Abstract:Cervical cerclage is currently one of the primary methods of treatment for cervical insufficiency (CI). Identifying methods in order to selectively apply cerclage may allow us to further limit unnecessary procedures. In this regard, a limited number of inflammatory and extracellular matrix biomarkers measurable non-invasively at the level of the cervix have been examined. In this review we summarize the current research on the use of cervical biomarkers in predicting cerclage failure and propose potential objectives for future research.
Keywords:Cerclage  biomarkers  cervical insufficiency  preterm delivery
