Effects of Herbs-Electrothermic Pad on Experimental Ankle Joint Inflammation of Rats

Aromatic compound Chinese traditional herbs (Qu Fong Zhi Tong Shan) with electrothermic pad (herbs-ETP), only electrothermic pad (ETP), wood scraps with electrothermic pad (WS-ETP) were used for treating the inflammation caused by hypodermic injection of carrageenin in rats respectively. Ankle joint swelling percentage was used as index to inquire into the effects of herbs-ETP on the inflammation. The results showed that herbs-ETP caused an obvious inhibition on the joint swelling caused by carrageenin (P<0.05, P<0.01). The inhibition effects became significant 30 min following treatment. Efficient inhibition could last for 6 hours. Swelling became the worse (P<0.05, P<0.01), however, after treatment of ETP only. Wood scraps-ETP had no evident effect on inflammation.
