Abstract:AIM:To explore the effects of hypothermia, batroxobin, hypothermia combined with batroxobin on complete cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. METHODS:Complete cerebral ischemia models of Menggu gerbil rats were employed. The effects of hypothermia, batroxobin, hypothermia and batroxobin on superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) in gerbil hippocampus were observed under the condition of ischemia for 10 minutes and reperfusion for 20 and 60 minutes, respectively. RESULTS:Activity of SOD tended to decline with prolonged ischemia time, which decreased by 5.85% and 8.23% in the hypothermia group for 20 and 60 minutes of reperfusion, and 18.3% and 5.12% in batroxobin group for 20 and 60 minutes of reperfusion, respectively, compared with the control group. Both hypothermia and batroxobin can alleviate the reduction of SOD activity( P < 0.01) ;the combination of hypothermia and batroxobin was more effective than either used alone( P< 0.05) ;the content of MDA was increased with prolonged reperfusion time, this can reduce the production( P < 0.01) ;the combined application was much preferable. CONCLUSION:Both hypothermia and batroxobin have protective effects on brain, and combination of the two can enhance this effect.
