Comparison of airway management of endotracheal tube and LMA - ProSeal in general anesthesia

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of airway management of endotracheal tube(ETT) and LMA-ProSeal in general anesthesia.Methods Sixty ASA I-II patients,scheduled for orthopedics surgery under general anesthesia,were randomly divided into group L and group E(n=30 each) receiving single tracheal tube anaesthesia and LMA-ProSeal anaesthesia respectively.HR,BP and SpO2 were recorded before tracheal tube and LMA-ProSeal insertion(T1) and extubation(T4),during insertion(T2) and extubation(T5) and at 3min after insertion(T3) and extubation(T6).Side-effects and postoperative complications were also recorded.Results There was no significant change in HR,BP and SpO2 at T2,T3 and T5,T6 as compared with T1 and T4 respectively in group E(P>0.05),while HR and BP in group L was significantly higher at T2,T3 and T5,T6 as compared with T1 and T4 respectively(P<0.05).There were 8 patients in group E and none patients in group L having the complications of chocking and moving at T5(P< 0.05).8 patients in group E and 3 patients in group L claimed to have sore-throat(P<0.05).There was no difference in nausea and vomiting between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The application of LMA-ProSeal in anesthesia is simple and without significant effect on hemodynamics.It also provide satisfactory ventilation as endotracheal intubation and reduce postoperative respiratory complication simultaneously.
