Abstract:Objective:To explore the expression of high mobility group box-1(HMGB1) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues and to analyze its relationship with the clinicopathological features and prognosis.Methods:Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of HMGB1 in 126 OSCC tissues and 30 normal oral mucosa tissues,respectively.The relationship between HMGB1 expression and clinicopathological features of OSCC was analyzed.Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze the relationship between HMGB1 protein expression and overall survival (OS),and Cox model was used to analyze multivariate prognosis.Results:The high positive expression rate of HMGB1 in OSCC group was higher than that in control group (P<0.05).The high expression of HMGB1 protein in OSCC was related to the degree of differentiation,clinical stage,TNM stage and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05).Survival analysis showed that the 5-year survival rate of patients with high expression of HMGB1 was lower than that of patients with low or no expression of HMGB1 (P<0.05).Univariate analysis showed that HMGB1 protein,clinical stage,TNM stage and lymph node metastasis were the prognostic factors of OSCC (P<0.05).Cox multivariate analysis showed that HMGB1 was an independent prognostic factor in OSCC patients (P<0.05).Conclusion:HMGB1 protein is highly expressed in OSCC tissues,which is associated with degree of differentiation,clinical stage,TNM stage,lymph node metastasis and other pathological characteristics,and significantly affects the prognosis.
