Homogeneous radiofrequency magnetic fields are necessary for production of high-quality magnetic images and for most forms of magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It is often convenient to map the radiofrequency homogeneity associated with a resonant device by measuring the magnetic image intensity of an aqueous phantom placed within the resonator. The rf field intensity is not related trivially to the magnetic image intensity, and the relationship is different for different image acquisition methods. In this report relationships between rf field intensity and magnetic image intensity are derived and radio-frequency field maps presented for comparison using (1) an rf probe moved about within the resonant volume, (2) spin-echo images, and (3) small tip angle gradient refocused echo images.  相似文献

Non‐Cartesian imaging provides many advantages in terms of flexibility, functionality, and speed. However, a major drawback to these imaging methods is off‐resonance distortion artifacts. These artifacts manifest as blurring in spiral imaging. Common techniques that remove the off‐resonance field inhomogeneity distortion effects are not sufficient, because the high order concomitant gradient fields are nontrivial for common imaging conditions, such as imaging 5 cm off isocenter in an 1.5 T scanner. Previous correction algorithms are either slow or do not take into account the known effects of concomitant gradient fields along with the field inhomogeneities. To ease the correction, the distortion effects are modeled as a non‐stationary convolution problem. In this work, two fast and accurate postgridding algorithms are presented and analyzed. These methods account for both the concomitant field effects and the field inhomogeneities. One algorithm operates in the frequency domain and the other in the spatial domain. To take advantage of their speed and accuracy, the algorithms are applied to a real‐time cardiac study and a high‐resolution cardiac study. This review article examines the state of knowledge regarding human imaging using MRI at high main magnetic field strengths. The article starts with a summary of the technical issues associated with magnetic field strengths in the range of 3-8 T, including magnet characteristics and the properties of radiofrequency magnetic fields, with special reference to sensitivity, power deposition, and homogeneity. The published data on tissue-water relaxation times in the brain is tabulated and the implications for contrast and pulse sequence implementation is elucidated. The behavior of the major fast imaging sequences, fast low angle shot (FLASH), rapid acquisition with relaxation enhancement (RARE), and echo planar imaging (EPI), is examined in this context. A number of anatomical images from 3 T systems are presented as examples. Particular attention is given to various forms of vascular imaging, namely, time of flight angiography, venography, and arterial spin labeling. The most complex changes in contrast with main magnetic field strength are in activation studies utilizing the blood oxygen level dependent mechanism, which are examined in detail. Improvements in spatial specificity are emphasized, particularly in conjunction with spin-echo imaging. The article concludes with a discussion of the current status and the potential impact of technical developments such as parallel imaging.  相似文献

A simple method for performing manual dose calculations in asymmetric fields is proposed. The method is based on a generalized central-axis dose calculation equation for which open- and wedged-field off-axis provisions have been made. A calculation form designed to document the calculation and simplify the calculation process is presented. Lastly, the required off-axis dosimetry data obtained from a dual-energy accelerator are shown.  相似文献

In the recent Falklands campaign four Army Field Surgical Teams were deployed in the two phases of the war. They functioned as Advanced Surgical Centres and operated on 233 casualties. There were 3 deaths. The patterns of wounding and the methods of casualty management are discussed and compared with other recent campaigns.  相似文献

Optimal treatment planning of target volume that surrounds a vital critical structure is often very difficult. Treatment techniques using moving beam therapy with fields asymmetric with respect to rotational axis of the collimator head allow treatment of such target volumes with minimal dose to critical structures. The availability of independent motion of the collimator jaws on new medical accelerators allows easy setting up of asymmetric treatment portals. Therefore, treatment techniques utilizing asymmetric field arc rotations with acceptable dose distributions have been possible.  相似文献
