Awareness of core knowledge about tuberculosis prevention and treatment among faculty and staff from two middle schools in Beijing

Objective To understand the status of awareness of knowledge regarding tuberculosis(TB)health education and propagand in middle school staff so as to provide a basis for more effectively conducting health education concerning school TB prevention and treatment.Methods We investigated knowledge with respect to TB health education and propagand among 112 staff members from two middle schools in Fengtai District,Beijing on May 17-31,2019.And the survey results were analyzed by statistical method.Results The total awareness rate of 8 items of TB core knowledge was 87.61%(785/896),the awareness rate of all the core knowledge was 41.07%(46/112),and the total ignorance rate of all the core knowledge was 0.00%(0/112).The awareness rate was lower in male staff than in female staff.5.36%(6/112)of the respondents chose not to contact their neighbors or classmates with TB.The current situation of understanding TB prevention and treatment information through schools(including propaganda column,wall newspaper,and blackboard newspaper)and the willingness to understand it were found to be the highest,accounting for 82.14%(92/112)and 90.18%(101/112),respectively.Conclusion Faculty and staff have a good overall knowledge of the core knowledge about TB prevention and treatment,but the level of mastery of different core knowledge is unbalanced.It is necessary to further enhance the training and conduct targeted health promotion,publicity and education so as to increase the awareness rate of knowledge about TB prevention and treatment.
