Research progress on effect of essential oils on cardiovascular diseases

Cardiovascular diseases are a group of disorders of heart and blood vessels, and include hypertension, hyperlipidemia, thromboembolism, coronary artery disease and heart failure. Cardiovascular diseases are a serious threat to human health and a leading cause of mortality worldwide. The key to a healthy cardiovascular system is the prevention of illness. Essential oils and some of components are able to significantly promote the cardiovascular system and can lead to vasorelaxation, hypotension, prevention and improvement of atherosclerosis, anti-platelet aggregation and anti-arrhythmia. Essential oils are beneficial to the cardiovascular system, but more evidence from clinical trials is necessary to confirm these results in humans.
