Abstract: | Objective To study the efficacy of rhBMP2/BCB in repairing segmental bony defects. Methods After successful application in clinical settings of the reconstituted bone xenograft(RBX), A new grafting material-a xenograft containing rhBMP2 (rhBMP2/BCB) was made by combining recombinant-human BMP2 (rhBMP2) and an antigen-free bovine cancellous bone (BCB). The new product was used in repairing a 1.5cm defect in the radius of the rabbit. Its defect-repairing capacity was assessed radiographically, biomechenically, by densitometry and histological studies. Results rhBMP2/BCB was capable of healing the defect in large part by 16 weeks, with a similar repair process and mechanism to that seen with RBX. Conclusion rhBMP2/BCB is believed to be a new preferred grafting material in dealing with segmental bony defects. |
