Changes of Cardiac Loads after Transcatheter Closure of Atrial Septal Defect in Different Age

Objective To observe the changes of cardiac loads after transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect（ASD） in asymptomatic patients of different age. Methods Fifty cases of ASD patients were divided into two groups ： children group （25 cases） and adolescences group （25 cases）. All patients were accepted transcatheter closure of ASD. The changes of cardiac loads before and 1 month,6 months after operation were observed by echocardiogram. Results The changes of cardiac load were similar in the two groups：transverse diameter of right ventricular and left atrial end-systolic diameter decreased, left ventricular end diastolic volume increased, pulmonary valve orifice blood flow peak value and tricuspid valve orifice blood flow peak value decreased, bicuspid valve orifice blood flow peak value increased. The changes mentioned above persisted 6 months after operation,with significant difference compared to the preoperative （P 〈 0.05 ）. No marked change was found in left ventricular ejection fraction after operation （P 〉 0.05 ）. Conclusion It is feasibility to proper delay the time of atrial septal defect closure in asymptomafic patients.
