| Abstract: | Schwannomas are mainly benign neurogenic tumors originating from the Schwann cells in peripheral nerves sheaths and occur in patients at any age and in every location [1,2 ]. The most common occurring sites of schwannomas are the head, neck and extremities [3]. In the abdominal cavity, the most frequently involved sites are the retroperitoneum and stomach [4]. Schwannomas in the gallbladder are uncommon and rarely have been reported in the literature. Due to the lack of specific clinical experience, schwannomas in the gallbladder are almost indistinguishable from malignant tumors and hard to make an accurate preoperative diagnosis. We herein report a case of gallbladder schwannoma, which was misdiagnosed as cancer before operation. |
