NEEDS FOR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN ARMYMEN

Objective To investigate the mental problems of armymen and their needs for mental health services,so as to provide a scientific basis for mental health services in army.Methods： A half-open questionnaire was used to evaluate 541 armymen.The subjects were divided into several groups according to the rank,and the data were analyzed by χ2 test.Results（1）The common mental problems in order of percentage were：emotional trouble,interpersonal relationship,training stress,love and marriage,role adaptation,and self-awareness.The problems of training stress in soldiers and petty officers,and self-awareness in petty officers were more,whereas those of interpersonal relationship and role adaptation in soldiers and petty officers were less than in officers（P0.05）.（2）The related influencing factors in mental problems were：poor self-control,strict military administration,stronger training stress,over-much duty,poor interpersonal relationship,and family stress.The soldiers had more training stress,poor interpersonal relationship,and family stress,than petty officers,or officers（P0.05）.（3）The needs for mental services were：communication with psychologic personnel,reading related books and watching television,psychologic lectures,internet communication,mental training,and personal or telephone consulting.The needs for communication with psychologicl personnel in officers was more whereas that of internet communication was less than in petty officers,and soldiers（P0.05）.The needs for psychologic lectures,and mental consulting in petty officers were more than in officers,or soldiers（P0.05）.（4）The main content for mental education included：psychologic knowledge,interpersonal relationship skill,self-control of mental trouble,emotion and stress management,and psychologic development,ect.The officers had more needs for interpersonal relationship skill,analyzing the mental health of soldiers,the way to control mental status,marriage and love adaptation,and psychologic consulting and therapy than soldiers,and petty officers（P0.05,P0.01）.（5）The main subjects of mental training were：self-awareness,interpersonal relationship,emotion management,team cooperation,building up one＇s confidence,role adaptation,and profession program.The officers had more needs for interpersonal relationship training than petty officers,and soldiers（P0.05）.Conclusion The mental problems and needs for mental health services in armymen of different military ranks are different.So the characteristics of the subjects and the difference in needs should be considered to improve the suitability of mental health service.
