Therapeutic touch for the healing of skin injuries in guinea pigs

This study verifies the action of therapeutic touch--a complementary practice- over the process of healing of injuries caused in the skin of guinea pigs. It is a quantitative study of the experimental kind, and there was a comparison of healing speed among 10 guinea pigs that received water energized with such technique (group B) and 10 guinea pigs that received water with no treatment (group A). The project was executed in the experimental laboratory of the Nursing School at the University of S?o Paulo, and the length of the bruises was measured five times, at every four days. Among the finds, it was observed that, after 20 days, 100% of the guinea pigs in the group B had their bruises fully healed, which did not happen to 4 guinea pigs (40%) in group A.     

Anthranilic acid based CCK1 receptor antagonists: preliminary investigation on their second "touch point"

In this phase of structure-affinity relationship study of VL-0395, a new anthranilic acid based CCK1 selective antagonist, we propose a series of unnatural aminoacidic derivatives. The result of this work is the identification of a new CCK ligand, which possesses an affinity (IC50 = 35 nm) one order of magnitude greater than the lead and, as a general rule, it points out how the hypothesized receptorial pocket which accommodates the Phe residue allows much more structural modification than that interacting with the N-terminal group. Hence, the modification of the C-terminal pharmacophoric group of our lead VL-0395 can not only enhance the affinity of anthranilic acid derivatives but can modulate the selectivity for one CCK receptor subtype or afford mixed antagonists.

America is entering into a proverbial "perfect storm" of medication errors. Medications are more complex and their use is increasing, consumers are more involved in their healthcare decisions, and the population is aging and with it comes diminished cognitive skills. "Sandwich moms" are likely to bear the brunt of the ravages of this storm. These are the women who serve multiple roles as caregivers for their children, spouses, and, increasingly, their parents. This study explores how concerned these caregivers are about potential harm from medication use and how likely they would be to become more involved in medication management activities.
