Mediating effect of social integration between education and the utilization of basic public health services

Abstract: Objective To examine the mediating effect of social integration between education and the utilization of basic public health services among migrant population,and to provide insights for promoting the equalization of basic public?span>health services for migrant population. Methods A stratified,multi － stage,and scale － proportionate PPS sampling method was adopted to conduct a questionnaire survey on the migrant population in 6 counties in Shiyan City,Hubei Province. Three － steps regression was used to analyze the relationship between education,social integration,and basic public services of the migrant population,and the KHB effect decomposition method was used to test the mediating effect of social integration. Results The results showed that social integration played a mediating role between education and health records. The direct effect of education on health records was 0. 024 ( 95% CI: － 0. 019 － 0. 066) ,and the mediating effect of social integration was 0. 057( 95% CI: 0. 040 － 0. 073) ,and the mediating effect accounted for 70. 37% of the total effect; social integration played amediating role between education and health education,and the direct effect of education on health education was 0. 046 ( 95%CI: 0. 006 － 0. 086) ,the mediating effect of social integration was 0. 082 ( 95% CI: 0. 062 － 0. 102) ,and the mediating effect accounted for 64. 06% of the total effect. Conclusion The education level of the migrant population could directly promote the utilization of basic public health services,and also indirectly promote the utilization of basic public health services through social integration. Therefore,community workers need to pay more attention to the social integration of the migrant population,especially the migrant population with low education,in order to improve the utilization of basic public health services and promote the health of the migrant population.
