Abstract:Reissert compound of isoquinoline can be alkylated by active alkylating agent, alkyl iodide or benzyl chloride according to Barrie's method.A new compound, 1-cyclohexyl Reissert compound, was prepared by using cyclohexyl iodide as alkylating agent.If cyclohexyl bromide was used as alkylating agent in the presence of sodium hydride, the product, instead of IIIc, was 1-cyanoisoquinoline (IV) with 75% yield.It may provide a new method of preparation of IV, but the necessity of the cyclohexyl bromide and the mechanism of the reaction remain for further investition
