Abstract:Aim: To investigate the developmental and histological changes of reproductive organs in male hairless mice. Methods: Five male hairless mice and 10 Kunming mice aged 8~10 weeks were chosen. The testis, epididymis, and prostate gland of mice were removed and weighted. Afterwards the tissue from these organs was fixed and stained with HE. Results: There was no significant difference between male hairless mice and Kunming mice in the organ index of testis, epididymis, and prostate gland, however, some histological changes were found in testis, including the decrease of cellular layer in convoluted seminiferous tubule, the unclarity of cell nucleus and the primary spermatocytes reduced. No obvious morphological change in epididymis or prostate gland was found. Conclusion: The histological change in male hairless mice testis may be one of the factors responsible for its reproductive difficulty.
