Application Value of Procalcitonin in Acute Pancreatitis Complicated with Infection

Objective To explore the application value of dynamical measurement on procalcitonin （PCT） in acute pancreatitis complicated with infection. Methods Serum PCT levels, C-reactive protein （CRP） and white blood cell （WBC） count were detected in 43 patients with acute pancreatitis on the first, seventh and fourteenth day. The relation of the PCT levels and infection and prognosis was analyzed. Results At the first day serum PCT level of patients with acute pancreatitis was significantly higher than that of the control group （P0.05）. Serum CRP levels and WBC counts had no significant difference （P0.05）.At all the timepoints serum PCT levels in the patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome （SIRS） were significantly higher than those in the non-SIRS patients （P0.05）. Conclusion Serum PCT level may be used as an effective predicator to evaluate the infection and prognosis of patients with acute pancreatitis.
