Analysis of 1676 cases of bone marrow cell cytology examination from children with blood disorders

Objective: To explore the relationship between children’s bone marrow cell morphology and initial clinical diagnosis. Methods: 1676 cases of bone marrow specimens were stained by Wright-Giemsa and special histochemical staining from 2007 to 2011.Bone marrow cell cytology diagnoses were given according to the staining results combined with clinical data. Results: Among the bone marrow cell morphology diagnoses the top three diseases were idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP),iron deficiency anemia(IDA) and leukemia with coincident rates of 92.3%,88.9%,85.1% separately.The disease with the highest incidence rate of 66.4% was acute lymphocytic leukemia. Conclusion: Bone marrow cell cytology examination were valuable to the definite diagnoses of most children’s haematological diseases,and were also meaningful to the differential diagnoses of some obscure diseases.
