 30%. The trainees demonstrated 93.8% sensitivity in their initial diagnosis of malignancy (95% CI, 79.2–99.2) and 97.4% a year later (95% CI, 86.5–99.9). However, specificity was 69.3% (95% CI, 58.6–78.7) in 2005 and 71.6% (95% CI, 60.5–71.4) in 2006.

CONCLUSIONS

Accuracy in the diagnosis of the wide range of skin conditions presenting to an out-patient clinic was shown to increase over a 1-year period. We feel that this improvement resulted from regular clinical exposure supported by a structured learning programme. The shortening of the specialist training period may affect the acquisition of diagnostic skills by trainees and impact on the confidence with which they commence consultant practice.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION

In the UK, surgical training includes all aspects of general surgery. Vascular surgery is not an independent specialty. We wished to assess the views of vascular trainees in UK on the future of vascular surgery and training.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Trainees were surveyed in 2003, 2004 (after introduction of the European Working Time Directive) and 2005, concentrating on four areas – future practise of vascular surgery, role of endovascular training, vascular specialisation and future training.

RESULTS

The majority of trainees want to practise vascular surgery alone. In 2003, 80% thought training should include endovascular techniques. By 2005, all trainees regarded training as mandatory as endovascular techniques would represent a significant part of their future work. Opinion changed on training; from 4 years general then 2 years vascular surgery (qualification in general surgery) to 2 years general and 4 years vascular surgery (specialist qualification in vascular surgery; P < 0.0001). Opinion also changed, that vascular surgery should spilt from general surgery to form its own speciality (P < 0.0007).

CONCLUSIONS

Trainees now regard training in endovascular techniques and endovascular aneurysm repair as mandatory. The majority wish to specialise from general surgery and achieve a separate qualification in vascular surgery.  相似文献
