Abstract: | Experiments on restrained rats showed that
the pain responses thrcsholds {tail-flick and
vocalization) induced by rioxious, stimuli were
increased markedly after clectroacupuncturc.
Following electrolytic lcsions or specific 5-HT
neuronal intoxication by 5,6-dihydroxytrypta-
mine in nucleus raphe magnus, dorsalis or me-
dianus, the acupuncture effects wcre significantly
reduced on the early postoperative days. It is
inferred that the rauhe serotonergic system may
play an important role in the analgesic cffect of
acupuncture. A neural mechanisrrt iii acupunc-
ture analgesia is hypothesized |
