Effect of Small-does Mannitol on Postoperative Recovery Quality of Patients after Longtime Retroperitoneal Laparoscopy

Objective To investigate the effect of small-does mannitol on postoperative recovery quality of patients after the longtime retroperitoneal laparoscopy.Methods A total of 40 patients of American Society of Anesthesiololgist（ASA） Ⅰ-Ⅱ grade undergoing elected retroperitoneal laparoscopic prostatectomy were randomly divided into two groups： mannitol group（group M） and control group（group C）.Thirty minutes before the end of surgery,group M accepted fast intravenous infusion of 0.5g/kg of 20% mannitol and group C accepted intravenous infusion of equal volume of 0.9% saline.The recovery quality was evaluated by the observer＇s assessment of alertness/sedation（OAAS） within 30 minutes after extubation,and the cognitive function was evaluated by mini-mental state exam（MMSE） within 3 hours after extubation.Results Both groups were in stable status after extubation.The recovery time and extubation time of group M were significantly shorter than in group C（P0.05）.After extubation,the OAAS score of both groups increased gradually,and the OAAS score of group M 10 minutes after extubation was significantly higher than group C（P0.05）.After extubation,the cognitive function of both groups recovered gradually,group M returned to preoperative level within 2 hours,and group C returned to preoperative levels within 3 hours.The cognitive function scores of group M 1 hour and 2 hours after extubation were significantly higher than group C（P0.05）.Conclusion The recovery time and quality of patients undergoing retroperitoneal laparoscopy surgery are related with the time of pneumoperitoneum.Intravenous infusion of small-does mannitol can reduce the recovery time and improve recovery quality.
