Multiple Regression Analysis of Risk Factors Related with Hepatic Metastasis of Colorectal Cancer

Objective: To investigate the risk factor(s) for hepatic metastasis of colorectal cancer. Methods: The clinicopathological variables including tumor size, depth of invasion, differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis and serum level of CEA, AFP, CA199, etc. were studied in 64 cases with synchronous or metachronous hepatic metastasis and 37 cases of no recurrence with at least three years follow-up after surgery of colorectal cancer. Single and multiple factors analysis approach were adopted by SPSS 13.0 program to probe the relation between colorectal cancer and hepatic metastasis. Results: Univariate analysis showed that the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, differentiation degree and Dukes stage, preoperative serum-CEA and serum-CA199 level were statistically significant risk factors for hepatic metastasis (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the independent risk factors of hepatic metastasis were the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and preoperative serum-CEA level among all the clinicopathological variables (P<0.05). Conclusion: Depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, differentiation degree, preoperative serum-CEA and serum-CA199 level are the main clinical factors in relation to liver metastasis from colorectal cancer.
