We report the first case of a primary group A streptococcus (GAS) psoas abscess in a 31-year-old woman. The psoas abscess was preceded by an episode of acute pharyngitis. The M-protein gene (emm) and streptolysin S structural gene (sagA) were present in the isolate, with no significant amino acid differences from previously described sequences of M1 GAS isolates. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) showed that the isolate belonged to MLST sequence type (MLST-ST) 28, the predominant MLST-ST associated with invasive disease caused by M1 isolates.  相似文献

A case of multicentric reticulohistiocytosis (MR) in a 24-yr-old woman is presented. MR is a rare disorder characterized by progressive polyarthropathy and a papulo-nodular skin rash. The diagnosis was established by histological examination of biopsies of erythematous nodules on the fingers which showed circumscribed collections of large mononuclear cells and multinucleate giant cells in the reticular dermis. These were embedded in a fine network of mature fibrous tissue with a scanty lymphocytic infiltrate. Histochemical, immunopathological and ultrastructural investigations confirmed that the large mononuclear cells had the properties of macrophages. The histopathological features of MR are reviewed in the light of current knowledge of macrophage physiology, and evidence for lymphocyte-histiocyte interactions in the pathogenesis of this bizarre granulomatous disorder is presented.  相似文献

This paper describes a non-invasive human brain-actuated robotic arm experiment, which allows remote writing. In the local environment, the participant decides on an arbitrary word to transmit. A mental speller interface is then used to select the letters. A robot arm placed in the remote environment writes the word on a whiteboard in real time. A multidisciplinary framework such as the one presented here exemplifies a class of interactive applications with possible relevance in a variety of fields, such as entertainment and clinical environments.  相似文献

The central mechanism of motor programming was studied using a model of precise horizontal flexion of the arm at the elbow joint. Training was performed in the dark to ensure that formation of the motor program was based predominantly on the use of proprioceptive afferentation. The target was not demonstrated before training: subjects determined the angle of arm flexion during training, the moment at which the target position was reached being identified by a brief LED flash. Subjects had to perform the movement as quickly and accurately as possible. The amplitude, speed, and accuracy of the movement were measured in real time. The ten subjects were divided into two groups for initial training to precise movements, using two different protocols: flexion of the elbow to 70° and to 55°. At the second stage of the experiment, each subject’s initial target position was suddenly changed (from 70° to 55° and vice versa). Training was continued until a stable accuracy in the new conditions was achieved (with errors of no more than 5% of the specified amplitude). The nature of the transformation in the kinematics of the precise movement in response to the change in the single task parameter illuminated the fundamental principle of organization of the supraspinal motor command for movements of this type. For both specified flexion amplitudes, the ratio between the acceleration and deceleration phases of the movement were identical during the period of skill fixation. On average, 70% of the total amplitude of flexion was accounted for by the acceleration phase and 30% by the deceleration phase. Adaptation of the precise movement to changes in the specified horizontal elbow flexion angle (i.e., re-achievement of the required movement accuracy in the changed conditions) during rearrangement was completed by inversion of these values. According to the results of previous studies, the most informative measure for analysis of the dynamics of the controlling central command was the acceleration of the movement. In terms of current concepts of the mechanism of motor control, the acceleration plateau can be regarded as mirroring long-term depression-the voltage plateau in Purkinje cells and motoneurons. Data processing involved calculation of the integral acceleration in both phases of the movement in relation to the angle of flexion (phase plots). We report on the cytogenetics of a primary testicular nonseminoma, a residual mature teratoma after remission-induction chemotherapy, and a late relapse after 9 years of follow-up, in one patient. The late relapse was composed of a mature teratoma and a yolk sac tumor component. Cytogenetic comparison of the different tumors shows that progression of primary testicular nonseminoma to residual mature teratoma and to a late-relapse lesion is accompanied by net loss of chromosomes. In addition, our findings may suggest that transformation to viable cancer in a late-relapse lesion is accompanied by further chromosomal losses.  相似文献

A protein micro-array, called a "cell chip" was constructed by using a photo-reactive polymer for a cell-adhesion assay. Various amounts of albumin or fibronectin were covalently immobilized on a polystyrene dish using a micro-spotter with a dip pen. First, poly(acrylic acid) carrying azidophenyl groups was synthesized as the photo-reactive polymer. Secondly, the aqueous solution of a photo-reactive polymer (several nanoliters) was cast using the dip pen of the micro-spotter and dried in air. Subsequently, aqueous solutions of proteins were cast on the same place using the micro-spotter. After drying, the dish was irradiated with ultraviolet light. Finally, the immobilization was confirmed by staining with a dye. The immobilization was stable even after washing with Tween-20. The protein-immobilized area depended on the manipulation of the micro-spotter and the size of the dip pen. Subsequently, cell adhesion on the photo-immobilized protein micro-array was investigated. The adhesion behavior of cells depended on the kind of immobilized proteins and the kind of cells. The protein micro-array will be useful for cell diagnosis and for the selection of biomaterials to regulate cell behavior.  相似文献
