A comparative study on the ability of clinical decision-making among nursing undergraduates in different learning programs

Objective To explore the ability status of clinical decision - making among nursing undergraduates in the different learning programs. Methods A total of 415 nursing undergraduates, from four universities in Sichuan Province who were enrolled in 2008 were surveyed with a self- designed questionnaire about clinical decision - making ability. Results The total score of clinical decision - making ability was （287.37 ± 32.52 ）. The scores of nursing undergraduates in the 4 - year program and 5 - year program were （295.32 ±29.76 ） and （282.63 ±33.23 ） respectively. Both the total score and scores in each dimension of the 4 - year program students were higher than the 5 - year program students, and the differences were statistically significant （ P 〈 0.01 or P 〈 0.05 ）. Conclusion The level of clinical decision - making ability has statistically significant differences between the nursing students in the two learning programs.
