Abstract: | Auscultation of the fetal heart rate is no longer considered an accurate indication of change in fetal well-being since it misses many subtle changes. Electronic fetal monitoring, when judiciously used, can be an invaluable aid in early recognition of fetal distress. This article lists indications for monitoring and describes some causes of heart rate change. |
