The Clinical Significance of Central Venous Pressure Measurement after Cardiac Surgery

Objective\ To investigate the clinical significance of measuring central venous pressure in patients after cardiac surgery.\ Methods\ Twenty four patients in postoperative cardiac surgery were randomly chosen, and investigated under three fettles:(1) The patients were sent into intensive care unit on mechanical ventilation; (2) They were all conscious and on mechanical ventilation 8 hours after operation; (3) 24 hours after operation, the patients were conscious with normal breathing. The correlation analysis between central venous pressure and blood volume or cardiac index or other hemodynamics were performed after surgery.\ Results\ The coefficient relation between central venous pressure and cardiac index was -0.5131 immediately after operation, -0.6301 in 8 hours after operation, and -0.5611 24 hours after operation(P<0.01). There were no relativity between central venous pressure and blood volume under the different conditions after operation.\ Conclusion\ The data revealed a close correlation between central venous pressure and cardiac index. Central venous pressure that was measured early in the patients in postoperative cardiac surgery is likely to reflect mainly the changes of cardiac output.
