| Abstract: | Objective To report characteristics of tympanic membrane wideband acoustic immittance(WAI)absorbance in patients with large vestibular aqueduct syndrome(LVAS).Methods Wideband acoustic immittance was performed in 41 patients with large vestibular aqueduct syndrome diagnosed by CT scan and in the same number of age matched normal children.Peak pressure tympanic membrane absorbance at different frequencies and relative area of absorbance were calculated and compared between the two groups using independent t-test.Results Area of absorbance was significantly larger in the LVAS group than in normal children at 226-1000 Hz,but not at 1000-8000 Hz.Peak pressure absorbance showed no difference between the LVAS group and normal children.Conclusion At low frequencies(226-1000Hz),area of tympanic membrane absorbance is greater in LVAS patients than in normal children. |
