Abstract:OBJECTIVE?To investigate the effects of liver function and hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication in patients with chronic viral hepatitis co-infected with cytomegalovirus. ?METHODS?It was detected from sera in 32 cases with chronic viral hepatitis that the anti-cytomegalovirus IgM, anti-hepatitis C virus(HCV) antibodies, sera sign of HBV and biochemical parameters. Contral sera taken from twenty normal persons were tested for cytomegalovirus IgM antibodies.?RESULTS?The positive rate of anti-cytomegalovirus IgM in the patients with chronic hepatitis C was 40%. Levels of total bilirubin and alanine aminotransferase in the positive cases of anti-cytomegalovirus IgM were higher than that in the negative cases of anti-cytomegalovirus IgM, and their convalescences of liver function were longer, accompanying with the aggravation of fever, vomit, jaundice and hepatomegaly. ?CONCLUSION? The cytomegalovirus infection predispose in the immunocompromised host and depress the host's immune functions as well, which is in favour replication of hepatitis B virus. The patient's liver dysfunction was deteriorated by cytomegalovirus co-infection.
