Reliability and validity of Chinese version Social Impact Scale applied in study of stigma in urinary incontinent women

Objective To examine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Social Impact Scale(SIS) in Chinese urinary incontinent women.Methods A convenient sample of 246 urinary incontinent women was selected from the community,and they filled out the Chinese version of Social Impact Scale.Reliability and construct validity were tested by reliability analysis and exploratory factor analysis.Results After exploratory factor analysis,20 items and 3 factors were remained,cumulative contributing rate was 54.418%.The three factors were social isolation,social rejection and internalized shame.After adjustment,the internal consistency reliability Cronbach′s α coefficient was 0.883 for the whole scale,and 0.867,0.807,0.914,respectively for the subscales.Conclusion The adjusted Chinese version of SIS has good reliability and validity.it is in accord with the requirement of mental measurement and can be used to measure stigma in Chinese urinary incontinent women.
